Skate N Fun Zone

I came here when I was in middle school!!! A long long time ago! I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and well kept it was.
We arrived right at opening at 11 on a Saturday for open skate. For my daughters entrance, tokens, and skate rental it was $ 19. I think it was totally worth it. There is so much to do and we were there for hours before getting bored.
Not only is there skating, but there is laser tag, a large indoor play ground, and tons of arcade games. The eating area was large also with a good assortment of snacks and food.
All of the employees were super nice and very helpful.
We will be back!

We decided to come back for the first time since my daughter broke her arm… not during a trip here.
As usual, the place has a moderate amount if skaters ranging from kids using roller aides (plastic contraptions with wheels the kids can hold onto and keep them upright when they skate) to professionals whizzing around the rink.
They have a food court area with a large variety of snacks (hotdogs, pizza, donuts, and pretzels to name a few), but the prices are a bit outrageous. They also have a tiny play area for kids 5 and under and short games of laser tag (also a bit over priced).
There are a few arcade games and an area to redeem tickets won from the game.
There are plenty of lockers that are available for I think 50¢, to place shoes, coats or personal items while you skate.
Overall, perfect indoor spot for kids to hang while getting a bit of exercise!

Five stars for a skating rink. Perfect for kids! Roller skate or inline skates. Looks like there are plenty of walkers for new skaters. We did not eat or drink at the rink. Music is for elementary aged kids. Lots of Bieber! I actually posted this in my Facebook post and they played another and dedicated it to me. Super funny!

Skate N Fun is a fabulous fun filled indoor roller and in line skating facility with a wonderful and dedicated staff, terrific visuals with up to date music, and party rooms for a great bash. We have been coming here for around 9 years and it is the best indoor roller skating facility we have been to which includes other states we have visited and lived. We feel very fortunate that this facility is in our community of Prince William County. As an aside, they are very welcoming to all; Such as those with special needs and will accommodate as necessary. I think you will agree this place is a great and fun filled roller skating rink! Remember to look for and take a quick right past the Merchant Tire as the building is off Sudley Road.

Very nice and simple roller rink. A few problems though. They show music videos which are inappropriate for kids. And Their staff are extremely careful with their rules to a ridiculous level. We brought a large group of about 80 people and 2 of our head staff me included walked on the ring with our shoes and they called us over saying that this must stop and we are not listening to the rules and they remember us from a year ago and we didn’t listen to the rules either.
So I asked them how many of us did you see not listening to the rules?!
2 of us!
And one of the managers told me that she remembered that I walked on the ring last year as well. Once.
2 more things happened which went to show that the dont handle big groups well.
But other then that the place is nice and cheap and they tried to entertain my group on the ring so three stars for them.

I think charging people $ 11 for an entrance fee is completely outrageous!!!
Then nickeling and diming them throughout the whole experience.

I was scouting for venues for 2 parties and one my clients wanted me to check out this place. I went last month and this month, because we would have rented out the whole place. The customer service manager was so rude and her employees, always on their phones, not paying any attention to their patrons. When complaints happened, the manager didn’t really care nor did the attendees. This place could be better and the owners obviously don’t see anything wrong with this place or their employees.
Advice to owner: No phones on the floors, period ! proper attire, proper training for all staff, bring in a new food service standards, bring a new team of management (with background of being a customer service manager or hospitality management student), then they can answer questions about rink, pricing to rent out and questions about events that can’t be answered by the current manager, the brightest.
Expensive for the casual skater, but I doubt things will ever change so we won’t be hosting events or fundraisers there, it’s a shame.

Every time we go, we have a blast… music is great and the events the have throughout the evening (limbo, races, the wobble, etc.) make for a great time.

Kids wanted to go skating, so I found Skate n Fun Zone… and much to my delight a link for kids 12 and under to skate free! I signed them up, and off we went today. We brought our own skates and the kids had a blast! I thought the staff was very friendly, and the rink was in decent condition. My younger kids had fun switching between playing on the equipment and skating. We went on a Monday late afternoon — wasn’t too crowded and the music was appropriate for the ages that were there. We will definitely be going back!

