Olde Good Things

Scored a mirrored door from the legendary Plaza Hotel! Can’t wait to have this piece in my apartment. Staff – Bob and Chuck – were helpful and informative.

I hate to have to say it, but, Old good things steals antiques from customers.
Some time back an antique lampshade form a project of mine ended up in their hands.
I had a phone call confirming they had received the item.
Since then the lampshade has mysteriously vanished.
Frustratingly no one on staff will assist in locating it. In fact when I ask about it they laugh it off and tell me how messy the establishment is and how hard things are to find.
This is suspicious given that the lampshade is quite old and carries a hefty value
The irony is, when I was first came into the 16^th St. Location with my lampshade a young staff member was elated, almost uncomfortably so, that she had caught a shoplifter on camera, so elated she could barely focus on helping anyone else in the store. she gloated over catching the criminal in the act.
Sadly no such emotions were shown towards my stolen lampshade.
I would suggest you think twice before you engage with this establishment. If they are so quick to steal from returning customers who work in the same industry, I’m sure they’ll have no problem stealing from anyone else.
Not to mention the dismissive excuse of how «messy» the showroom is, and how they cant find anything… A clear indication of the work that is being produced.
I have tried several times to contact olde good things in hopes to retrieve my stolen lampshade but still no one is willing to give any effort.
Go to Stella Dallas, Build it Green, or the Internet you might have a better chance of not being robbed by Olde, shady, things…

Fantastic place to explore. Wonderful hardware selection. Staff can be hot or cold depending on who helps you. For the most part, it’s pricey, but worth a look-​see. Their truck driver was awesome. delivered all the way to Salt Lake City for me.

Perhaps the most grossly overpriced store in NYC. Beautiful things here… but it’s a museum not a store.

My wife and I had a great experience here and with one of their salespeople: Noelle. We’d been looking for an interesting and unique wooden dinner table but nothing quite felt right or fit our budget. We stumbled into OGT on a lazy Saturday afternoon with no real agenda and spent the next hour wading through an eclectic mix of lamps, sofas, desks, appliances, reclaimed furniture, hardware and voila !: wooden tables. So now we’re spending ANOTHER hour rummaging thru various sizes, shapes and woods (this from a guy who’s seriously NOT into rummaging). The selection, the range, the quality were all superb. Best of all, Noelle was right there helping us select wood, pedestals, surfaces — customizing our table. We ended up creating a round table with a base that came from an early 20^th century factory. Very cool. Noelle explained it would take at least a month to put everything together and she promised she’d touch base every step of the way to make sure we were happy. Sure enough we were contacted twice before the final delivery to discuss the color of the stain, the thickness and various particulars related to the pedestal. We were contacted once more to get an exact delivery date and, right on schedule, our table arrived — gingerly installed and reassembled in an hour. Great deal, great find, great experience !

If I had all the money in the world, I would bring a u-​haul truck and take a marble fireplace, a customized dining table, the leather tufted sofa near the entrance, a globe, a few mirrors, and vintage fan. This place has treasures but at a hefty pricetag, sadly.
One can only dream.

I’m not an antique guy, but happened to walk by this place and stopped in. The reclaimed wood tables are pretty spectacular. Lots of reclaimed hardware in the back — doorknobs, knockers, hinges and such.

I had a bad experience with a staff member. I called the boss and they called back straight away and really helped. I was hopping mad at first but Jim (manager) was a bastion of professionalism and really helped.
I was never going to shop there again but now I will.
Their stuff is great.

Really cool shop with antiques. So fun to look around.
Their custom made tables made from reclaimed wood and farm parts are really beautiful… if only I lived nearby so I could have one in my home!

So I am going to be «kind» and give the store people the benefit and go with they are just really creepy but not racist:
I stopped by here on the way to meet a friend, Just left of the entrance was a woman sitting on a bench. It was not immediately apparent that she was a worker as she smiled at me. She said «Hi» as I passed.
«Hello,» I greeted back.
«Have you been here before?» she asked.
(«What the… Do I need a referral? This is not a Pinkberry, there is no special way to buy antiques that I don’t know about» was my internal dialogue) «Nope» I grinned back.
«Did someone tell you about us?» she pressed.
(«Okay, seriously. What the f-​ck? Aren’t you just peddling antiquities. Is this some sort of front for a human trafficking ring? Do you not want me to shop here?)
«I just walked by and saw the sign» (You know the one that advertises you as business to the general public)
«Oh, ok» she responded. (OK indeed)
Aside from that, this place has tons of interesting relics. But, many of which you can find cheaper elsewhere and with better company.

I’m not a big fan of antiques, but this store takes the stuffiness out and leaves the cool in. Always something new & interesting to discover.
Tip: If you’re looking for an antique doorknob, this is the place for you.

I really like wandering into this store and looking around, when I’m in the neighborhood.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing in here I can afford, but it’s good to know that there is a store for me should I ever need an antique door knob or a key of a certain make. Or if I needed a big statue or chandelier of some kind, that Olde Good Things will be there for me.

If your in the Village or Union Square, I know you guys have seen the flatbed truck that has a lot of antique furniture. There is also statue of a pink elephant and a roaring lion. I have seen this dozens of times. I didn’t know that this was store nearby.
I came in with a friend and we took a look around. They have one of a kind and very unique items. Things that caught my eye were the original light fixtures from Terminal 8 in the JFK Airport. They were huge. They also have windows from the Flatiron Building for sale as well.
If you have the money and is currently redecorating your home. I definitely insist that you check this place out.

Pretty cool store, a gem found while randomly wandering. They had a truck a block over with carnival-​looking antiques in it, definitely piqued my interest.
Upon entering, found some very cool items for sale — as it is an antiques store in Manhattan some were definitely expensive, but they had some really cool items I was definitely considering — even old painted tin wallcoverings at pretty good prices ($ 35 for 11″ x 11″). If you’re in the area, check it out, definitely worth a looksie.
