Surfari Stand Up Paddle & Surf is New England’s stand up paddle head quarters. Located in beautiful Manchester by-​the-​Sea on Boston’s North Shore, Surfari is centrally located to all corners of New England. We offer stand up paddle sales, lessons, rentals, tours, demos, SUP fitness, SUP Yoga and most importantly… experience. We are in the water every day SUP surfing, paddling and teaching. Let us share our experience with you to help you make the most informed decision in purchasing stand up paddle boards, paddles and accessories.

Surfari SUP & Surf is on the water. We can drop paddle boards out of our store windows into the water of Manchester’s protected inner-​harbor for SUP lessons, rentals, tours and demos. Surfari is about a forty five minute drive from Boston by car and a short walk from the MBTA commuter rail stop in Manchester. It’s the same train you take to get to Singing Beach. History

Established in 2006.

Nantucket Surfari began it’s life on Nantucket Island in 2006 as a seasonal surf school and camp. In 2007 we expanded to include stand up paddle lessons and tours as Christian embraced SUP. In April of 2011 we opened our first retail location Surfari Stand Up Paddle & Surf in Manchester by-​the-​Sea on Boston’s North Shore. In June of 2015 we opened our second store on Main St in Gloucester, MA.

Surfari is open year round.

Business Owner

Christian was born and bred in Manchester by-​the-​Sea, MA and began surfing 28 years ago on the North Shore of Boston. Embracing the surfing lifestyle, as soon as he got his license he was charging all over New England with his buddies on «sUrfari» to find waves. Christian attended Rutgers University in New Jersey and while there was known to skip a class or two to make the 45 minute drive down the Jersey Shore for some waves. Over the years the sUrfari bug has taken Christian to surf in California, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, St. Bart’s, the British Virgin Islands and the East Coast from Maine to Florida. He loves the Island lifestyle and has spent seventeen years of his life living between Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Tortola and Hawaii.

Quality board shop staffed by a bunch of kids who seem to be pretty composed and know what they’re doing. I’ve been here a couple times now, once for a lesson, and again for a solo paddle. After trying a couple of other board shops, I like this one because of its awesome location — the secluded Manchester harbor is about the best place to paddle when you’re a weak-​kneed newbie — and because the staff are so friendly and accommodating. Applying years of kayaking skills to paddleboarding takes time, and I’ve found if there is any breeze at all, I just kneel or sit until I get to a spot where I can stand up and paddle back with the wind. It’s a great way to be on the water on a really hot day, because you can roll in any time you want for a quick dip in the cool ocean. Love that.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE, They are awful, unprofessional and shady. My husband and I signed up for a semi private lesson, and unfortunately our car broke down and we could not make it. They charged my card two days before the lesson, when they previously told me they would charge it upon arrival and I never received any receipt for the charge! Then when we asked to reschedule, they refused, were rude, and even hung up on me… still keeping our money. I can’t believe how horrible the customer service was, and how rude the staff was. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. There are plenty of other surf shops that offer the same service, that do not act in such a shady, unprofessional manner. stay clear.

My 8 year old daughter took an hour private surfing lesson with Christian. It was worth every penny! He was clear, patient and professional. He was very kid friendly! He not only went over technique but also how to be safe on the board. I was mad at myself for not doing it with her! It was a wonderful way to spend our day. Thank you so much!!!

We loved our experience at Surfari Stand Up Paddle & Surf! Our instructor took us out on a private SUP lesson and we couldn’t have been more excited! We got great instruction before we went into the water and then once we went in we felt very supported. Our instructor would watch each of us carefully giving us tips that would optimize our experience. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in SUP or surf.

My very first time standing on the water on a paddle board, it was a perfect experience. A friend and I decided to take a public lesson on a Saturday afternoon. The location is easy to get to, parking available right on site. You can literally walk from your car to the dock. The store had everything you might want to purchase if necessary, the staff were friendly and Christian was a great instructor. I have already recommended that my friends have a lesson here and I’ll be coming back for the Demo Daze and Pau Hana!

We had a great paddle boarding lesson with Christian last week. He was very patient with us and provided continuous useful feedback throughout our hour lesson. We started off shaky but near the end got better and realized just how much fun this sport can be. I would highly recommend starting at Surfari as the lesson was great and the area they use behind the store to teach is a nice and calm inner harbor. We will be back!
