Thuy Tran MD

Do not put your health at risk by going to Dr. Tran. She is rude, dismissive and extremely inexperienced. She spends very little time with you and she completely ignored all of my symptoms. 5 days later I was in the emergency room which cost me thousands of dollars. She should have sent me to a specialist for gallstones but instead she literally told me to get a new mattress for the sharp pains in my back, shoulders and abdomen. I kid you not. I disputed the bill with UCLA and they agreed. Her medical degree is a complete joke!

I have been seeing Dr. Tran for about 18 months. She has consistently offered great medical care and concern for my various conditions. She is vested in my health care and has given me great service and empathy. I have rheumatoid arthritis which I also treat through UCLA and she works with my rheumatologist to make sure my condition is well treated. She is on-​time and knows me when I come in. Previously I was treated through another doctor in Manhattan Beach, who could have cared less about me or my medical condition. How refreshing when I found Dr. Tran, who has offered superb medical care.

I would NOT recommend anyone to see Dr. Tran. It has been multiple times where I saw her for severe illness without receiving medicine perception from her. She always told me I would get well on my own. Every time I visited her when I was sick I felt like it was a big waste of my time, i’d be better off just lay in bed resting on my own. I asked her during my visit to diagnose my skin condition in addition to my flu, but she refused for the reason of one item per visit. She asked me to respect other patients who have appointment. Sure! Where are patients? Hello? I didn’t see any when I left but I saw her chilling in her office. If you know I am sick, would you be so kind that not having me drive back and forward so that you can charge me twice for my visits. I spent my last bit of energy researching another Dr today so I don’t need to see her again.

Dr. Tran has been my doctor for over 10 years. She is a smart, caring doctor, who has always been correct in her diagnosis. I am shocked at the negative reviews. My only explanation for the couple of bad reviews, is that these are people that are very needy, and want a chit chatty doctor that wastes time talking about the weather, etc, and not about what’s important. I want an intelligent doctor that tells it to me straight, and not someone to stroke my ego. I have 100% confidence in Dr. Tran.

I would advise any menopausal women to avoid this Dr at all cost. I wish I had of read these reviews first, instead I wanted a female pap test and asked Blue Shield to find the nearest to Manhattan Beach.
The office staff are beyond fantastic, friendly, efficient so no problems until the Dr walked into the room.
I asked her since it was a female exam to please pull my hormone blood work because I follow this every year. She told me I do not need it because I am in menopause and it is not important. «There is no normal levels for menopausal women» I told her I do not care about other women. I am monitoring my own to see if they are dropping fast or staying stable.
She then asked me why. I told her I had not made a decision as to whether I would go on bio identical hormones.
Wow she told me off, Told me she didn’t prescribe them and that she would not interpret the results for me. (I felt rather shocked as it is only a number that I have been following for 5 years so no medical degree is required to read a number)
She obviously thought I was stupid and didn’t realise I myself have a 7 year degree.
I regret allowing her to do the pap test because she asked my husband to leave the room. I have been married to my husband for 30 years and only met her for 5 minutes in which time she was aggressive and rude as well as opinionated .
Do not try in any way to discuss hormones. I should have walked out without the pap smear because I do not need to be humiliated like this.
Perhaps she is kinder to men or younger women but I will never ever walk into a UCLA health center again.

I’ve been a patient of Dr Tranh for 10 years and have total and complete confidence in her judgement, training and native talent. She’s a great no nonsense physician with empathy and considered cautiousness that I find very trustable. And she has outstanding training from Stanford and Ucla. What more do you need to know. She also volunteers every year to work in disadvantaged communities all over the world.

Terrible ! I have no idea why she became a doctor. She has absolutely no bedside manner at all. Rude beyond belief!

I have been going to Dr. Tran for years now. She has seen me through a gamut of issues. I appreciate her direct manner, and her no nonsense approach. She doesn’t have all day to chit-​chat, but that’s not her job. I go in Coincidentally, my husband has been a patient of hers for years as well.

I have been both Dr. Tran for 15 years and I can only say that she is a very fine physician. She is totally focused when it matters and her diagnoses is always accurate. She is t he best!

