Paws A While

I went in to check the place out since my dog isn’t the most fond of men and I wanted to make sure that there were plenty of ladies there who could groom him. Everyone in there was so nice and welcoming to Trooper. They were aware of Trooper’s hesitancy towards men and they were patient with him.
I’ve taken Trooper there for daycare and grooming. He’s always timid at first around new dogs and people, but like I said, the staff is very kind and patient with him and allow him to warm up on his own terms.
I recently took him to get groomed and we had a timeline. I had already called and made a reservation and dropped him off around 11:15a on a Saturday morning. We had somewhere to be at 2:45p. They originally quoted me 2−3p but once I told them we had to be somewhere else, they were able to get him in all cleaned up and groomed and ready to go by 2p.
I think this is a great local establishment. They really care for their clients and are always happy to be around animals.

Amazing amazing amazing! Words can not express how incredible the services and people are who work at Paws a While. I am beyond humbled and moved by the way my animals were cared for. I have 2 rescue animals with extremely unique temperaments. In fact my chow chow mix has never even entered a boarding facility as well dog grooming facility without being asked to leave. She was not only happy at Paws for a While but she even seemed content immediately which is a first for her!
This had me humbled and feeling extremely at ease knowing my dogs were in such great hands.
The owner is beyond the kindest most hospitable dog loving person. She is SO great with all animals. I was stunned by how much she loved both of my pets equally as if they were her own.
And trust me, that says it all! I picked my dogs up and they looked fantastic and smelled clean from their bath. At first they were so happy I almost wondered if they wanted to stay longer. I’m not kidding. Each day knowing my dogs were in the excellent care of Paws a While was another day I could enjoy myself knowing my animals were not only safe but happy and loved.
Anyone giving this place anything less than 5 stars is most certainly incurring bad karma or are simply a miserable grinch. I can’t say one negative about this establishment-​except I’m not an easy person to please regarding my pets. I was not only pleased but feel blessed and beyond grateful. My animals are my everything.
Knowing that I can drop them off here when I leave from LAX is not only so convenient but also a breath of fresh air.
A million thanks to this incredible establishment. Knowing you exist brings me peace and joy this holiday season.

I was really looking forward to having my 5 year old lab Rozzie groomed at Paws Awhile.
I happened in there once waiting for my car to be serviced at the local Toyota dealer.
I poked my head in, met the owner, she was nice, place looked nice so I asked while I was there, might they trim Rozzie’s nails, they did … all good.
Fast forward to a charity event the other week where my wife and I saw a silent auction item from Paws A While.
It was 2 gift certificates valued at $ 50.00 each (2 groomings). I wanted it so bad, we put in a bid amount of $ 90.00 and ‘won it’.
Earlier this week I called and made a reservation to have Roz groomed the next day.
I asked how long the session would take, they said a couple of hours. So I brought her there on time and dropped her off (and re-​confirmed with the girl at the front how long it would take …” a couple of hours”…
After 2.5 hours I called and said I was heading over, and how are things going?
I was put on hold, then the person got back on and said could they have Roz stay there for another 2.5 hours!
Now some may feel this is no big deal, in fact maybe the clientele who go there may dump their dogs off and go shopping or something, but I didn’t have another 2.5 hours.
I asked ‘well is she at least in the midst of the grooming’? They said they had not even got to her yet… and their reasons:

