The Salvation Army

This is the biggest Salvation Army with many options in clothing, furniture, and many other departments for anyone’s needs. It’s very well organized, everything is where it’s supposed to be and even color coded! My experience with the store was great and I’ll definitely be coming back for more shopping and donating as well.

One of the biggest thrift stores in the area. This location is really well organized and you can usually find things to meet your needs. I’ve been coming in for years and finding cool and trendy things to wear and refurbish as well. If there are any avid thrifters in the Northern Virginia area this is the place to come.

This review is about my experience today at the drop off donation area. You have cars wrapped around the drive area. There are two lanes but one is closed and for real the car lanes can accommodate 4 cars at once. So I pull in behind the other car and start unloading my car. As I’m sitting stuff on the ground trying to speed things along… there’s a line…(Mind you it’s all neatly boxed or bagged up so the actual stuff isn’t touching the ground.) … here comes one dude «ma’am don’t sit the stuff on the ground, someone will be right with you.» I’m like OK and I’ll just pick it up when you get to me… you’re just going to hurl it into a bin or the back of that truck anyway. I kept telling myself that I was going to stop donating to SA and GW and only give to private thrift stores (ahem, Community Thrift). I’m going to keep my word.
Also on a separate encounter they wouldn’t take my tube tv… understandbly…they have model year conditions to uphold. But it wasn’t terribly old and still worked with a built in vcr. The guy recommended taking it to Bestbuy to recycle. Called them up and they wanted freaking $ 25.00 to store it in their back warehouse until they could process it. FUCK THAT! I took a chance and rolled by the county landfill for the first time and they have electronics recycling, get this… FOR FREE!!! Go on Saturdays before 5pm. I think they take recycling on Wednesdays too. check their website and there’s a sign posted.

Very rude staff. From the girls who were shopping for themselves instead of putting up clothing, to the woman who wouldn’t open a register because according to her I «didn’t want any help «. The girl that rang up my small purchase even made a rude comment about what a «big spender» I am. Won’t be coming here ever again.

The manager at this place is incredibly rude. I went on 25% off day which is the only time I go. I stood in line for 15 min. to purchase a damaged shelf. The back kept falling off and the corner was rotted so it was going to need to be replaced. The price for the shelf was $ 18! Priced WAY too high as I could have purchased a brand new shelf for like $ 25 and this shelf needed repair! I kindly asked the lady at the register if I could have the shelf for $ 14. She said only the manager could make that decision. She called a man over and I attempted to explain my concern. He interrupted me as I was speaking and instead of standing talking to me face to face, he started walking away and mumbled in a rude tone, «no you’re already getting a discount.» Um, what? I could barely hear him and then he was gone. I am shocked that this guy is the manager! He could have kindly said that to my face. So unprofessional and disrespectful. Funny because in addition to having donated several hundred dollars worth of items to this store, I’ve made actual monitary donations! I wonder if he would have given me my $ 4 off if he had known that?! Sadly, this guy has left a bad taste in my mouth. I will choose to donate my items and give my money elsewhere in the future.

Dressing rooms close at 8pm. There’s no sign saying so though.
The shoes are way over priced. They are old and very used.
Cheaper then retail stores but still high and most of the clothing is outdated and quite worn.

This place is a double edged sword, in my opinion. This Salvation Army is the largest is the country, which is awesome. One could almost get lost looking at things for hours. My only qualm is that the selection wanes and the majority of the prices seem to be too high. I come to look at clothes more often than not, and even the most outdated of styles can sometimes be marked ridiculously. I will admit that I have found a few reasonably priced gems in the form of objects such as vintage high-​waisted Calvin Klein shorts and ironic t-​shirts, but most days I leave with a few articles of scrap clothing for crafts or a nicely priced picture frame or two, if anything. I once saw an old banjo priced for over $ 500. From what I could tell it wasn’t aged enough to warrant such a price, nor was it from a well-​known and reliable brand. In fact, I bought a brand new Fender banjo a few months later for less. On the other hand, one Wednesday that I visited (Wednesday’s are 25% off days) I snagged a pair of vintage (quad) roller skates with their original skate case for $ 20.
I figure that like any other thrift location, digging and hoping and waiting and vigilance are the main affecters of the experience — besides one’s taste in random, used things and how much you’re willing to pay for them. In this case, I’m not willing to pay most of their prices, but it doesn’t hurt to look just in case something unique and in my price range is floating around.

Very disappointed with the Salvation Army pick up service. Driver refused a 3 piece sectional (less than 5 years old) that was in good condition. We were not just trying to get rid of ‘junk’ and this was a perfectly usable piece of furniture (that could be re-​sold). Instead of selling it ourselves we decided charity would be a better place for it. Just a shame.

I always go here to drop off my donations. The people are friendly and give you a tax receipt for your items. If you go in their store you will find some decent things for cheap.