My main experience of Skate n Fun Zone has been on the Sunday night «Adult Skate» nights and have always had a great time. The rink is in great shape. The sound system is really good and the music is a good mix. This place attracts a lot of really great skaters that seem to mix pretty well with those of us that have a hard time keeping our wheels down. The staff is friendly and helpful but sometimes there’s not enough of them.

Bathrooms are gross and the rap and sexually explicit music are atrocious for a «family» establishment. 2 stars for the presence of a rink and a friendly skate rental associate.

We had my son’s 7^th birthday party here, and it was a lot of fun. We bought the pirate package and had 3 hours of time in the facility, with unlimited skating, a laser tag session, tokens for the games, and use of the play area (which was a big hit with my 4 y/​o). The package includes 45 mins. in the party room, where pizza and cake are served by a host/​hostess. Ours was very organized and polite and took care of everything… even candles for the cake. All I had to bring was the cake and the birthday boy. After the party room, we had more skating time and our laser tag session. Laser tag was a blast and even us moms got in on the fun. The kids loved it and I did, too. The games are all token run and a bit expensive. You get tickets that you can exchange for cheap junk, which I could do without. But, the kids enjoyed it. All the staff were very polite, helpful, and friendly. The manager stopped by our party room to make sure we were happy. The whole package ended up costing us around $ 280. I did buy an extra bag of tokens because the kids really wanted to keep playing. Overall, a great party venue and a lot of bang for your buck.

only complaint is, we booked a private bday party (not cheap), and were still nickel & dimed to death. had to pay extra per kid for the skating ‘walkers’ (for beginners), really?! !
also they didnt allow us to enter until the exact minute, we got there 15 min early to set up and no can do, had to wait in the lobby outside entry booth– shesh.
if you give your customers alittle extra (really with no cost to you), you get more appreciation, referrals and return business!

I don’t see what all the complaining is about. I had some nostalgic fun here recently on a Friday night. The rink was in great condition, it was pretty packed just like the old days, a mix of ages but mostly teenagers and kids having a blast, and an older teenager manning the DJ booth. They even cleared the rink for some roller skating games, such as by-​age-​group races, but no hokey-​pokey. I was actually expecting it to be far more run down, but it wasn’t. For its age, it has been kept up pretty well, and probably isn’t too far off the condition of some worn-​in skating rinks back in the late 80s. And just like back then, there will always be a risk of falling or colliding. One of my first memories at age 7 is colliding into a speedskating teenager at a rolling rink, and the same speedskating teenagers zip and weave around Skate N Fun Zone’s roller rink today. It would have been nice if some more old-​school classics were played, but only Beastie Boys was played once while I was there.
Only quad skates are for rent, but it seemed like they did not enforce or look at skates if you had your own. I know of skating rinks in other cities/​states that require skates that have obviously not been used outdoors.
Ordering food and drink was a mess, though, because of how many people were there. Tip: order soon after arriving, then get your skates. It takes a long time because the 2 gals behind the counter are «in the weeds». When picking up your food (you get a buzzer), show up to the left of the register (away from the ordering line) and try to flag down one of them. Then again, I was on a busy Friday night, so I don’t know how other non-​weekend nights are like.
They assemble the pizzas, in pepperoni or cheese, from parbaked crusts — but they put the sauce and toppings on themselves before baking them. The result is pizza that is nostalgically good — it had the sharp flavors of grade-​school pizza that I have craved for decades, but with better texture, real cheese, and a doughier crust. I wonder if they’ll let me come for takeout pizza without paying admission… ;)
All in all, if you want a much better roller rink, you’re going to have to build a time machine.

As for skating — yeah, lots of fun. The condition of the place bottomed out a number of years ago. A lot more interesting place to visit now. Having said that, some areas inside sometimes reminds me of a movie theater floor. Goes with the territory, I suppose. And I wish the skating floor was maintained a little better. Like other commenters, I’m not too thrilled about the prices in this still-​struggling economy.
As for hosting a birthday party — well, how awkward was that. To start, where to put the gifts and winter coats for our guests as they arrived? They all go in this huge plastic bin. Where to put the bin? Well, you’re left to lug it to some out-​of-​the-​way place on the floor near the café and party rooms. But you can’t put it in your party room (yet). Later, after some skating, the Glow party in the party room got underway about 15 – 20 minutes late. Where to put our guests’ skates during the party? Well, just leave them all on the floor in the party room. And we’re left to lug our overflowing plastic bin of gifts and coats into the party room. The black curtain partially drawn between our room and the next room was unattractive — seems too small to do its job.
So then we’re done in the party room, time for laser tag. But now where to put those skates that are all over the party room floor? They can’t stay there. So the employees moved them to the floor area just outside the party room. Oh, and time to pack up that plastic bin — after having to dig out the gifts from under the coats — and lug it back out of the room too.

