Service was great. Food was mediocre, Hibachi menu was pre-prepared, and the Sushi was served above temperature.

Over the four years I’ve been in MHK, I’ve been to this place several times a year and have watched as the service, speed, atmosphere and quality have really gone downhill. I’m not sure if it has changed hands or if they’re just really skimping on cleanliness and quality of staff(I know it’s hard to find restaurant help in Mahnahattn), but last night was the last straw. We found a very long hair in one of our rolls. The waitress was one of the nicer ones I’d had in recent visits, but they didn’t even comp us the whole roll, only $ 3.75(maybe half the roll?). It was a paltry gesture. The booths are all torn, the blinds are filthy and mostly drawn(so you can’t see just how dirty it is?) and it can take a very long time to get your food here. Sushi quality is still okay, but it’s not worth it coupled with the other factors. These folks need to step it up!

Not impressed at all. It took more than twenty minutes for me to get my water. Just water. Never mind me the fact I was ignored by my server and watched three tables that arrived after me get their food and drinks. The«salad» was just frozen lettuce and thousand island dressing, and the sushi quality left a lot to be desired. It’s sad that this is considered a top sushi spot in Manhattan.

Great sushi. Casual, aging atmosphere and décor. Service was fine. Our waiter was big on upselling both liquor and sushi. Liquor selection limited to saki and barefoot wine and domestic beers. But in the end, good sushi at a fair price!

I came here when I first moved to Manhattan(over a year ago) and never wanted to go back. That should say enough. The music was blasting at the bar, the chef refused to look me in the eye or engage in any conversation(which to me is the fun of sitting at a sushi bar), and the quality was unappetizing. I left expecting a stomachache. Fast forward to having my husband living here and my refusal to eat anywhere but Umi for sushi. He had not joined me on a sushi date in months because I have been cooking a ton at home and sometimes eating sushi when we were out of town. He finally offered to take me for sushi last night, and I agreed to give Green Tea another try so he could finally try out a different place. We walked in a little after 9:30, and the restaurant was preparing to close down. The music was still blasting at the bar, and the same indifferent chef right in front of us at the bar avoided eye contact and conversation whatsoever. Our server was nice, and answered some questions. We got hot green tea and water. Here nigiri is 2 pieces per order whereas Umi allows one piece per order, which guarantees for more variety for the same price. Given that I would be limited if I ordered nigiri, I ordered the chirashi so I could get a variety for a reasonable price($ 15.95) as well as a salmon skin hand roll. My husband ordered the mango roll appetizer, a rainbow roll, an Alaska hand roll, and seaweed salad. The seaweed salad came out first and then the mango roll, with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, mango, and avocado in a rice paper wrap with a sweet mango sauce. This was pretty tasty though the sauce was a bit sweet. Then the chef made the salmon skin hand roll and set it in front of us on the counter but did not hand it off. We had to ask if we could take it as the seaweed got soggy. I bit into it and determined the salmon skin was not edible. It was fatty, almost raw skin with no crunch or heat to it. I have only had something almost as bad at a restaurant in Vegas, but this should not have been served. It was not remotely cooked or crunchy. We told the server I did not want it, and he told the chef who argued he cooked it in his toaster. He offered to either toast another one but said it would be the same or deep fry it in the kitchen. I make salmon skin at home and have eaten it at many sushi restaurants, and it has never been deep fried. I just said I did not want it or a replacement. The hubs then got his rainbow roll which looked pretty good and was topped with masago, as well as his hand roll. This hand roll had soggy seaweed as well. Lastly, I got my chirashi, which was decent, with kani, tamago, tako, saba, maguro, sake, escolar, tai, and ebi. The quality still was not there. The best fish on the plate was the salmon. I had to wait quite a while to flag someone down to get ponzu sauce since the chefs disappeared, and some kitchen staff were eating dinner at the bar and chatting with the servers, on the other side from us. When we got our bill, we were charged for the inedible hand roll so we had to ask to get that taken off of the bill, which irked me. However, the server did refill our teas regularly so that was appreciated. Overall, the atmosphere just isn’t my cup of tea(pun intended), and the quality isn’t there. I will stick with Umi as my go-to place in town for sushi.

Green Tea Sushi is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. From the outside, the place looks very average and the inside could use some renovating too. Nonetheless, the place is clean and the food is wonderful.

Ordered online for delivery. There was issue with my address being transposed. I really don’t think typed in the address wrong, but it is possible. Missed the call from the driver, so took 2 hours to get my order. Not entirely their fault but made for a frustrating experience. Ordered three of the chef’s rolls. The spicy scallop roll was really good. The others were average.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this place is only one of two sushi restaurants in Manhattan, KS. Since there’s not much competition, I wasn’t expecting a lot from this place. Plus, you know something’s up when you walk into a Japanese restaurant and contemporary Chinese music is playing. Anyways here’s my breakdown of our order: Sashimi Regular Dinner — 15 pieces of dinner equated to 3 pieces of salmon, tuna, whitefish, sea bream, and octopus. The pieces were cut fairly thick, which I appreciated, but the overall size of the cut was lacking. I also have a suspicion that since this place is in the middle of Kansas, most of the fish comes in frozen. Crispy Spicy Salmon Roll — Tempura-fried avocado and spicy salmon roll, topped with spicy mayo, tempura flakes, and tobiko(orange fish eggs). This roll had potential, but the stale tempura flakes that were topped on this roll ruined it. The stale potato chip texture took over the whole bite. Dragon Roll — California roll topped with avocado and eel. Dragon rolls are generally a safe selection at nearly all sushi restaurants and this place was no different. Bottom line: service was good, prices were decent, sushi was bearable. If this was California, I’d probably never come back here, but since it’s Kansas, this will probably have to do.

