My mission: To help people heal their relationship with themselves, by breaking through what is blocking them, on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels, and aligning them with their highest purpose and joy.

Blockages can surface on a physical level as back, neck, shoulder, or joint pain, stress, infertility, anxiety, digestive issues, as well as other health issues. I help you see what is going on, on a deeper level, when other modes of healing haven’t worked. My modalities of Acupuncture, Reiki, healing communications, therapeutic bodywork, and essential oil/​crystal/​tuning fork therapies are tools to help you achieve physical ease so you can heal on mental levels, and vice versa. This results in greater happiness, satisfaction of life choices, alignment with your life purpose, ability to stand in your own joy, and ease of regular self-​care and maintenance of the soul.

We are complex beings, and we live in a society that is disassociated from the spirit. Because of this, we have lost connection with the essence of whole, true, deep healing.

Margarita Alcantara, M.S.Ac., L.Ac. is a Licensed Acupuncturist in the states of NY, NJ, and CT, and a Reiki Master/​Teacher. Her private practice is based in New York City’s Flatiron District at Omni Wellness. She provides her Acupuncture and Reiki services at the Audre Lorde Project’s Wellness Days, providing healthcare for LGBTQ people of color, HIV+, low income (im)migrant and/​or people living with a disability. She has also worked at St. Ann’s Corner of Harm Reduction (SACHR) in the Bronx, where she performed auricular/​ear (NADA) and full-​body Acupuncture on populations recovering from addiction and homelessness, and was part of the team at Ariele’s Apothecary, a wellness center in Hoboken, NJ.

Margarita graduated with a Masters of Science in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York City. This comprehensive four-​year program included Chinese Acupuncture, oriental medicine theory, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and the study of Western diseases.

Margarita has been amazing! I go in for acupuncture almost every week and each time I feel more and more in tune with myself. The moment that I met Margarita I felt at ease. She has a light and warmth about her that immediately made me feel safe and open to sharing my story.
Since I started acupuncture with Margarita I’ve noticed a shift in my energy and how my body feels. I feel more energized and I’ve also been getting less headaches. After each acupuncture session, I leave feeling wonderful!

I’ve been going to Margarita for Reiki sessions for more than a year, for issues with sleep, anxiety and depression. I can honestly say that I feel amazing after each session; I usually go in feeling tense, sad and anxious, and leave in a spacey, happy and meditative state, feeling like my heart has opened up and I’m ready to face life again. She is someone who really cares about her work and her clients, and is very intuitive, warm, and knows what she is doing. She also takes time to really talk to you about what’s going on before each session, which I find very therapeutic. Give her a chance, you will be happy that you did.

I’ve had a wonderful experience with Margarita. She has helped me with acupuncture treatments for an ongoing pain problem and I’m feeling much more like a regular person again!
She takes insurance which is a huge benefit for me and payment procedures are easy as pie. Her office space is very welcoming, clean and convenient. She always takes the time to make you feel comfortable and welcomed and she likes to close out a session with a tailored essential oil blend which I really appreciate.

I went to Alcantara center for a reiki session with Margarita,
I was in a hard time of my life with a lot of personal problems to fix and wanted to have a new beginning. I wanted my body to be balanced and full of good energy. I was really happy with the treatment. Since my first session I feel way more relaxed, calm and more focused on my future. Margarita is very sweet, understanding and psycological. A dear friend of mine referred Margarita to me. I can’t begin to explain how impactful her treatments have been on my mind and body. Recently, I came in for an acupuncture session super stressed feeling like my heart was going to jump out of my chest. I work with patients/​clients that are severely affected by trauma related injuries, so the effects on me as a practitioner can be intense. Working on that, but that’s another story!
As per usual, Margarita was kind, caring, interested, and compassionate when speaking with me and then went on to explain the reasons why she was about to use these particular treatments in our session. Within minutes I felt this surge of relaxation, like a magnet was bringing me towards the earth. I felt really blissed out and grateful. Grateful that my dear friend recommended this amazing healer and woman to me, grateful that my body could respond to Margarita’s treatments, and grateful that i feel like something opened up for me in this session.
It is clear to see that Margarita has been blessed with a special gift of healing and intuition, however, what is also plain to see is that she has worked hard to cultivate her gifts which is a choice that not all naturally gifted healers make:)

For four weeks, I had unexplained swelling and pain in my knee, so I decided to try acupuncture. My friend Pavla recommended Margarita at Alcantara Acupuncture, who she’d been seeing to treat her (serious) allergies.
Walking into Margarita’s treatment room is like slipping away from the noise and chaos of New York City. I have seen her three times now, and I look forward to each visit. Margarita is an attentive listener, and tries to address your pain points (whether it’s a toxic coworker or a swollen knee) from a holistic point of view. I now go to Alcantara for Reiki treatments, which I prefer to acupuncture because I like actively working with Margarita for an hour. (During acupuncture, you rest for your treatment; during Reiki, Margarita stays to help you calibrate your body’s energy.)
I had never done Reiki before, but now I love it. It’s an hour of quiet and gentle energy channeling from the crown of your head to your toes. It’s the opposite of racing toward the finish line; it’s my one hour of reflection and meditation guided by Margarita. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Long story short, Reiki with Margarita worked!
I had trouble with my communication skill, its as if my mind never connects to my mouth. I spent 2 years in therapy to treat my anxiety while taking many speech courses to improve my speaking skill… nothing worked
A couple months ago, the day before my interview for a job I really wanted, i visited Margarita. She was very kind to make time to see me in such a short notification for a Reiki treatment. Since then I have gone back a couple more times to work on my communication goal.
After 3 rounds of interview, I landed the job.
I felt improvement over the last 3 months and had a sudden breakthrough a couple weeks ago. I felt myself speaking fluently and eloquently, in front of a client and coworkers at my new job! It was as if my body was adjusting to the new energy slowly, and finally worked.

