Great option in the neighborhood for a more«elevated», yet casual meal. Mussels are well prepared with a flavorful broth, and the portion is generous(more than enough to share as appetizer and even enough to be a potential entrée for someone). However, they only give 2 meager pieces of delicious crusty, grilled bread(which is critical for enjoying mussels!) so you’ll have to request more. Lobster mac and cheese is a little dry/light on the cheese and cream for my taste, but some people prefer a «healthier» version I suppose. The noodles are prepared with a generous amount of black and/or white pepper so it’s also very peppery, which I like. Finally, they have a fantastic beer selection.

Came here because I had a $ 25 coupon. The place is cute and the menu is small but solid. We got the sauteed shrimp which were AMAZING. The sauce and the dipping bread were so good we had to get more bread. I would just order that and a beer for a snack. They have a lot of good craft beers on tap in the $ 7 — $ 10 range, so definitely on the pricier side. The burger was delicious, perfectly cooked, juicy. I had a surf and turf special of filet mignon and lobster which ran at a very reasonable $ 25. Dinner for 3 took about 2 hours because there is only 1 waitress and service was slow. If you have time to spare and are with a small group, this place is a great neighborhood spot. Check out their deal for sure! I will be back for their oysters and champagne happy hour.

My Husband and I have been here several times since it first opened as we live on the same block. When they first opened they only had a select menu with tapas but we really enjoyed the tuna tartare. Now they have an amazing menu and we loove the scallops and grits. They are off the hook amazing. One time we went in there with our parents and they served us early even though we were there before dinner was to be served. We are excited to try their new additions to the menu that we just found out about.

Great restaurant! Food was delicious. Had tasty scallop cerviche then ½ chicken with barley risotto. Daughter had Vegetable Frutille– both delicious! We were there on Thursday night, live music, attentive and pleasant service. Highly recommend!

These fellows are good and they know it — which is why they’re on the pricey side even though they’re way uptown. But essentially they could compete with any of the super-trendy New American places in the Village. Mussels were a rave, and the pork belly an absolute winner. Good wine selection too, and we rolled off feeling full & happy as can be…

We had the most amazing brunch here, I was so happy that I took photos of the meal! I had the grilled cheese and soup, which was amazing. I would kill for that RIGHTNOW, actually! So good. Shane had the french toast special, which was beautiful, and was completely devoured. We were actually here on 9/11, participating in an event down the street. The place wasn’t very busy, and the staff was great. On this recent trip to NYC, this experience at this restaurant was my favorite moment. Thank you!

We stopped in here just as they were closing, and when the bartender, Mimi, told us that she couldn’t give us the Craft Brew Week discount because it was over, we protested. She bet us that if she was right, we’d leave, if we were right, we could get any beer we wanted for $ 3. We were right, and fell completely in love with the place. The beer selection is just spectacular, and Mimi really knows her stuff. Some of it is expensive, but this is really top-of-the-line drinking, and they had beers that are nearly impossible to import. A fun, super friendly staff guarantee that we’ll be back. I can’t wait to try the happy hour specials and some of their food!

A happy hour with half a dozen oysters and a glass of champagne for $ 10…heck yea! Oh wait… you ran out of oysters? BOO! The happy hour is from 4p-7p and then again from 10p-12a. Happy hour includes $ 3 domestic bottles, $ 5 house wines, half price draughts, the $ 10 oysters and champagne, and $ 1 thai curry wings. Once I got over the hurt of not being able to get the oysters I ended up getting the fried misto which was lightly fried shrimp and calamari with a really nice aioli. My friend got the half portion of the butternut squash and mushroom risotto. Both were good and were nice choices in appetizers. Service was good and they’re very attentive. I’ll def be back earlier in the day next time so I can get those oysters!

One of the places I would have liked to give 3.5… Came for a weekday dinner and the place was kind of empty. The staff was very nice and attentive, and the menu is great. We shared a bottle of wine which was recommended by the waiter and definitely worth the money. Somehow the food was a little of though. My friend ordered the fried chicken burger and we were both kind of turned of by it — it was just not that crunchy, and the spices they used were somewhat overpowering. I had a salad that was fine, but nothing special for the money. We split a chocolate mouse for dessert and both loved it! I live here, and I will definitely be back for happy hour to give them another chance — mainly because the people where so nice.

When I review a place, I review it for potential and possibilities, not just to report my existential happiness or angst. The first time I entered this establishment, months ago, it was because someone I knew was working there. As a single person who dines alone most times, I like going to places where I can feel comfortable as a single patron while getting friendly yet professional service. I got the friendly service, but found it a bit uncomfortable to cosy up to the bar(the single person’s fave place to dine,) when there is no separation between table and bar area. Restaurant owners should know by now that bar areas need to be at least esthetically separate from traditional eating areas and are the ultimate source of your survival income, and so should be taken quite seriously. This bar is wine and beer only. Alas, wine and beer are not something my sensitive digestive system can handle much of, and they do not yet have a regular liquor license. Forgoing a cocktail, I perused the menu and found it to be heavy on the side of nightshades, carbs, and dairy … again, not conducive to my particular circumstances. I left dissatisfied, but still hungering to return there as it is a quiet, pleasant place where quality food and drink appear to matter. And if you are not aware, quiet, pleasant places on Amsterdam are rare. I re-entered The Neighborhood today because I had a peculiar craving for a glass of wine; odd, considering my normal intolerance. As I approached the restaurant, I was unsure if they were even open. A small sandwich sign in front gave me the clue that perhaps they were, but it was not until I tried the door and opened it, was I sure. Even then, the place was empty and I had to ask, «Are you open?» If the customers on the street cannot tell that you are open as they pass by? They are likely to pass by. I mention all of this because I want the restaurant to survive. It has a lovely wine selection, an eclectic beer selection, and a changed menu that reflects the owners attempt to find the right mix without degrading quality. It appears to get diners for the traditional dinner period, but outside of that time, it is far too bereft of customers. It should be full for the 5:00 de-stress period that so many workers need and it should be pleasantly lively for the post-dinner hour. Why then, is it empty? Is there an advertising failure? Is it simply because it is hard to tell if the place is open? Is it because the bar is not separate from dining? Not sure … but I hope they figure it out, because we need The Neighborhood in this neighborhood. I cannot give much input on the food, but based upon the light, spicy, fruity, green curry wings I tasted … they still do care very much about serving real, delicious food. Food made without love, tastes like a diner. Food made with love, can make your day.