We got our little survey card which asked, for example, whether or not the manager came to visit. We were confused: did the manager visit? Yes, it was the person who briefly dropped by to take a picture of the party. Well I guess that’s a «yes» on the survey card, then.
A ton of these annoyances could easily be eliminated by having one tall/​large ROLLING cart that has shelves for skates plus bins for coats and gifts.
Meanwhile, we may skate there again. But as things stand, hosting a party is out of the question.

This place is a ball of fun for kids and kids at heart. Skate N Zone includes arcade games and laser tag in addition to a wide area for skating. It is practically free fun for skating. Wednesday night you can roller skate for $ 1.99 (not including skate rental).
All skate levels are in the rink and everyone is respectful. The venue is pretty old, but you can tell it has been maintained.
They have an after school program for kids that I would have loved to be a part of if I grew up in Manassas.
Wanna ball on a budget while having fun? You won’t be disappointed with Skate N Zone.

My review first, followed by reviews written by my kids:
Me: Dirty and run by some really trashy people. Employees are concerned with making out with each other, and (with one exception) nobody has any clue about customer service. The exception was the girl working at the skate rental window. She was sweet and helped us with fitting all the kids with skates. She had a happy attitude and cared about her job. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and the snack bar is just nasty! The DJ was good and played fun music and the skating was fun.
Review by my 9 year old daughter: We had so much fun skating here! I got roller blades but they had regular skates too. They played a bunch of songs I know from the radio. It was very very hot because the air conditioner was broken. Every time I fell, which was many times, the skate guard came to make sure I was ok. I can’t wait to go back.
Review by my 8 year old daughter: Skating was fun. I used a skate trainer which is a bar you hold onto while you learn to skate. After a few times with that, I could go by myself. I used regular skates with two wheels in front and two wheels in back but they also have rollerblades. I liked it when the lights went down and they used the rainbow lights like a party! The air conditioner wasn’t working so it was really hot. Other than that it was so so fun.

Really awful. Took my six year old and get in after paying 21 bucks for admission and skate rental. Had to pay another 4 for him play on a pitiful playzone that makes Chick Fila’s playground look worth at least 10 bucks.
Get in there and turns out he could barely stand let alone glide on the skates. I find out that the plastic tube thing with wheels to hold onto will run me another 5 bucks and they won’t trust me with the plastic thing until I remove my skates, remove my childs skates, and put on my shoes and retrieve my driver’s license from the car. I left all my «stuff» but cash in the car so now just getting started is taking me more than 30 minutes.
So I do all this… and get the trainer thing and we are doing much better. We leave it unattended for literally 30 seconds and as I am looking, about 5 kids from some Fairfax County SACC program start to try to take it. I explain that you have to pay money and the kid asks me for some. Again I leave it by side of rink to try to practice with son without it. Every 30 seconds someone is trying to take it. Ridiculous policy with driver’s license and people not aware you have to rent it. Plus they all look alike, about 3 moms accused me of taking their rental thing. Finally I had it with watching the trainer thing like a hawk since I did want the driver’s license back and just returned the trainer thing. Really? A driver’s license and five bucks for something I could make for 5 bucks. Have them available for free for your younger patrons!
Anyway, the music is blasted to the point I see a number of kids holding their ears. I think kids 8 and up looked like they enjoyed but it was a no go for my family. I did talk to the manager and he refunded me the 5 dollars and gave me 2 free passes to come back and «enjoy» but I ended up giving them to a lady heading in. Staff was very engaged and polite but clearly had to follow the rules.
I realize that I probably sound like a cranky old lady but seriously save yourself some hassle an head somewhere else with the kiddos until they can skate by themselves comfortably.

Fun and Cheap