The Dogs Ahead of Roz Had Real Complicated Cuts & Treatments AND,
that they Had Many Unexpected Walk-​Ins!
I asked don’t they prioritize reservations? They had no answer.
I was pretty much shocked that they expected me to leave my dog there for 5 hours.
So I went and picked Roz up and when I went in, the owner didn’t so much as glance at me, she was hunched over some schnauzer or something attending to one of those ‘complicated cuts’ like it was some stately topiary on the White House lawn.
All I said to the people there was that this was supposed to be a gift certificate donated by them to benefit a good cause and that they could keep that one plus the other $ 50 certificate because I’m never coming back.
No one there even attempted to assuage me e.g., «I’m terribly sorry Jon, what can we do to win back your confidence, we really messed up on our scheduling today and we don’t want to lose you as a customer»… the owner just ignored me, probably thought «Oh well we screwed up this one and just move on»…
Look, I don’t like blaming businesses on Unilocal,but a small business owner has to be smart enough to manage their flow of business.
They very easily could have said the day I made the ‘reservation’ that
(1) This is an extremely busy time of year, can we hold off until after the Holidays to redeem your first gift certificate?
(2) Are you OK with leaving your pet here as long as say 5+ hours…
I’m glad to see that Paws A While has such a great following, and I hate to be a spoiler (and probably no one cares anyway, certainly not the owner).
I guess the owner felt ‘Ya win some ya lose some’ …
About the only good thing is that the $ 90.00 I bid on the Paws A While grooming ‘gift’ went to a very good cause, a local dog rescue group and I hope my $ 90.00 can help some furry little buddy…

I am writing this review as I wait to pick up my entirely too tangled golden doodle an hour after Pawsawhile has closed. They are staying that late to give my beloved dog a beautiful groom. They go the extra distance and truly love dogs. My golden doodle always looks so fabulous when she’s been in their able hands. My dog has been there all day, and the dogs all have a great time roaming the (closed off) salon. It’s like a big puppy play date! I will never go anywhere else than this terrifically committed, awesome dog groomer!

My Monkey has a gland problem. She needs to get them expressed every few months. So, I figure she might as well get a bath and the royal treatment while she’s at it. I’ve taken her to a few other places. She starts shaking when I get her there and often I find that they didn’t do a good job of expressing her. I wind up having to take her to the vet and get it done professionally. I’m so glad my vet recommended this place. I guess the owner, who is there whenever we go in, used to be a vet tech. Since I’ve started going here I haven’t needed to go to the vet for her glands. They take such good care of her. And best of all Monkey doesn’t shake anymore when I take her in; she actually likes going here. I think it’s because at other places she gets locked up in a cage the entire day. Monkey is very friendly and loves socializing with the other dogs at Paws. The staff are very friendly and the place is kept clean. Thanks Paws-​a-​While, from both Monkey and me.

Let me start by saying I am very picky about who handles my dogs! I’ve had good experiences in the past at other places, but I will say that the moment my wife and I entered this business, we were hooked! They were so kind not only to us but more importantly to my dogs! They treated us like regulars from the get-​go, and that’s something you don’t find everywhere.
As for my dogs, they were so clean and smelled great! In the past, they couldn’t wait to leave a groomer but here they were more calm. Great prices, great treatment of my dogs, and awesome to speak with!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is a great grooming salon, they do an amazing job and their customer service is really good. They also offer Vet-​Supervised non-​anesthetic teeth cleaning once a month and they do an amazing job on it too :)

This place is seriously amazing. Christine is an amazing owner and groomer. My dog Cosmo is a psycho so when he acted normal and was so sweet I knew I found the best groomer. The place is super clean. I will always bring Cosmo here!!!

Ive been bringing my dog, Chubb, here for now 8 years and they are just the best! He got the most amazing haircut yesterday and I wanted to give them a shout out for always doing a consistant wonderful job!

What a great experience. We took two of our dogs to Paws A While today. they were treated like family and they look great. We loved the personalized touch, the team was great and Christine took excellent care and time on our little 6 pound Yorkie, Dino. I will become a regular client and i hope this review help you to want to join me.

We have been taking our dogs to Paws-​a-​While for grooming for about 25 years now, and have always been very pleased with the quality of the dog grooming and the service we receive there.
The shop owner, Connie, is a very experienced, skillful groomer who knows how to bring out the best in our bichon frise. Not only that, but he clearly loves to go there — he actually pulls me toward the door of the shop once I get him out of the car. That says a lot about Connie and her staff, and the friendly, caring atmosphere they create there.
Whenever I pick up our dog at the shop after his grooming, I have the opportunity to see the «after» view of the other breeds (dogs of all shapes and sizes) that come to Paws-​a-​While for grooming, and have always been impressed with how beautiful they look too.

