I WAS going to get a pretzel from auntie Anne’s, since I loved them at Salem nhs mall. I was on my break and made a bee line to the store, the guy wasn’t wearing gloves and he itched his nose while making dough! Isn’t that against health code?! Instead, I went to pita express. I will not go there!

Pretzels from Auntie Anne’s are one of my family’s favorite mall snacks. We love the cinnamon sugar pretzel bites. They are really messy, but so buttery and sugary and just plain yummy. They make the pretzels fresh all day long, and it is fun to watch the employees twirling the dough in the air and then setting it down with the perfect knot somehow. The pretzels come out nice and soft with a satisfying chewiness. They have a great location right on the corner of the food court, and they definitely seem to keep busy with customers. They offer quite the variety, from pepperoni to jalapeño topped pretzels, and they also have lots of dipping sauces that range from savory to sweet. They also offer a customer loyalty punch card last I checked. What a great pick-me-up for people like me that aren’t exactly in love with shopping but find themselves stuck at the mall anyway sometimes!

It’s a pretzel stand in the mall, so expectations are already low to begin with. But then again I’m a pretzel junkie. Street pretzels in Boston, Chicago, NYC… Ahhh! New York street pretzels!!! Huh? What? Oh right… Auntie Anne’s. Yeah so so at best. Pretzels are not supposed to be buttery to the point of you’re not sure if they are baked or fried. They are too thin and have a limp structure. However, if you are trapped in the hinterlands, away from urban pretzel greatness, this is your only real option.