Best thrift store (for clothes, books and furniture) in the NOVA area. Huge, well organized, and better quality items than most thrift stores. Their furniture selection alone is bigger than most entire thrift stores. I never leave here without finding bags and bags full of name-​brand and other like-​new baby, men’s and women’s clothes…

I have been going here for years to donate books, CDs, and clothing. We go around the end of the year and the lines are usually long and we are used to that, but this year we were treated very rudely by the people processing donations. We waited in line for almost an hour to make our donation and didn’t feel we deserved such rude, condescending attitude.
I’ll probably go somewhere else next year, I hope for the good of the organization that the older yelling gentleman has found other activities by then.

No toys. Not worth my time. I hear they auction the toys off.
If I am wrong, a manager can respond to this post with an update on where the toys go.

This place is huge! There are so many things to look at in here!
One of two complaints are the prices. The VHS tapes are overpriced at $ 1 per, whereas goodwill they are 3 for $ 1. Some other things here and there are overpriced as well.
The second one is an incident with the security guard. My fiancé was observing the station wagon up in the front of the store and got a little too close for the security guard, so he came over and yelled «don’t touch it, it’s common sense» to is. Extremely embarrassing and unnecessary.
The only reason this review is getting three stars is because I found a lot of nice books for a decent price, thank you. This store’s book pricing is more consistent than goodwill’s.

I thought Salvation Army was a charity organization. They are there to help the people in need,
They came to the house and they looked at our things and said:
— they don’t take kids stuff but they wanted to take A battery operated blue corvette that my grandson used handful of times. I told them that is not going.
— a nearly new baby walker, still in its box was turned down because «they don’t know what condition it’s in».
They said they couldn’t take our type if bunk bed and your table.
They wouldn’t even take a brand new bed frame.
These guys were condescending and I WILL NEVER consider donating anything to them!

Generally, I would not describe anywhere in Manassas as «hopping,» but I guess I will eat my words because my gosh was this place hoppin’ last Saturday afternoon.
The drop-​off line was wrapped around the building, perhaps 10 cars deep. Almost every piece of furniture on the interior, had a SOLD tag showing some early bird had already gotten that worm.
It is rare to see a thrift shop so orderly, but all the clothing as well as the housewares were sorted by type and color.
Maybe I should blame Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for giving away all of my secrets…

I love going into this store and mulling around. You never know what you’re gonna find. We give away massive amounts of clothing to the Salvation Army, and it’s nice stuff, so I’m not surprised to find nice stuff when I’m in this store browsing. Sure, there’s not so nice stuff too, but like another reviewer said, this is a thrift store.
I’ve found two of my best dress shirts here for $ 7 each — a Nordstrom white dress shirt and a Jos. A Bank white dress shirt. Both are high quality and my favorites and have lasted me over a year without fail. It’s also great for my kids, who grow out of stuff in six months at a time. It’s a treasure trove — you never know, but it’s fun finding out.

I’ve actually never been to Salvation Army until now and let me first say that this place is HUGE! It’s actually pretty well-​organized for a thrift store, too. If I could some up this location, I would say that this is the place to go for housewares, furniture, and some serious winter coats. I wouldn’t really go for the clothes, especially if you wear a size small; however, it’s nice that the clothing is organized by color.
There is one exception in terms of clothing here – there is a massive, unbelievably great selection of coats for cheap here, both for men and women. The coats are not outdated at all, but definitely not the super tailored look either, but what they are is in like new condition, thick, and great quality. They have loads of long coats, especially in size large, with a decent selection in medium too. The same seems to be true of the clothing section as well. If you wear a small, stay at home if you’re looking for clothing. A nice, unexpected surprise here is that the purse selection is actually good as well. For the young’ns, lots of nice prom dresses too ;).
On to the real goods of this store. The furniture is nice, stylish, contemporary, and much of it is like new. It may not be dirt cheap, but it is half or less of retail and, like I said, it’s like new. Lots and lots of sofas, not too many coffee tables and shelves. There were also lots of other large furniture items as well.
The housewares section here is also a serious gem. There are loads upon loads of like new contemporary plate sets. Very stylish and great quality – lots of the brands that you know and love. This is a great place for anything from chafing dishes to glassware to plate sets, and even some of the older, higher quality cookware that you don’t find anymore. Also, there is a bucket of super cool cooking utensils.
Downside, book selection is the pits overall, and there are almost no cookbooks.
By the way, this thrift store is cleaner and does not smell.

This is such a great location!!!
There’s a large variety of clothes, furniture, mattresses, other housewares, shoes galore…
Not only are the clothes organized by type, but they are also organized by color and there’s a good showing of both modern and older-​stylings.
Will definitely be back for a good comb-​through!

Just stay away from the vinyl LP’s!

The Salvation Army recently opened a new location in Manassas — it’s both a fairly large store where you can shop for items that have been donated — and drop off items for donation. The place is huge!
I dropped off a bag of clothing yesterday — dropping stuff off here is easier than the Goodwill center in Manassas. Salvation Army has a sort of Drive-​Thru — you pull up — get your stuff out and someone greets you and writes you a receipt.
I’ll be taking all of my future donations here!