I have never written a review before, however, I had such a bad experience at Paws A-​While that I have to comment on it. I had heard good things about this place and on the second visit, I received a call from Connie in the late afternoon letting me know that she had taken my dog to the vet around the corner. She realized she had nicked my dog and just to be on the safe side, she took her to the vet. She told me it was nothing and that I should pick up my dog from the vet. I assumed she must have an agreement with her local vet for courtesy visits. I thanked her for being so cautious. I called the vet and found out that my dog needed staples, medication, etc and it would be $ 300. They said I needed to call Connie to discuss payment. When I finally got a hold of Connie, she told me that it was an accident and these things happen and she wouldn’t charge me for the cut and we should call it even. I was preoccupied with several things one of which was getting my dog back before the vet closed and so I didn’t say much. However, I went over to speak with her the next day and was told she was out for a few days. I left a note for her to call me to discuss the bill and I have never heard from her. I’m really surprised she has managed to stay in business with this kind of service. I will never patronize her business again!

This is the first review I’ve ever written but I felt it was important to share my experience. I have three rescue dogs — two pugs and a little pug mix and these dogs are my everything. I brought my pups over to Paws A While because it was close and because my mother in law has been bringing her little pup there too for a few years. I had heard that her dog had a serious reaction to a shampoo once and couldn’t open his eyes the next morning but thought this could have been an unexpected allergy.
It was extremely difficult to get anyone on the phone to book the appointment. I called and called and called one day and got nothing. I left a message and didn’t get a call back. The next day I tried calling and finally was able to book an appt. The owner was friendly enough and fit all three dogs in that week and I was very appreciative.
Dropped the dogs off and everyone seemed happy. I came back at 4 to pick them up and was told that the owner had sliced my dog’s foot pad with her scissors but she was «fine» and «no longer bleeding». Mind you no one bothered to call me when it happened, warn me to bring bandages or a towel for my car, or just prepare me before I got there. Dealing with three dogs on a hot day is no walk in the park and I was just in a hurry to pay and get them loaded up in the car. I never thought at the time to ask for a discount.
Her foot was not bandaged and no big shock started bleeding again in the car. I didn’t notice immediately so it got in my car, all over my couches at home, and on our white furry throw blanket. To add insult to injury, neither of the pugs had their ears cleaned and they were coated in wax.
My husband called the owner to say that we don’t feel we should pay for the dog that was injured (I was offered NO discount whatsoever at the time I paid) because now we have the cost of cleaning both couches and the dry cleaning of the blanket (also note we didn’t ask for her to pay for the cleaning just refund the grooming fee). The owner’s response was that mistakes happen and that was that. The best she could do was a discount on a future appt. AS IF WE WOULD EVER EVER EVER COME BACK!!! I totally understand that mistakes happen but we shouldn’t have to pay over $ 300 for your mistakes. A simple phone call and a bandage or better grooming skills could have prevented all of this and a nicer, more apologetic attitude would have gone a lone way too. I felt almost as if she was spitting in our faces. It was so offensive.
I feel like I’m a kind and reasonable person and I understand the plight of people that work with animals and that accidents DO happen but you couldn’t pay me to have another interaction with Connie or Paws A While. Save yourself the trouble and find a more pleasant and competent groomer.

Thank you so much Connie and the team there! We are fairly new dog owners and every time we leave our 2 dogs with them they have the best care! She knows exactly how to cut them and helps give us suggestions about the best way to groom them, harnesses or leaches they may like, when to stop back in etc. all out of the pure care for our pets. She is so wonderful and sweet when our children are excited to see all the dogs in the there too so everyone always leaves happy and she always seems to go over and above! Thank you Paws A While!

