J E Rice True Value

This place is AWESOME! I’m assuming it’s a family run business. Prices are low with a great selection, they always greet you when you walk in and ask if you need help. Like others have said, it’s a shame there aren’t more places like this. Last time I was there I just needed a small piece of clear plastic tubing since I was bleeding my brakes and the guy took me back to the stock room, let me see what size I wanted and cut it to size. For about 2 feet, I want to say it was a dollar and some change but I’m not sure. I just knew it was really cheap, but the customer service there is the same whether you’re buying a bolt or a grill.
It’s great to support local businesses like these. Hope they’re around for decades to come.

I tell you what, it is sad to see so few shops like this around these days. Prices are great, their staff know their stock, and also are quite helpful for coming up with solutions to problembs you may have.
When I came in I was greeted right away. After a short discussion I was guided to the right area. All in all this place is clean, well stocked.

There are few places any more that actually exceed all your expectations, but J. E. Rice does so on a continuous basis. I don’t even go to Home Depot or Lowe’s any more; I just drop in here. I have yet to ask for something they don’t have. Keys they make on their old-​style equipment actually work! Wonderful place, great staff, and little if any more expensive than big box stores. I’ve been happily shopping here since 1992 and will continue till they put me in an old folks home.

I really do like this place. There’s just nothing like a ‘real’ hardware store.
This place has a little bit of most everything you might need.
Today I had to find ½ inch stove head bolts… boom, done!
The staff is really helpful, you don’t have to far to find someone that can help you.
They recently started selling the Hi-​Tech auto keys that require transponder programming.
What you will pay close to $ 200 for at a dealership you can get here for $ 50 bucks.

I wish I’d discovered this store 10 years ago. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a salesclerk, who then helped me locate all the disparate items I was looking for. If there was a comparable item that sold for less, he let me know about it. I was in and out of there in 20 minutes with all my purchases. At Walmart or Lowe’s it would have been at least an hour. Very nice, friendly staff. I’m impressed!

Just the best.
No long isles of mismatched and hard to find hardware… no having to hunt down an orange or blue clad «associate».
They ask YOU what they can help you with.
You tell them, it’s in your hands in minutes and you’re on your way, unless you want to talk about the weather, they’ll do that too!
I’ve never had a time where they couldn’t help me with the odd stuff. From telescope making projects bits, to special bolts for a motorcycle, they had it or could get it.
If you’re in need of something, go there first and forget the hugely mismanaged, under staffed, and not so knowledgeable staff in the giant chain stores. Those places are time wasters and frustration makers.
You’ll be supporting local business as well. Power to the people!

I would give them six stars if I could. I have shopped both online with store pickup and in store and I always want to return there, I prefer to do store pick up compared to home delivery because I enjoy going there.
I always check JE Rice before I hit the big «care for profit» orange or blue boxes because of many reasons including the people they select as staff who are not just skilled but also caring. In my view that shows the careful care to select and keep the right people which obviously know how to cross-​train. This usually proves that the owners and their management prioritize us and people before profit.
Second is their variety, selection and quality of products which usually beats the big box stores who prioritize profit over customer service.
Because their square footage is not as spacious as others sometimes I end up having to go elsewhere when I need something immediately, otherwise I order items online that they might not have in stock at the store. You get free shipping to store, and their online store is better than the big box stores, try it.
Even if I have to pay a few pennies more, which usually means their product is better quality I still go to True Value because I want them to stay open to support their people and their value to quality business, so I hope you have a good experience there too.
I’m sure you will not be upset like when you go to the big box stores and push a button to get help and wait 10 minutes, then you go to the customer service desk and you wait another 10 minutes because the only plumbing expert they have is also the forklift driver, electrician, lumber expert that might also be taking lunch or not be working on Sunday, at True value you have more high end experts per square foot than the big box stores.

It’s a shame that there are not more hardware stores like this around anymore. The staff is always friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I love going to this place!

Great hardware store, they even repair window screens. A store that time forgot which is great but they still have any modern hardware that you will need. The staff is very helpful and able to make you feel right at home like calling you by name. I will keep going back and would highly recommend!!!

I discovered J.E. Rice when I moved to Manassas in 1978. They have always been so helpful, and generally have that small doodad that you can’t find anywhere else.
Most recently, I called them in desperation when I needed a $ 3 part for my
washer (that would cost $ 25 thru the manufacturer) and they had it in stock.
I’ve actually been in Home Depot looking for some small thing, and the
clerk refers me to J.E. Rice, which is where I should have looked to begin with!
Update 4÷15÷2013: Again, J.E. Rice saved the day — needed a small part, again,
and one quick call and trip, and I’m back in business! I swear I don’t know what
I’ll do if they ever leave us!

