Canine Styles West

Visited the midtown location today to shop for a coat for my 3 month old chocolate lab. There were some beautiful pieces in the store and I was looking to splurge a bit on my baby but the staff was very unwelcoming. There were no price tags on any of the pieces and they seemed frustrated with any question I had. The shopping experience was uncomfortable to say the least and even though I spent nearly $ 200 on just two pieces, the staff made me feel as if I was not a valued customer because I did not want to spend $ 1,000 on apparel that wouldn’t fit my puppy after 3 more months. I was shopping cautiously because for a $ 100 sweater, I wanted to be sure it was something Sofie can wear throughout the winter and hopefully the next… Very disappointed in the service. Don’t expect any help when shopping here.

In the 5 yrs. i’ve brought my pup here i’ve sadly had to move on. I am a loyalist to the end but the last visit was just that. Done. I noted that his nails were not clipped (I know to check after 2xs leaving and having to return) only to hear that «yes» this is clipped and «no» that isn’t a poking bit sticking out uneven. I can assure you YES it is a poking bit and NO you did not clip his toenails as least correctly or evenly.
I have only 2xs felt the cut was done as I requested «round face not square» «ears to chin» «short tail». take as much time as you need i’m not in a rush. only to come back and find the cut not at all what we discussed in person WITH the groomer. I learned early to have that face-​to-​face talk with the groomer not the sales staff.
I really, really wanted to like this place and kept trying but it did not work for me at all.
Moving on even if it means traveling across town or wherever we need to go since $ 119 plus tax for a poor cut and toenail clip. You should be able to get what you ask and pay for at that price.

I wanted to like this place but as we were browsing a GIANT CAT appeared (it clearly belonged to the woman at the register). We ventured to this shop because it’s a dog store (hence the name Canine Styles). I have a severe cat allergy and figured I would be safe. Left immediately and didn’t buy any of the merchandise that my pet would have loved.

Both of my dogs have been to Canine West. The staff is always friendly and they are lucky to have Chyna. My Morkie loves him. My westie had her first haircut with him yesterday and she looks beautiful. I also buy their harnesses for dogs. They are well made and last a very long time! I would recommend them to anyone. They are a bit pricey but you pay for what you get. It cost $ 119.75/dog.

I had a terrific experience here with my hound, Pudd’n. As a rescue, she is very skittish about being bathed and rarely lets anyone trim her nails. Everyone at Canine Styles was sensitive to that, and when I picked her up, I was greeted by a 65 lb. dog that smelled great, had shorter nails, and was practically sitting in the groomer’s lap wagging her tail. I recommend them without reservation.

If I could, I would give this place 0 stars. I purchased some dog treats from this store. Since there were only 3 ingredients, I assumed it was safe and healthy for my dog. Little did I know, the treat caused my poor pup to have a terrible allergic reaction!
I tried to return the bag. Yes, the bag was open, but I only gave my dog 1 treat. The bag was practically full. Regardless, the manager would not let me return it. She said because it was open, I cannot return the bag. She said I am taking risk feeding my dog the treats. Do they even stand by the products that they carry in the stores?
Not to mention, the manager was extremely rude, and very unhelpful. When I mentioned that the treats gave my dog a terrible reaction, she didn’t seem to care at all. This shows lack of customer service. I can’t believe she’s a manager!
When I was leaving the store, another customer who was in the store with me when I was trying to return the faulty treats, came up to me, and she too complained about the lack of customer service and the rudeness of the manager. She couldn’t believe how I was treated, and she said she will never buy any products from this store.
Needless to say, I will never return to this store! And I warn everyone, DO NOT PURCHASE TREATS HERE! Not only are they expensive, but they may cause bad reactions to our furry buddies and the manager will not care!

I love the store portion of this establishment– great dog clothes and sense of style. So I thought although steep in price, I would try the grooming services. I was quoted $ 100 for a ten pound poodle mix. When the bill came it was $ 119. Okay not so happy but what made the experience not acceptable was returning home and finding nicks all over my baby from the clippers. There were abrasions from the way he was trimmed — this has never happened before and he didn’t go that short. I am going to pass on coming back for these poor and overpriced services and the cut was uneven — it wasn’t even a great groom — but certainly one of the pricier ones.