I’m a Celebrity Dog, Connie has been grooming me for NINE years, she has helped me make my career the success it is. Each time I’m groomed she and my mom consult, about my look and the needs of where and what I will be appearing. Connie always takes it as a positive challenge and I ALWAYS look amazing. I’ve appeared on TV/​Film/​commercials and even won talent contests, been interviewed on talk shows and am loved by ALL that see me! I have a mohawk and lil pom poms I’m totally unique and could NEVER be where I am today without her endearing love/​creativity and willingness to trim me even in off hours. We have been taking our little guys to see Connie since 1986 when she was down at the beach. Connie is the best groomer ever. When we moved from Manhattan Beach to Thousand Oaks we still took our fur babies to her. Now we live in Bass Lake, CA near Yosemite and we still take them there. I’ve tried other groomers, but they don’t care, nor do we trust anyone with our babies, but we trust Connie. Connie is the BEST!

We have been going to Connie for over 30 years with all of our dogs and we love love love her and her grooming business. Our dogs always look awesome when we pick them up and she has given us many great tips over the years for their care and feeding. We recommend her services at the highest level!

It has taken me a couple months to calm down to write this review. I have been taking my Maltese here for a few years now and have always been very happy, until my most recent visit. I always drop my dog off in the am and pick him up late in the day after work and this has never been a problem. About 2 months ago, after I dropped my dog off I received a phone call around 11 am letting me know that I needed to pick up my dog within an hour as they were closing early. I was already in Anaheim for a work meeting and was extremely frustrated that I would have to hurry back to Hermosa to pick up my dog. When I explained my situation to the woman on the phone her response was, «Well its not my fault, the owner is making us close early because we had a few cancellations. You need to be here by 1 pm to pick up your dog. Don’t you have someone that can come and get him for you?» Well I am not sure who she is referring to but no, I do not have a butler nor an assistant. I have a job and they have posted hours of operation. I asked her why she didn’t tell me they were closing early when I dropped off my dog? and she told me that they had just decided.
When I arrived to pick up my dog, I was expecting an apology. But alas, no apology. What I got was more attitude. Her EXACT words were, «Why should I apologize? I didn’t do anything wrong.» How about an apology for the inconvenience and the time and gas wasted? I mentioned that I was in the hospitality industry and her response was, «maybe the owner should hire you to come and train us on hospitality then!»
Seeing that this conversation was going nowhere, I told her that I was very unhappy and that I wanted to speak to the owner before I paid. I asked her to have the owner call me if she wanted me back as a customer… I guess I have my answer.

I brought my Samantha here a few days ago for anesthesia free teeth cleaning. They do this service the 3^rd week of every month.
The vet onsite Matthew Smith was extremely knowledgeable and did a fantastic job on Samantha (she had tartar buildup and gingivitis from years of neglect from her previous owners). He also gave antibiotics to take care of the gingivitis. The service only took about 15 mins and we were set to go.
The overall fee was $ 145 ($ 125 for teeth cleaning + $ 20 for antibiotics). If you’re looking for anesthesia free teeth cleaning for your dog in Southbay area, this place is it… highly recommended.
Only downside, they never answer the phone (at least from my experience). Be ready to play phone tags if you’re making an appointment.

I interviewed them on the phone and they seemed so caring telling me to bring a personal clothing item for my dog to curl up with to feel more at home and a toy, his food and any treats. However, when I picked my dog up they gave me his back his bag of those things and the toy was in the bottom and the shirts were still folded like I left them. He was not given one treat or one morsel of his dog food. $ 55 dollars a day for boarding for which there is no open outdoor area for them to play in only a parking lot.
I have never written a negative review before but this was my dog they neglected. I must be fair though, he got a haircut during his stay and he did look good, although, they were running late with him and I saw the woman cutting his hair and she was rough and not friendly to him and he was just standing there shaking scared. Please be careful.