DIYers This is the store you need to visit. Very nice family owned Hardware Store, If you don’t know how to fix anything in your home, they will help you. I prefer to visit them before I go to Lowes or Home Depot too.

I go here before Home Depot all the time. 9 times ouot of 10 I get what I need or some thing better. I might pay a little more but I am in and out in a fraction of the time and I know if I have a question or problem I can get help.

Manassas is an evolving town. Years ago it was a small country town, but now the Washington area has grown so much that Manassas is almost a suburb rather than a small town. Plus there are so many immigrants. We call it «New Manassas» and «Old Manassas». When a Korean mother is driving a minivan full of kids to afternoon tutoring, that’s new Manassas. When a redneck in a pick-​up drives through old town yelling «Git-​rDone Git-​R-​Done» out the window, that’s Old Manassas. Both old and new make the place the wonderful, interesting town it is today. JE Rice True Value Hardware is Old Manassas.
It’s a small town hardware store. It’s small, but they’ve got everything Harry Homeowner could ever need packed in there. The battery on my drill has seen better days, and it’s so old that they don’t even make replacement batteries anymore so it was Saturday night, and I was almost finished installing the over-​the-​range microwave. I just needed a new drill to make the hole for the chord. I went in there, and there was a gentleman there who gave me exactly what I needed. He didn’t try and push on me something expensive that I didn’t really need. I got an inexpensive 12 volt drill.
I love places like this. You can just roam the isles and look at all the interesting stuff they have.
I had a bad experience at Home Depot and vowed never to got back. I’m glad this place is here and so convenient. Goodbye HD. Hello JE.

I love this place!: I have been shopping at JE Rice for more than 20 years. This business is a step back into yester-​year with personal and friendly customer service and unique hard to find items that other places just no longer carry. Every time I visit JE Rice I receive a warm greeting and someone is always anxious to help me find each item on my list. Do not let the size of this place fool you. They have just about everything and can actually tell you how to use it.
Skip the big warehouse box stores and treat yourself to good service. I love this place and will continue to shop here for many years to come!

I LOVE THIS HARDWARE STORE!
They are the only ones around that carry coal, which I need for my stove to heat my house. They are also the only store to ever have, or have the ability to order anything I might need as I do my home remodelling. I think the service in the store is really great. I love the mom and pop feel. My father used to come here often when I was a kid and I find myself coming here whenever I’m in a pickle, its not close to my house, but they always have the answer if I need advice and worth the drive for parts.

This place has been in Manassas ever since I can remember! It’s a VERY ‘mom pop’ type shop. The people working there are extremely helpful. The store is cramped because it’s not that big of a hardware store (compared to Lowes/​Home Depot), but the service is great. My dad always sends me here to pick up small nuts/​bolts/​odd parts when we are working on fixing something.

Love this place! The people are always so friendly and helpful. Its nice to be able to walk into a store like J.E. Rice and feel welcome.
They do have hidden little treasures there that people don’t even think about. Bought a scratch and dent dishwasher there last night for a almost $ 100.00 cheaper than Home Depot! My whole visit was 15 minutes and that included checking out!

My landlord arranged for a new refrigerator to be delivered to my house. They called me and asked what day and time would be good, so I chose a day and time. That day, I was running late, so I called the store and asked if we could push my delivery time back. They did so with no problem, and even called again to make sure I was home. Quite different from the 4– or 6– (or 11 hour, VERIZON) window given by some delivery «services.»
The people who delivered my fridge were polite, courteous, and professional. They rock.

J.E. Rice True Value is a throw back hardware store — from hardware stores of a bygone era.
I needed to find some charcoal filters for my GE Spacemaker 2.0 microwave. I couldn’t get them at Lowe’s or Home Depot — so I checked GE’s web site and found that J.E. Rice was the closest GE authorized parts facility.
I called them earlier in the week — they did not have the filters in stock — but they advised they could order them and have them in a day. The price was better than what I could get direct from GE. I had to prepay for the filters — so I paid via credit card. J.E. Rice called me yesterday to advise that the filters had arrived — I picked them up today. No fuss — no muss. I like supporting local businesses!
