Trey Yuen Cuisine of China is a restaurant specializing in Chinese cuisine. The restaurant was designed by both American and Chinese architects to immolate Chinese palaces. The restaurant features imported rosewood ceilings, carved wall panels, antique furnishing, statues and artwork as well as inlaid mother of pearl dining chairs. In addition, gardens, waterfalls, pagodas and koi ponds surround the restaurant. Its menu selections include hot and sour soup, spiced chicken wings, green pepper steak, vegetable spring rolls, curry lamb, alligator, crawfish, mu sui pork, flounder and duck. Why am I just now finding out about this place? I don’t care for Chinese food in New Orleans. It just doesn’t hit home for me. Then came this place.
The food is not in a puddle of grease. Some people like that about Chinese food, I get it, but I don’t.
I don’t have to worry about mystery meat gray chicken. An order of general Tso’s chicken came out with large chunks of all white meat chicken that was so lightly breaded.
The place is pretty. Take a walk around the ponds out front before you go in.
I’m addicted and oh so sad its not closer to home.

I’ve heard about this place for many years but never went, what a fool I was. Steak Kew if the best I’ve had. Seafood Eggplant was equally wonderful. The surprise was the bar. The cocktails were strong and very tasty. I’ll be back every time I’m in the area. Brandon was our waiter and I’ll ask for him every time too. He was knowledgeable and attentive, can’t ask for more.

Each time myself, my family, or my friends have eaten here the food has not been good. I thought the fried rice tasted (by the same smell) like dog food. The service was great, but the food was lacking. I usually
never say that about a place but the food was very disappointing.

I have had consistently good food the few times I have been here. This time my fiancé and I stopped in after a parade, and we ordered the the dinner for two. We got hot and sour soup, Ming steak, combination rice and egg rolls. The steak was so tender and cooked to what looked like a medium on the inside– delicious. The rice was yummy. The egg rolls and the soup were standard– not bad but not great. The service was prompt and efficient. We will certainly be back!

I enjoy the food here quite a bit. They definitely have the best steak dishes out of any Chinese restaurant. Think big chunks of tender steak, cooked to a nice medium and not the think strips of beef you’re used to. I’ve had the Ming steak and the house steak, both of which were really good. The dinner for two is also a pretty good deal and come with a lot of options to choose from for the entrees unlike some other Chinese restaurants that give very little choice in that type of offering.

We’ve always only have gone to the Hammond location (we live in Baton Rouge) but we were in Mandeville and decided to drop by and we were not at all disappointed! Delicious food, great and kind service, and just a great all around experience! Much better Chinese than what we find in Baton Rouge!

This was some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. The restaurant was beautiful on the outside, and the inside was just as gorgeous. They gave plenty of food for a reasonable price. The steak special was delicious. Can’t wait to go back to try more.

About a year ago at French Quarter festival I stumbled across a Chinese restaurant food booth. Normally I’m not all Gung-​Ho about Chinese food but that afternoon in Jackson Square I was one of many starving festival attendees searching for good eats so I gave in and tried my first crawfish and lobster sauce dish and it was delicious. It would be a full year before I would have another serving because I don’t visit Mandeville or Hammond very often. It was difficult to reach the restaurant because of heavy construction but once there I was greeted with a beautiful pond and courtyard. The restaurant itself boasts an endearing and courteous wait staff, bartender, and hostess. The food was what I expected. Aside from the crawfish with lobster sauce, which I had a craving for, everything was just your basic Chinese food.

They are expensive and honestly the food is just ok. The décor is awesome but does not make up for the price. Also some ingredients they use are not fresh. For example the dumplings come from outside and are reheated.