Margarita is so patient, incredibly caring, and really listens to your needs. I was a huge skeptic with Reiki because I didn’t think it would help me but after a few sessions I felt this calmness and peace that was so hard to achieve in a city like NYC.
It’s hard to describe what I’m going through right now. My body is physically changing and things are happening that hadn’t before. I’m not going to go into detail but my body is definitely readjusting. It’s a process but Margarita will be right there with you to guide you.
I set my standards high. I rarely give establishments on Unilocal a 5 star review but Margarita really cares about healing people. She sends out e-​mail blasts and writes blog posts and records MP3s and videos. She’s not just in it to take your money she genuinely wants to share this information with you.

Had the pleasure to know Margarita and worked with her mostly through accupuncture sessions. She was always ready to listen, open heartedly, to anything I was ready to share. Every time I spoke to her she was calm and peaceful and offered great advice on how to improve my situation. I wish I could continue to see but life has brought me to the opposite coast. I can’t say enough good things about Margarita!
Her acupuncture and reiki treatments are outstanding. Her use of essential oils, and the serenity of her office environment have left me feeling calmer and stronger than I usually do after other acupuncture appointments. And her knowledge of herbs and recommendations have been beyond helpful for helping me stay balanced and healthy between sessions.
However, the best thing about Margarita is she’s an amazing listener! She begins every treatment session discussing what’s happening in my life and my emotional state. I love working with Margarita!
She has a kind, calming and peaceful spirit and her Reiki sessions are extremely powerful. She takes the time to walk you through her technique and discuss any troubles you are experiencing. If you haven’t heard already a few times now, Margarita is really and truly wonderful! She has been really easy to open up to and share my deep personal issues and struggles I have been going through. My first session with her I was able to open up, which has been a problem for me in the past since I have build such a hard wall around me from my past bad experiences in life. Since I have been seeing her I have noticed a huge change in that aspect of my life and have noticed considerable differences in how i feel overall with my general well being and joy in life. I feel more balanced, clear headed, and am able to tackle my emotions in a more in touch manner than ever before.
After the first Reiki session i’ve noticed the difference. I have been going through a lot of hardships in my relationship and I must say the meeting and timing of me coming to see Margarita couldn’t have been more perfect, the universe was definitely looking out for me!

I love Margarita!
I’ve been grappling with acne skin issues and sleep disorder for years. My dermatologist recommended me to Margarita and I felt a huge difference after our first appointment. Margarita is great!
I fell great from the very first moment I met her. She made me feel very comfortable, so was easy for me to go through the Reiki treatment and relax.
Reiki was above any expectation. What an intense and interesting experience. After the session I fell lighter, and definitely it has helped me a lot. I can feel now how my energy is more balanced. No more bad tempers since then, I smile much more, and I feel on peace. No more anger!!!

I have known Margarita for many years, but I only received my first treatment from her last week. Totally unbelievable and healing is all I can say. I have had many many acupuncture and reiki sessions over the years, but my session with Margarita was unlike any other. I quite literally felt energy *move* through my body as she needled key points, and afterwards, for the first time in months, I was totally free of my chronic neck and shoulder pain. More than simply healing physical pain, Margarita also gently but assertively diagnosed some deep emotional pain I have been subconsciously carrying, and gave me some true insight into how I can let go for more permanent physical and spiritual relief. For her work, I have nothing but immense gratitude for her. Those of you that live in the NY metro area, you are so lucky to have her. She is truly a gifted healer!

Working with Margarita in Reiki sessions has dramatically improved my life and has been without a doubt a 5 star experience.
I first went to Margarita late last fall after becoming interested in Reiki through my yoga practice. I’ll echo what has already been said on here about Margarita– communicating her for the first time was efficient, informative, and absolutely set a positive tone for future interactions.
The office space in which she practices is beautiful and peaceful– the perfect setting for any healing practice. Margarita has a way about her that instantly makes you feel at ease, and yet eager/​enthusiastic about your work with her. Since beginning to work with her, she has consistently been knowledgeable, supportive, and kind. She really takes the time to listen to what is going on, as well as explain everything about the experience– from TCM concepts to something I might have experienced during the reiki session.
I look forward to returning to see Margarita soon– I am SO enjoying reiki and am also considering acupuncture sessions to support myself through quitting smoking!
I also highly recommend checking out her blog– I get a weekly e-​mail with her blog posts that are always interesting and inspiring.
PS– for anyone who has never experienced reiki before– I have found it to be not only extremely informative in terms of what is going on in my life/​my body BUT it has been more relaxing for me than any massage and the physical benefits have been immediate.
