I rented from McCullough at two different locations in Manhattan. Very satisfied with their management, everyone in both offices is great and always willing to answer your questions. Their pet policy is a little too uptight for me(they only allow small dogs and only 1 per unit) so I’ve had to leave my two other dogs back at my parents while I was at KSU. I do recommend that you clean the apartment that you rent from them very thoroughly– I feel like they keep a little too much of your deposit but overall, if you do what they ask you to do then you’ll get most of it back. Never really had an issue that wasn’t addressed or resolved in a timely manner. Definitely would recommend them for anyone that is upperclassmen(they do enforce their quiet hours which I totally agree with) so party people probably will not like these apartments. Their location is ideal so you don’t have to drive to campus and spend 3 hours finding parking. Overall, great experience with them!

I do not recommend McCullough Development. Our relationship was good until we called for a lockout, told we did not have to pay, and then conveniently slipped an invoice at 4:55 pm(just before the office closed) saying that the technician was incorrect. Rather than MDI taking responsibility for their error, they said it was our fault. While yes, I was willing to pay the fee, I also signed paperwork saying I didn’t have to. Obviously your word and paperwork did not matter in this instance. I am disappointed in leaving MDI with a bad taste in our mouth.

If I wasn’t so mad, this place would’ve received 4 stars from me because of the convenience of close by shopping areas and the staff is polite and pleasant. They, especially Kyle, even worked with us while we were deployed to Afghanistan to get an apartment set up and ready for our return which I thought was awesome. I was actually starting to genuinely like this place(Strasser Landing) until around December 2014. Before it would take a while to have anything fixed at this place. But I will just state my worst maintenance problem thus far. The dishwasher wasn’t draining water properly, it was draining the water onto the carpet which made it smell like the Chesapeake Bay that not even my bissel carpet cleaner could fix. The maintenance guy fixed it, but we were told too much food was being left on the dishes. Okay, took the slap on the wrist and went about our business. A few weeks later, it happens yet again. I haven’t smelt the Chesapeake Bay yet but I’m curious to see what we will be slapped on the hand for this time. On a side note, the maintenance guy is nice and wasn’t rude but polite with leaving his informative notes. Okay now that, that rant is over here’s another one. Friday afternoon right before the rental office closes, we receive a notification that they will be showing our apartment on Monday. I’m sitting here like ok, got it, 24hr notice(which is what all they’re required to give us), but they don’t even give you the courtesy of asking if it would fit our schedules or if we would like to be present for the viewing. My thing is, we have expensive items in our house(who doesn’t), who’s to say that the person viewing my house with MY belongings doesn’t have a hyper and/or rumbustious kid running around and breaks something of ours, let alone steals something and we are not there to witness or to account for it? I highly doubt anyone would give a rats a** if we noticed something wasn’t right when we got home and we would be sh*t out of luck. Not only that my husband will be bed ridden for about a month come February due to surgery. We were told that they will TRY to not schedule but they pretty much show whenever the customer wants(mind you this property won’t be available until May 15th). Okay, so you feel it is customary to have strangers visiting when there will be someone restricted to the bed unless it is to use the bathroom. Gotcha. You’d think they would have a model to show, but nope. I understand what we agreed to and what not, but I guess I just expected too much generosity from them as we are expecting our first child and things will already be hectic. Just a lesson learned. I’m sure they are just following the rules and not intentionally trying to make us feel uncomfortable, but we will see how things turn out when we sign out of this apartment. Just expect random strangers to be in and out of your home at least 5 months prior to you moving out.

Overall, my renting experience with McCullough has been the most positive out of all the landlords I’ve dealt with. The apartment was great, the rent was decent, considering everywhere else in town and any maintenance issues I had were taken care of within a reasonable amount of time. They are like clockwork with their spraying of bugs and changing of filters and they even came back to clean an area they know they missed when I checked in without any charges. The staff was friendly, and from my perspective, as long as you get your rent in on time there are no issues to be had. The only complaints I have are in regards to its pet policy and checkout. They charge you $ 25 dollar pet rent fee and half a months rent for a pet deposit, $ 150 of which constitutes a nonrefundable«pet privilege fee» which has no bearing on damage done by the pet, they just take that money. This constitutes a lot of money for a small animal, the way I see it, if this your way of saying you don’t like pets in your properties, then just don’t accept pets. In addition, like most properties, they will nickel and dime you for everything they can come check out. Having done previous interior work for contractors, the $ 220 they charged me in «damages», in reality should have cost me no more than $ 100. I objected but figured eventually that I got off light compared to other companies I’ve dealt with. All in all MDI has been a good experience. Pay your rent on time, take relatively good care of the place and things will go smoothly for you.

Scenic Woods Apartments is the worst apartment complex I have ever stayed in. If you love paying unnecessary fees and love getting the run around on things, then this place is for you. No, it’s not! I’m being sarcastic! First of all they are charging us $ 150 per month for my dog because he isn’t under their weight limit of 35 lbs or under. $ 150 a month is CRAZY!!! Even the most luxurious apartments I have stayed in do not charge this much! Then they tried saying we didn’t pay rent on time when in fact we did. It’s not my problem they don’t have their stuff together or that one of the leasing agents«probably threw it away». AREYOUKIDDINGME? Oh, but we can’t find proof that you dropped it off with our surveillance camera. I KNOW I did drop off my check and did my part. But the manager be like. «It’s your responsibility to make sure the rent is paid.» No, its my responsibility to make sure I pay rent on time and its your job to credit our account accordingly and not wait a whole week to give us a call saying we never got it. Kind of contradicting when the leasing agent herself says she might have threw it away but then say I never paid rent. Hmm ok! The property itself is poorly managed. When I first got here the grass was beautifully green and so well cut but did not stay like that for long. Dead long grass everywhere, other people’s dog crap everywhere, they run out of bags so quickly but take a century to refill them. They’re so quick to take your money but take forever to resolve a problem. By the way, thank you to the manager who said she was going to look into this mysterious rent check that never made it to their office but never called me back on it. If someone doesn’t give you a call back you would automatically assume its been taken care of. I would NOT recommend these at all! You’re better renting in the heart of Manhattan and get more for your buck than these ratchet apartments.

One of the worst landlords I have ever dealt with! The apartment complex that I lived in was really old and bad! The laundry room was a joke! Just only one laundry room in the entire complex for both buildings! This place doesn’t even deserve one star in its rating. Parking was an absolute nightmare! I remember sometimes coming home around 9PM from class to find no parking cuz people would have friends who would park in the parking lot or someone would park in the lot just to see someone across the street in the dorms. It was close to campus, but I wouldn’t stay here for any amount of money ro distance to campus.
