Yes, it’s a rap show about Darwinian evolution. You’ll be presented with charts, numbers, science videos, and yes, rap. He has a real talent to blend the boring stuff with music, and make the entire experience entertaining.
Go with an open mind. Definitely recommend.

The Rap Guide to Evolution is an incredibly funny, educational, and brilliant off-​Broadway show. I did the audacious thing of bringing a date who does not like rap music and she loved it. You can see the pain, sweat, and tear that Baba Brinkman went through to craft this wonderful show and make it entertaining for the masses. Looking forward to seeing his next show which is the Canterbury Tales Remixed.

Awesome awesome show. I initially thought it was about the hip hop genre itself, but was positively surprised about it being on evolution, using hip hop as the medium. So damn clever! and executed brilliantly. Not an easy thing to write verses, or rhyme to! but Baba Brinkman could and I’m not sure anyone else could for that matter — not even Jay, but maybe KRS though lol. Anyways, Mr. B really gets into it, which gets the crowd into it, and gets you thinking in ways you hadn’t before. So not only was it entertaining, it was indeed intellectually stimulating to where you’re talkin to the seat next to you and saying stuff like ‘oh snaps’ and ‘werd’. He even fields questions, asks feedback, and then freestyles on the exchanges! that’s brilliant, sheer talent! The DJ was his teammate on stage, and although he didn’t speak a word, his beats were well choreographed with the show, mixing the popular tunes with his own beats. Great job. What was also a pleasant surprise, was the range in ages of the audience members, I was ‘wavin my hands in the air’ with grandmas and grandpas who were laughing just as loud as me and following his rhymes. Awesome to that. Werd.

I highly urge anyone who is intellectually curious to go see this show.
Hats off to this 2 member team. I don’t know much about rap, but I do know this much: it’s gotta be hard to rap about Darwin’s theory of evolution, even when you’re prepared, leave alone the ad-​libbing he does at the end.
Don’t go thinking this is just a rap show, it’s more like education and entertainment rolled into one. This sorta has the value of that professor in college you wish you had. Someone who’d keep you engaged through the session and make you go,“omigosh, that makes so much sense now!” and «oh no, you mean this lesson is over?».
Okay I won’t undersell it — it’s not like it’s all work and no fun. The guy is funny as hell and will keep you laughing in the show. He does have some opinions and is not afraid to express it, so have an open mind. What’s best, he is around to chat after the show and seems like a super nice person.
If you like to have a fun time and learn something new, do go.

Glancing through my Time Out New York on the plane, I glanced at The Rap Guide to Evolution, of course, in my mind, I wanted it to be rap music’s evolution, boy was I surprised when I quickly realized it’s about Evolution. Oh. Snap.
Get your smarty pants on, this is a Darwin’s Evolution Guide for Dummies. It’s entertaining for everyone. I am drinking the Kool-​aid.

This Off-​Broadway show is entertaining and a witty one man performance.
Brinkman’s non-​stop high-​energy presentation just held my attention from start to finish.
I did not know what to expect from this show. Even the name «Rap Guide to Evolution» title did not give me a good sense of what was coming.
It does make logical sense at the end!
See it and be surprised.

I enjoyed the performance very much. Entertaining, educational and engaging. Baba is smart and talented. Jamie Simmonds provides great musical accompaniment and the visuals were great. BUT It felt a bit long towards the end. I’d give 5 stars in exchange if it was 15 minute shorter.

Baba is a smart man, no question about it. His insight does right by the curious intellectual. However, if you are a hip hop head, you’ll find his rhymes and style corny at best. While his DJ throws down some nice beats, he doesn’t make great use of them. Thankfully, I was intellectually stimulated enough to get some enjoyment out of it. This show leans more on the education side than the entertainment side. It’s certainly clever, and Baba will make you think, but it might be better if it were written by Baba, the intellect, and performed by someone who is more of a lyricist. And, it would work wonders if that someone gave Baba some tips on what makes a good rhyme, versus what stimulates the mind.

Baba Brinkman and Jamie Simmonds give an extraordinary performance that never fails to astonish. This is entertainment at its best. You go away with an expanded mind and infected with really great music. Hip Hop the way it is meant to be — a revelation!

I went into this not knowing what to expect. I walked out wanting more. The Rap Guide to Evolution is a brilliant display of the evolutionary theory. It was fun and easy to follow. It is apparent that Baba is well versed in what he’s rapping. He was able to answer audience questions with perfection. It truly was a fun show and it was neat to see something like evolution compared to rap. I mean really, who comes up with that?

smart, fun, funny, cool, hip, rocking… and um… so so smart. The visuals are fantastic, Baba is a magnetic performer, i learned a ton and it was fun! Really, this show isn’t just entertaining, or enjoyable, it packs an important and smart message about the human race’s past, and future. Take your parents… take your kids!

Wonderful entertainment that makes you laugh, tickles your brain and leaves you feeling like you just saw something very creative and a lot more interesting than anything on Broadway. Go see Baba Brinkman, a one man show that you won’t forget.

A great combination of funny, random, and forcing me to use my brain. Baba is a true one-​man show with a strong flow, definitely brings the audience along with him on a 90-​minute ride. If you detest or don’t understand rap at all this is probably not the show for you, as you won’t understand what he is saying or what’s happening. But if you like rap, like something a little different on stage, and are open minded then this show is for you.
Tiny random bar in the basement. And item of note for my tall brothers — make sure to get aisle seats, this 6’8″ guy could have never sat inside — if you are long of leg, make sure to sort it out.
