Gene’s Day Spa

There are few things I look forward to than my every other week massage with Gene. after trying so my other places I feel I found the perfect place: quiet, relaxing and having Gene always knowing what areas to concentrate on. My back, neck etc. have gotten to the point where I feel fairly good in general and now I am able to maintain a level of well being I was not able to achieve before. His understanding of muscle, tendons and ligaments and how they interact has made me appeciative of his quiet no nonsense style of massage and the benefits I receive from his technique.

Let me level with you. I’m a college student with stress that’s destroying my body inside and out. I have constricted blood flow and knots all over my back that hurt to even touch. With the level of pain that I’m in, I decided that I should invest in an hour massage so that I could actually walk properly and not waddle from excruciating pain. In comparing prices, the price here is actually pretty decent given the quality and impact. Gene really listened carefully to everything I said and gave me frank feedback. It really was evident that he cared and wanted to make sure I got better. It was my first time getting a massage, but the environment was very comforting and calming. I almost fell asleep because of how relaxed I was! By the time my hour was up, I was in shock. I had NO MORE KNOTS. NO MORE PAIN. I’m going to come back here for a massage each break!

I did not care for my massage with Gene. Not only is he very expensive, but his dour manner and bleak analysis of my issues made my condition sound hopeless. He also did the one thing that would, guarantee, worsen it, in spite of his supposed expertise. So I walked out in worse pain. No thanks.

Gene is a genius. He has amazing intuition and knows exactly where to go and what to do. You don’t have to say a word. His office is clean, quiet, private, he does not gossip, and the music is relaxing and inspirational. He is breaking down scar tissue built up over 43 years of repetitive movement teaching dance. He is realigning my arthritic hip and restoring strength and mobility. I feel like I am growing a new leg. I am able to climb the subway stairs without pain. He is giving me a new life!

I just had a great massage with Gene. I’ve had numerous massages but I truly believe he is the best. My back was hurting badly from the hiking that I did on a recent trip and I needed some relief. I didn’t have to tell him anything. He figured out where the problem was and gently and firmly took care of everything. After the massage I felt every pain had gone. Then he gave me some really good advice so I could take care of myself better.

After reading the rave reviews, I was shocked to have had a dismal experience. I found Gene to be quite «cold» and disinterested. Although he has some nice components in his work (hot towels and stones) nothing in his work seemed specific to me and my needs. I requested that Craniosacral therapy be a part of the message but it wasn’t. I like a firm massage, but he was rough to the extent that I am bruised and uncomfortable. When I checked out, he told me it was $ 120 + gratuity. He’s the owner, and I am not accustomed to owners getting tips, but worse than that was asking for a gratuity. I’ve seen many masseuses over the years, and my time with Gene may have been least satisfying experience.

After reading so many great reviews, I felt confident that this is the right place to take my mom for her birthday. My mom works as a cleaning lady and takes care of my child so I was very picky on making sure she gets the best treatment out there and Gene Day Spa did just that and more. Gene is a very pleasant man and from what my mom told me, his hands are blessed by God! She could not stop thanking me for giving her a great gift and I am grateful I found Gene. My whole family are planning to see him in the near future after so many ravings my mom said about him. Thank you Gene for being so good at what you do!

Amazing work. He can feel your troubles without you saying a word. It’s a gift, and he has it. Highly and enthusiastically recommended by someone who has had many massages in her life.

After reading all the reviews here, I decided to give Gene a try. His massage was relaxing and therapeutic. Gene even diagnosed a recent problem that I am having with my shoulder. He used enough pressure on this area so that it wouldn’t feel so tight. Most importantly Gene recommended that I slow down with my workout routine because it is giving me some problems with my legs. I never expected all of this great attention to my joints. I am definitely going to be a regular here!!!

Gene gave me his signature massage and it was fantastic. He is one of those rare masseuses who seemed to know where to focus and could tell what needed done. I have had a lot of massages and this one was terrific. I will definitely be returning!

Gene is the most wonderful masseuse and a genuinely nice person. I have lived in many different cities and tried lots of different types of massage and Gene’s is the most relaxing I have found. He has really worked with me on sports and overuse injuries and has given me helpful suggestions on how to accelerate healing at home. I have moved out of the city and still make a very long journey to see him because he is irreplaceable. I would recommend him to anyone.

I am really surprised this places has only two reviews but Gene truly merits 2000 reviews.
He is the most amazing masseuse I have been to ever. And I have been to many. I finally sought him out when my hemisensory migraines kicked back up and my meds at the time were not working. I knew I needed a therapist who truly practiced therapeutic massage and understood the body in a way that was far beyond your typical fruffy massage experience.
And Gene truly possesses that and more.
But what is nice about Gene and makes him unique is two different important points. He believes that therapeutic massages must also be relaxing to be truly therapeutic. To reach this goal he does incorporate more Eastern stretching type techniques but also incorporates warm towels, hot stones, and aroma therapy.
The most relaxing massage I have ever had. And he truly fixes you. Like you leave and if you have things hurting which I normally do, you leave with them NOT hurting. Not just a bit better, actually not hurting.
Am so grateful I found Gene. Do not know what I would do without him.

A terrific massage at a reasonable price. Gene is pleasant and professional and very good at finding the spots that need extra attention. The studio is small with a desk/​reception area, then the massage area tastefully separated and decorated. The «Gene’s Special» is the way to go; a combination of deep tissue with other techniques. Pressure will be adjusted to just the way you want it. After trying out some other places I’ve been with Gene for about a year and there’s nothing not to like. Jane O

let me just break it down to you. this sometimes three week wait is worth every penny. the man is a gem and once you see gene all others are second rate. i have had knee surgery 4 times and nothing helps me accept gene’s knowledge of the body i book my appointments three weeks in advance cus otherwise getting an quick appointment is just not an option. the man is the best of the best! wish tomorrow was friday for my appointment

Gene might be the very BEST massage therapist in town. I will never book massage with anyone else now that I know what a massage can be! I really can’t say enough about this small, calming oasis on the UWS. In addition to his amazing technique, he actually customizes the treatment based on your current problem areas. Just go. I think I finally found the best massage in the city. Gene is pure talent.

We love Gene! He is a knowledgeable, skilled, caring, happy, professional licensed masseuse who also specializes in sports massages. He has been our masseuse for over 8 years.
We have used Gene as our sports masseuse after our knee and ankle surgeries. Being active we sometimes pull or overwork our muscles, ligaments and joints. Gene always gently and firmly massages, manipulates and stretched them back to health.
His Spa is very clean, quiet and easy to reach by public transportation.
We highly recommend that you try Gene. You will not be disappointed :)

I found Gene through an Amazon local deal and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Gene is different from other massage therapists in that he is seriously knowledgable, experienced, and effective. He also seems to genuinely care about treating your problem areas (I have a lot of problems with my hip) and I really feel that I am in the care of a health professional. He is not just there to give a generic massage and earn money, he really knows what he’s doing and he gives you a customized massage catering to your needs. He also gave me very helpful tips on how to manage my muscle tension on my own and I never got the sense that he was rushing or pushing me to come back. I highly recommend him!

I’ve needed therapeutic massage since the 1970s, and have had massages of all kinds by many people in many places. I found Gene several years ago and have stuck with him because he listens to what I need (my injuries and tight areas change all the time) and is able to focus on fixing and relaxing the areas that need it. He is knowledgeable about and discuss with you why you have pain in one area and what might be the cause (and therefore how you yourself can stop what is causing pain or address it to some degree at home). His space is very pleasant with an Far Eastern flavor. I would be a physical wreck without the service he provides.
