One Day University

One Day University is amazing. Previous reviewers seem to have had different experiences but the school has completely revamped and it’s no longer affiliated with whatever previous institutions it was with before like the Learning Annex. It’s completely separate now and the quality and talent of the visiting professors that lecture are amazing.
I have gone to several of their lectures and enjoyed every single one of them.
I attended a 3 hour lecture on «What Makes Great Music Great? Five Unforgettable Masterpieces» (which btw were the Brandenburg Concertos by Bach, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart, Kind of Blue by Miles Davis and I Just Saw a Face by the Beatles — I was surprised that it wasn’t Yesterday by the Beatles but the professor went through his whole thinking process in choosing I Just Saw a Face). I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture and it was a very enthusiastic, energetic crowd that attended with me.
I attended their full day lecture series on January 21^st where they had several visiting professors presenting at the Marriott Hotel on Sixth Ave. They had a wonderful selection of professors lecturing on a wide range of topics — I attended «The Psychology of Good and Evil» with Paul Bloom from Yale, «How to Think Like a Philosopher» with Tamar Gendler from Yale, «Understanding How Memory Works» with John Stein from Brown and «Two Films Every Movie Lover Should See» with Marc Lapadula from Yale. I mean, I was blown away by the professors, their lectures were amazing, rivoting, fun and just packed with incredible information — I learned so much from their presentations. The calibur of the guest lecturers is just mind-​blowing and I can’t think of any other way I’d have any exposure to these great minds and great teachers. There was a huge crowd there and the Marriott was a really nice venue, plenty of room for everyone.
And last week I attended a lecture on «How to Make Better Decisions» with Robert Frisch who has lectured at Harvard, Yale and is published in the Harvard Business Review. His lecture was amazing and probably the one that I’ve attended that I’ve walked away with the most practical information. It was presented at the Graduate Center in Midtown. Another great location.
I would highly recommend any of the lectures/​presentations offered by One Day University, I’m definitely planning on attending more events they hold in the future and it’s such a great way to get exposure to talented and interesting professors and lecturers that I would normally never get a chance to hear from.