I just posted a scathing rant of the company’s Upper East Side location, where the woman I spoke with on the phone this morning was incredibly rude (not the first time I’ve had such an interaction there). Then I called the West Side location, where the people have been helpful in the past. I had a GREAT experience. Whereas the woman at the East Side store wouldn’t even let me ask my question but rather shouted at me, telling me to call the Web site manager, the woman at the West Side store was extraordinarily helpful, and freely gave me all the information I needed about shipping some warm clothing to my freezing dog. In addition, she was friendly and kind. Thank goodness for small miracles.

Wouldn’t let ANYONE other than China come NEAR my dog with clippers! The guy is a treasure — has the disposition of a saint with seemingly infinite patience for endless super-​high-​maintenance UWS owners and their spoiled pets (OK, mine is spoiled too, but that’s different). I polled all the dog owners I knew when we were looking for a groomer and China got the most raves. He is A FIND! Took me in the back and taught me patiently how to take care of our dog the right way between groomings, hooked me up with the right equipment, the guy is awesome. Everyone else at the store is nice too and very accommodating but I’m really there for China; if he decides to relocate to Kuala Lumpur Fudge & I will be following him there. ..

If you want to pay a lot of money for a horrible grooming and terrible service, then this is the place for you. The older woman who typically manages the front desk is horribly rude and rolled her eyes when I told her what my dog breed was, essentially calling me a liar. They managed to make my terrier look like a rat. Worst grooming I’ve ever seen. And the most expensive. What’s worse is my dog now fears going near the place too. Stay away. They think they’re high end, but its only the price tag that is, not what you get for it.

I’m writing this updated review as our last two experiences were not very good, and we’ve decided to move on to another groomer.
To be specific, our last visit a few weeks ago was to be a «Bath Plus» which should include a bath plus nail trim, anal gland expression, and general neatening (which in the past included removal of any obvious mats). When we picked up our dog and paid the $ 80+, he barely looked any different — in fact, he looked worse — his ears were scraggly and uneven).
Also, we just took him to the vet, who said that his anal glands had clearly NOT been expressed for several weeks. So either Canine Styles didn’t do it, or they didn’t do it well.
Considering the high prices and frankly not-​so-​great service (though China always did give excellent haircuts — he’s great), we’re going to find another groomer.

Incredible, personalized service. I just adopted a wonderful Shitzu Poodle mix named Teddy and I was hesitant to have him groomed just because he is so young (almost 4 months– but very ahead of the game for his age). The wonderful people at Canine Styles West quelled my fears and then I got the blissful opportunity to meet China. China is one of the best groomers and best people I’ve met in my life! My little pup melted in his arms and that gave me complete confidence that my new little friend would be taken care of. In the meantime, while Teddy was being bathed, I was helped by the enthusiastic and extremely educated staff. They all very clearly adore their job, they love animals and they love taking care of dogs. I have purchased everything for my guy at their store, yes it is a bit pricey but practically everything is hand-​made in store and the quality speaks for itself. They have been so great and it is wonderful to know that there is a quality place that is so trustworthy in new york city.

I’ve had a good experience here! My pup has been getting groomed by China for a number of months. He always comes out looking fantastic. I love that directions are listened to. I have gone to other groomers and given instructions for a trim, or just a brush out, and my preferences were totally disregarded. China has always listened to my requests.
My dog can be a nervous little guy, so I always worry about leaving him alone — but he always walks away from his groom calm and happy. As the other reviewer mentioned, it is rather pricey, however one flat price includes the works: nails trimmed, ears cleaned, etc. Other groomers might seem cheaper but will tack on extra charges for additional services. It all evens out in the end. Worth it!

First time I went to this place I thought they were pricey but i thought I would give them a try. My dog looked good so I went back for a second time.
He wasn’t groomed enough when I brought him home, and oh.
they taxed me on the tip!
I’m a little peeved and will not be going back there for a while. There are plenty of other groomers in this area!
