We recently went here to attend one of the European Book Club discussions. We met in a spacious room on the second floor. Unfortunately, the city was seeing record high temperatures at the time with humidity levels to match. The old fashioned air conditioners hanging on the window sills of the room were simply not enough to fight against the encroaching heat. The discussion, while engaging, was ultimately overcome by the weather, with one of the elderly ladies having to leave quite early on for fear of passing out in the heat. Under normal climate conditions though, I am sure the room is a bit more habitable. Aside from the discussion, I did like the enthusiasm of the director and the prominent advertising of future events. I really felt there was a passion for all things Romanian here, and the interest was contagious. Also, it looked like there is a healthy mix of things to do occurring regularly enough that the center is worth visiting again and again. I just wish the government of Romania would spring for centralized air conditioning.