I came down to Louisiana from LA and I have to say that Trey Yuen is nothing like any Chinese restaurant that I’ve ever been to. I had come to try this place out with the recommendation from a Louisianian and I’m so glad that I did.
In terms of setting, the restaurant is pretty impressive. Once you park your car, you find yourself walking into «Chinese history». You pass a miniature waterfall and a few koi ponds (with huge-​o koi) before you enter the restaurant’s lion guarded doorway. The restaurant’s interior was even most impressive. There are a few Asian art museums in soCal that haven’t impressed me as much as this restaurant had.
As for food, I was able to try a little bit of everything because I had gone with almost a dozen people for dinner. Not only did the restaurant have the common Chinese dishes, but I probably enjoyed their take of Chinese-​Cajun fusion dishes the most. It was really refreshing to have tried something that felt like a specialty to the south rather than just Chinese food during my visit. Shrimp and crawfish on a cloud and their étouffée are my recommendations. And the portions were really good for the price. I’m not too sure if its a southern thing or if was just this restaurant in particular though.

After hearing raves from friends for years, we finally made it to Trey Yuen for supper tonight.
Nice private parking, very nice grounds & building. Good wait staff.
We had Szechuan Beef & Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, with the «dinner for two», including some extras like egg-​flower soup & fried egg rolls.
The foods were typical Chinese-​Restaurant fare, but of very good quality & taste. Reasonable prices. Nothing bad, no surprises.

Beautiful dining room. Relatively high prices. Really like the steak kew. Most everything else we’ve tried here in the past 5 – 6 years has been mediocre. Back in the day, the food here was excellent, but the kitchen has lost its magic along the way.

Used to love dining here. Loved seeing the Wongs present. It has changed a bit. They have a nice walk way area to relax after your meal. Food is average. $$. Seems like there is too much mess going on. Just stuff laying all over the place, papers, junk catalogs, stuff just stacked up, boxes. Stuff just crammed in areas. The entrance area is just not very welcoming in presentation. Just isnt as lovely as it used to be. I say this because I have dined here since the 80’s. Have lunch specials m-​f for those who want a cheaper alternative to night dining.

Consistently wonderful service and food (and quite a selection of food, as well.) The grounds and interior are very lovely. You get a LOT of food for the price (one entrée can last me 3 – 4 meals,) and it comes quickly – even when special ordered!
We’ve been regular customers since we discovered this place, we brought our wedding party here, and we still and always enjoy it. Keep up the great work!

A long long time ago, in a galaxy called Mandeville, there was a really good Chinese restaurant called Trey Yuen. It was considered one of the best Chinese restaurants around.
WHAT HAPPENED?!? This place is now down right awful. I recently dined with a group of friends at Trey Yuen. We have doing this for years. Our service was just way below par. Soups and appetizers were cold or dried out. Everyone’s orders came out wrong and the taste was just not good. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told she was busy. FINE! Keep in mind that Trey Yuen is not a cheap Chinese restaurant, but on the upper price point. I can honestly say I get better Chinese from the local take out joints in the strip shopping center. And at half the cost.
Bottom line is I will never go back to Trey Yuen. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Pretty good chinese restaurant! The spring rolls were okay, tasty, but not the greatest. Honestly I thought there would be more per order, but only two. I ordered the shrimp lo mein, it was really good! Not greasy at all like some places make it. Had bean sprouts cooked in with the noodles as well for a crunch and deliciousness. I would definitely come back here again!

This was my first visit in about 10 years. The building still looks the same as did back then. I wonder if the fish outside are the same??? Hmmmm.
We arrived at 5pm, which is what time they open. We had a table of 5 and were seated immediately.
After our drink order, we ordered the Appetizer platter which consisted of fried shrimp, fried wonton ton, fried egg roll, and BBQ pork.
We also got a few egg flower soups and spring rolls.
For entrees we ordered pork fried rice, sweet and sour chicken with the sauce on the side, beef with Chinese vegetables, 4 happiness plate and shrimp in lobster sauce.
We had so much food leftover, we filled 3 take out boxes!
The service was top notch, the water glasses are only 6 ounces. They should get bigger glasses, I had mine refilled 5 times.
Out of all the dishes we had ordered there were no bamboo shoots, I thought this was part of all «Chinese vegetables» The food was good…
You should try!