Dr. Tran has been my primary physician for well over a decade now and has helped me through numerous issues with professionalism and warmth. I was first impressed because she earned her medical degree from Stanford and completed her internship and residency at UCLA. These alone speak to her competency.
In the time that she has been my physician, I have transitioned from being a single professional to a mom with a family. When I’ve worried about having to come to an appointment with one of my children, she has encouraged me to bring them (so that she can see how much they’ve grown) which has been a relief when I couldn’t secure a babysitter. I’ve always found her to not only be a good listener but to also take an interest in what is going on in my life. For more specific medical issues, she has referred me to other really great doctors in the UCLA organization who, like her, have helped me with my pregnancies, pain, preventative treatments, etc.
Even when my health insurance provider, Blue Shield of California, decided that UCLA wouldn’t be in their PPO network for a year or so, it was worth the extra money (as well as the longer drive since I have moved) to continue seeing Dr. Tran not only because she knows my history but because she is a wonderful doctor. She and the staff at the Manhattan Beach office also worked out more cost efficient billing for me during that time period.
I can’t speak highly enough of Dr. Tran as she has been a consistently great doctor throughout the years.

Avoid Dr. Tran at all cost – she was simply awful in every respect. After receiving a referral from a friend, I made an appointment for a full annual physical. Dr. Tran spent her talking «AT» me (not with me) and wouldn’t let me ask any questions (kept cutting me off). She left the exam room after what was probably about a 3 minute physical exam (saying simply, «Excuse me.»). I assumed she had left to get something and was coming back. Not so. A nurse returned and announced she was there to draw blood for my labs. When I complained that Dr. Tran hadn’t finished and she couldn’t possibly know what labs were needed, the nurse got very pushy and tried to get me to let her take the samples. I refused and requested to finish with the Dr. prior to any blood draw. After waiting 15 minutes, Dr. Tran returned to my room and announced that if I wanted to discuss anything else with her, I would have to set another appointment and pay for another office visit. Needless to say, I told her she was unprofessional and surely not the Dr. for me. I called my insurance company immediately after leaving her office to request that they deny any request for payment. I should have know to run from the first call to the office to schedule an appointment. It took me three calls just to get my appointment scheduled. The practice has a «factory» feel from start to finish. I was placed on hold far too long, disconnected, and finally after I had successfully scheduled an appointment (2 months out), they transferred me to someone who was supposed to take my insurance information (to «save me time») and I was cut off again. When I called back, I got a run-​around about who I should speak to. I gave up and decided to skip the effort and just deal with it when I arrived for my appointment. Upon arrival, I walked into an over-​crowded waiting room. There were clearly too many physicians working out of one office with shared staff because when I was initially called back, they asked me to step on the scale. She looked at me and the scale and the chart and back to me and asked me my name again. When I gave her my first and last name, it turned out that they had called the wrong patient and sent me packing back out to the waiting room again).

Edit: Please notice how there are only 1 star and 5 star reviews and the 5 star reviews all mention her being their doctor for over 10 years/​years. Buying reviews or getting her friends to write them because she is a disaster.
Don’t bother, she doesn’t listen to her patients, refuses to talk to them on the phone if they have questions and doesn’t choose the right course of treatment for issues. Also, their billing dept is a nightmare. I’m lucky she didn’t mess up my health permanently. UCLA should look into dropping her, it’s clear from her other ratings she is below average.
Just to be specific, she refused to spend any time discussing my issues and blamed all of them on one thing. As it turns out, the one thing was just a symptom of another problem (a fairly easily fixed one). Instead she advocated that I go on a pill I would have to take the rest of my life. I have no family history of this disease and am in hear perfect health, not to mention my blood test results were inconsistent. Instead of taking into account my circumstances, she chose the quickest and easiest option for her. Additionally, when I tried to talk to her about sleeping problems, she blew it off and told me the one pill I was taking would fix everything. This could’ve been a really really terrible mistake for me, and the tests to look for other things are so simple, she really should’ve looked into it before prescribing something. But, that would take some of her precious time…
