Paul Kempisty, L.Ac

Paul is an incredibly gifted healer. His knowledge is prolific, not only of the healing modalities he practices but of the many traditions, studies and fads that most of us are too overwhelmed to sift through. His skill was immediately apparent during our initial consultation as he identified all of my health and personal challenges and explained some basic principles of TCM with depth, clarity, patience and a wicked sense of humor. In the months we have been working together, my physical symptoms have improved to an extent I had previously only dreamed possible, and which has been accompanied even more joyously by a subtly profound shift and realignment of energy.
For all his wisdom, Paul remains immensely humble and compassionate. I am eternally grateful to have encountered a teacher of his kind in my lifetime.

I have been a patient for years, and Paul is out of ordinary, as you can see by the long list of 5 star review… He solved my back problems and he got my energy levels on balance (I used to have a crash of energy every afternoon, which was very bad). He is clearly born as a healer, and he is such a kind and enlighten person.

I went to Paul with a laundry list of mild physical complaints (including mild Crohn’s disease) that western medicine wasn’t helping with much. After several months of weekly treatments, most symptoms are nearly gone. But the most dramatic example of his skill occurred during an acute back episode. I could barely move without pain, despite taking Tylenol with Codeine and Flexeril. After one specialized treatment, I woke up the next day virtually pain free and was shocked. He is truly a gifted practitioner.

I’ve been going to Paul regularly for around 6 years now and can honestly say he’s amazing. He takes the time to discuss why you are there and truly cares about you. I always walk out of there on cloud nine.

While I was pregnant with my second child I experienced horrible, debilitating back pain. I could hardly walk and when I did I felt like an elephant was sitting on my lower back. I was desperate for relief. At a friend’s suggestion, I went to see Paul for my first acupuncture experience. I was skeptical at first as the most chinese medicine I’ve ever had is green tea! I cannot say enough kind things about Paul, my experience and, most importantly, the results. Within several weekly treatments I felt so much better. It was incredible. I was able to enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy relatively pain free. Then at around 34 weeks, we discovered that my baby was breached. UGH! I really wanted to avoid a C-​Section. Paul treated me once again and the day before my scheduled version at the OB, baby flipped!!! Head down and ready to go. Several weeks later, I had a speedy labor and almost delivered my baby in a taxi cab. Maybe it was all that acupuncture! Who knows?!

Paul truly understands the practice of treating the whole person. He listens intently to your story, examines you with care and carefully explains his observations, how they related to Chinese Medicine and how a treatment may be designed. My experience was transforming: he helped to dislodge a pervasive sense of stagnation, and restored much needed sense of balance to my whole being. His approach is light and humorous; you never feel like you are being dragged into a swamp of mystic gobbledygook. Highly recommend.

I am no rookie to acupuncture. For all the practitioners I’ve visited over the course of my life, many of whom are well-​regarded, I can comfortably say without any hesitation that Paul possesses superior skill to all of them. In fact, it’s not even close. What has taken other acupuncturists several sessions to work out, Paul, a consummate professional, has often been able to get the job done in a single session. He’s also a pretty cool dude. My only reservation in writing this review is that by spreading the word about this miracle worker it may become harder to get an appointment on demand. Regardless, the truth is the truth.

I received three acupuncture treatments from Paul over 2.5 years ago when I threw my back out in yoga. It is true what they say; don’t compare yourself to others in the class and push yourself too hard! I figured that any western doctor would just give me painkillers so I decided to give acupuncture a try. Two of my friends are regular clients of Paul so he was able to slot me in on the same day that I twisted my lower back and could barely move. I hobbled over and when he saw me, he said, «I can tell that you’re Audrey already by the way you’re walking!» He proceeded to give me a very thorough consultation, followed by an intensely relaxing acupuncture and aromatherapy session. It took two sessions for the pain to go away completely and we did a third for good measure; all were enjoyable and most importantly, effective. I practice yoga more regularly now than I did a few years ago and have since never had a back problem.
I’m writing this review now because after two years, I called Paul to see if he had a recommendation for an acupuncturist in San Francisco as my brother was interested in seeing one. I left him a message and he texted back shortly as he was on a house call, saying he didn’t know anyone personally but would send an SOS out to his alumni network. That evening, he emailed me with the contact details of a former professor of his, who is now based in Berkeley. I’m very pleased with how prompt he was in his response, even though I’m not a regular client. After my sessions with him, he called back two weeks and a month afterwards to follow up. And this was him personally calling, not a receptionist.
I can’t recommend him highly enough to anyone who wants to give acupuncture a try. He doesn’t take insurance and isn’t inexpensive, but for me, never feeling shooting pain up my spine again is well worth the few hundred I paid.
