Gorman Asphalt Paving and Tar & Chip located in Manassas, VA. Affordable, high quality, high tech paving contractor for driveways, parking lots, roads, more.
First heavy rain caused asphalt to buckle and huge chunks just washed away. What is left has what look like volcano chimney pushing up from asphalt. Likewise tar and chip area now has trenches where washed away. Pretty much wasted money. For anyone who would like to see how the paving looked 60 days after completion, go to For video, go to:
An additional section of the asphalt has washed away in last night’s moderate rain and is circled in this picture: That 2×4 foot section of asphalt used to be farther up and square to the side of the road, but has dislodged and washed down. It is now just lying on top of another section of asphalt. When paving initially completed, the asphalt was a nice flat rectangle along the side of the road as you would expect. Just 60 days later, my neighbors are teasing me that it looks like a moonscape or Hawaiian Islands with volcanos. There’s a guarantee, right? So far, here are my attempts to get Mr. Gorman to honor the guarantee: Current status: Money down the drain. Still no refund or warranty repairs, despite Gorman’s promises. I will update immediately if that changes. 8÷1÷15: RESPONSETOGORMAN’S ANGRYCOMMENTSBELOW: 1. Completely false. The contract included the asphalt, it was separately billed, and work was not done as a «courtesy.» The contract includes a warranty for the asphalt. Now you saying that you are not competent to do asphalt? First I’ve heard of that. Your business website promotes your expertise as an «Asphalt Paving Contractor.» See, The asphalt damage is from the very first heavy rain, not tree roots, and all the damage occurred during the rain. It appeared that insufficient preparation or no preparation was done prior to the asphalt being laid, such that the rain was able to get underneath and push the asphalt up and away. Regardless, the video/pictures speak for themselves. 2. Totally nuts. I apologized that my wife was out-of-town with checkbook on the install date and I mailed a check the very next day when she returned. Gorman cashed the check in four days. I absolutely never mentioned being a «big time lawyer» or «see you in court.» Complete fabrication. When the job was complete, I was happy with the work. So why would I say such things? It makes no sense. It wasn’t until weeks later after the first rain that the hidden problems with the workmanship came to light. That’s the kind of thing they say on TV, not in real life. 3. Still have not seen the promised refund. Still waiting for sending crew back out to repair. And I’ll be updating this once a month and would be glad to report if Mr. Gorman does what he says. God is watching! 7÷2÷15: Per Gorman’s instructions, I contacted his foreman Nick, who said he would come«right over» to assess. Last I have heard. 6÷24÷15: Sent photos to Mr. Gorman pictures of the poor workmanship via certified mail. USPS confirms letter received by him.

Gorman Paving was prompt, professional and reasonably priced. Did a great tar and chip job on my 300 ft sloped driveway.

When re-surfacing our 1000 plus foot driveway, I received three bids before selecting Gorman Paving. Gorman was in the middle price wise, but I chose them because tar and chip was a mainstay of their business where the others were primarily doing asphalt work. Weeks after the job was finished we had a torrential rain causing much of the gravel on hilly areas to wash out. The fact that it didn’t properly adhere to the tar I now suspect was due to temperatures being borderline cold on the day that the work was performed. I phoned Mr Gorman who promptly came out came out, agreed that the job did not meet his standards, and offered to repave at no expense to me. This has now been accomplished and I am completely satisfied with the work. My general experience with contractors over the years is that, when you you ask for them to make corrections after they have been paid, they often avoid you and rarely come forward to provide the time and materials necessary to make good. Not so in my dealings with Gorman Paving. In fact, Mr. Gorman was proactive in trying to arrange for a crew to come out to re-pave. Things go wrong in all businesses, but it’s how you stand behind your commitments that count in the end, and Mr Gorman has my gratitude for how he came through on this project.