We live a block away and always passed by this place. One night we ventured in and it was a delight! The beers that we had were amazing and due to their great selection we were able to try a variety throughout the night. Their wine was also very good(I had a rose) but the glass was fairly empty for the price I paid. The service was good, the lady was very warm and had great energy. The food was very good. I had the grassfed burger, my boyfriend had the fried chicken and his friend had the duck burger. They were all outstanding my only complaint would be the salad they served on the side. It didn’t have any dressing and consisted of lettuce, that’s all. Not very great ambiance if you are sitting by the windows but inside is very tasteful. A great place to eat in the neighborhood.

I was pretty skeptical about this place when I first saw it being built during the winter. I expected it to be another terrible UWS bar with horrible food and frat-house ambience. Surprisingly, it has turned out to be a rather lovely place, with a warm, almost rustic atmosphere(probably because of all the french windows). I have only tried two of their food items, the grass-fed/organic burger and the mussels, but they were both really very good. I took my in-laws and a few other friends here for a semi family reunion, and we were all very well taken care of – even though we really only ordered wine and beer. At the end of the night, the waiter surprised us with a round of beer on the house. This, of course, was awesome because their beer selections were very intriguing. However, the wine cocktails were a bit too sweet for my taste and left me craving a «real» drink. I only wish they’d serve liquor – or at least just Campari! nevertheless, The Neighborhood is definitely a welcomed addition to the area!

Stopped by here after a couple unsuccessful attempts to find a bar with a less than 1 hour wait on the UWS on a Friday night. Boy were we pleasantly surprised! Though the $ 5 wine at happy hour was tempting, the curious list of imported Belgium beers(definitely not the standard selection) caught my eye. I ordered a Kwak — which came in a unique glass — and had a wonderfully refreshing taste. The appetizers were fantastic. We ordered 2 truffle and wild mushroom pizzas to share amongst 3 girls, and it was absolutely delicious — strong truffle taste, soft and slightly salty baked dough, and tasty mushrooms. Though this was meant to be just a short after-work drink, we ended up also ordering the irresistible-sounding pistachio cinnamon bread pudding with crème fraîche(and thank the lord for that moment of self-indulgence). Waiters were attentive and friendly and overall ambiance was great!

Went to this new UWS addition last night with a large group. Very attentive staff, good beer and wine list. We started with a meat and cheese platter, pretty good, enough for 2 people, and the lamb meatballs — really good. For an entrée I had the DLT which was very good, nice crunchy bits with tender and savory meat on a bun. I also tried the bolognese which was fine, nothing extra ordinary. We shared a few of the desserts. I thought the apple tart was good, the bread pudding(special) was very good and the crème brûlée was very tasty. I enjoyed my meal and thought Neighborhood is a great addition!

I can’t believe that people are giving this place less than 5 stars?! I went there with my friend on Saturday night and had a fabulous time! Our bartender was an absolute doll and really cared about finding the perfect wine for us. The wait staff was there to please and the food was amazing. I will definitely be back to the Neighborhood!

My wife and I went to check out this new place on a Sat. night. Overall, it was just okay, with very few selections on the menu. It does have a good beer selection, and the beer I chose was pretty good. However, the Syrah my wife wanted to try didn’t come in a glass, so the host chose another glass of wine for her, said to be similar to a Syrah, which was not the case. The waitress recommended the spicy mussel special, which we ordered as a shared appetizer. The dish was suppose to be spicy, which was not, as the sauce was bland and tomato like than spicy. The mussels were not tasty, and over 1⁄3 of them were not fully cooked, as their shells weren’t open. We were very disappointed at the dish and complained, and the waitress was apologetic. Even thought we didn’t ask for it, the restaurant comped mussels. We ordered the filet mignon and the pappardelle for dinner. The pappardelle was too tomatoey and the pork was dry. The filet was a bit overcooked and stringy, but it was at least tasty and flavorful. The vegetables were the best part of the dish. We didn’t order dessert. Overall, I would have given it only 2 stars if the mussels weren’t comped. I doubt we’ll go back again.

I’ve stopped by this place twice after work during the past 3 weeks. Unfortunately, the stove was not working on both occasions, so I seem to have missed out sorely on the more extensive menu items that are raved about in the previous reviews. However, I’d like to comment that service was very friendly and the cheese board was pretty good. I’ll have to update this review at a later date since the restaurant is in full swing.