Great lunch experience this summer. New management doing a good job — friendly service, good value for lunch with two or three roll options. Generous salad and soup included. Love the variety of rolls.

I’m giving Green Tea five stars because not only was it a great experience, but I’d like to encourage people to give it a try in spite of the mixed reviews I’ve seen. Having a three-star rating overall is very ambiguous, so I was torn on whether to try this place or not. Ultimately I went for it, and was very satisfied. The general consensus amongst other reviews seems to be ‘good food, bad service’. The former is true but the latter is not; my service was just as stellar as my food. Perhaps it varies from server to server, but mine was very polite, helpful and prompt. As far as the food goes, it was served hot and fresh, and tasted very good. I also didn’t get a stomach ache or any kind of post-eating-out sickness. If I have to complain about something I will mention a few minor things. For one, there was no hostess ready to seat us when we got there, but the waitress filled in as soon as she could. Two, be sure to order multiple orders of your chosen entrée, as portion sizes are quite small. Lastly, my napkin(paper napkin) was stained, so I had to steal one from another table. This stuff happens, however, and is by no means a disqualifier for me. Green Tea is not an upscale, fancy restaurant. But for a small place located in a college town, it certainly exceeds the standards. Give it a try, you won’t regret it.

So good and reasonably priced! Sushi is amazing and for the location and far access to quality fresh seafood it’s decent!

Not much of a fan of chicken or steak in my sushi rolls. I feel like this place tries to over do it, sometimes less actually is more. The service we received here was not the best either. I don’t think it’s worth a second visit.

Bleh. Not terrible but not great. I’ve had some pretty awesome fish in my life, but this wasn’t even close to great. Most of their stuff is tempura fried to mask this fact. The sushi was palatable, but when attempting the sashimi, I gave up. Especially the mackerel. Tasted like it was previously frozen, salted, and dried for three-plus days. I’d suggest going elsewhere in town for dinner.

Walked in on a rainy day with athletic shoes and found the floor to be extremely slippery. Must have been a buildup of tempura grease. Need to solve that problem before someone gets hurt!

We were a bit skeptical of this place due to the mixed reviews but we decided to go on the recommendation of a friend… And we’re so glad we did! I love the fact that they still have a lunch menu on Saturday(most restaurants limit lunch to weekdays only). We sampled the pork katsu bento box, chicken and shrimp hibachi, & gyoza. The pork katsu box was delicious– it came with rice, katsu, 4 pc California rolls, and 2 pc gyoza. All were wonderful! My husband got the chicken and shrimp hibachi which he said while good, Umis hibachi tasted better overall– plus, they had a subpar Japanese yumyum sauce that didn’t really even taste like it should’ve. Prices were great, bento box 8.95, 5 pieces of gyoza 3.95, and my husband’s chicken and shrimp hibachi(from the dinner menu) for 14.95. Overall, great selection of Japanese cuisine and good rolls. We’ll be back!

Manhattan, Ks is the butthole of America… I’m sorry if I offend anyone… But it’s the truth… So I came here on business…(Cause I have no clue who would visit this awful place) and I decided to use the powers that be( Unilocal) to find a sushi spot(I hear this place is known for barbecue, I don’t eat that) so I found this place… 4 stars rating… Worth a try… I start out ordering a hot green tea… While I waited I asked the sushi chef what were the popular rolls here… He didn’t speaka da Engwish… Which isn’t a bad thing he looked Japanese(calm down people… Most of y’all non-blacks think all black people look alike…) just made me hope that the sushi would be AmazaBalls! Got my green tea… It was lukewarm… Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooo… The waitress was nice and brought me out another one… Which was hot… As I waited for my sushi I noticed a little bar with wine and beer… And a little sake… Looked pretty decent… Got my salmon sushi… It was ok… Like … 2.8 star good… I’ve definitely had much better… But remember we’re in Americas butthole… So hey… That’s not to bad… My roll took forever to come… It was deep fried or something… Or had to be flown in from Japan… Cause I waited like 20 min for it… And it was not great… Like 2.2 great… Ughhhhhh… I hate this place…

This little restaurant are getting better each month. Fish are all fresh. Owner many times drive to KC or fly to NY to get the top ingredients. Agedashi tofu and seaweed salad are the must for appetizers. If you are into fish, order the grilled Hamachi Kama with a can of Sapporo beer to start your meal. For hard core Jap food people, should ask the front counter Shushi chief what is fresh today and order them either Sashimi or Nikiri style. For lite dinners, try their standard rolls or Yaki Udon or Soba. One of the restaurant in Manhattan I won’t mind to go each week. You’ll will walk out of there feel light, healthy, not greasy but enjoyed.
