The Paint Place

Cary is such a great and patient instructor. The class was fairly large but he managed to be attentive to each and everyone there. I am not the best when it comes to art but he made me feel totally comfortable. I will definitely attend another class.

I purchased a Groupon and went with a friend. I had such a great time. The studio was so nice and very welcoming. The easels weren’t too crowded and there was plenty of room to comfortably paint. Blake was so welcoming and friendly. He gave such good direction and was an fun instructor. I have taken other classes like these and have gotten very little direction from the instructor, resulting in some not great results. Blake made sure everyone understood each step and came around to check on us as we painted. The music he played was fun and I caught a few us singing along as we painted. I would definitely come back to this studio. My final painting came out great!

I went there on a Saturday night with other 6 people. It was really a nice experience and we had a lot of fun. It’s especially fun to do with friends and to compare your final masterpiece.
Definitely going back.

What an amazing place. Whether you have some or no artistic ability… in 2 hours I guarantee you will have a masterpiece that will leave you proud and satisfied. The staff is wonderful… they will walk you through your project step by step. I recommend the Paint your Pet class. Don’t forget to bring your favorite beverage of choice. ;)

The dedicated space was well planned out. Easels, canvases and brushes at the ready. Our selected image was handed out on small cards for reference. Brilliant idea! The music on Pandora allowed my friends and I to add the element of karaōke to the afternoon. Cups and wine openers also helped to make the imbibing flow. Cary, our instructor moved us along at a great pace and by the end, we all had a wonderful finished picture. I plan to be back and bring more friends each time.

This is an update to a review I did 2 months ago and I’m happy to report that this is still a great 2 hour activity! I went last night and Cary was my instructor for the Banksy girl with balloon painting. Since I can barrel draw a straight line I was a little skeptical at how this would go but surprisingly it went really well! Another fun laid back experience and this time there was a cheese/​cracker/​fruit platter which paired great with the wine I had brought. I will definitely be going back and would highly recommend to anyone!

My experience at The Paint Place was definitely worth the Monet.
Cary the Instructor was extremely helpful. He answered Manet questions and helped all of the students.
My girlfriend and I loved it. We will definitely Van Gogh again

The instructor was nice and patient with everyone there; he also was a willing cameraman for my friend and I. It was really fun painting. Be aware that the paint can be a permanent stain if it gets on your clothes.

The Paint Place is simply amazing and so relaxing!

Paint and sip… oh yes! I was a little nervous walking into The Paint Place because I do not have artsy hands. But our instructed, Johnny, was great and ensured me several times that I will do great. He was so patient and went step by step. And was always willing to help. My finish product was beautiful.
Johnny was very welcoming. The studio is very nice. It’s BYOB. Sip while you paint amazing!

We went on a Sat night for a 5pm class. It wasn’t full — only about 12 – 14 people which was really nice. Cary was our instructor and he was great and fun. The room has good lighting, and he played some good playlists while we painted. You can still BYOB and I found it much more enjoyable as compared with paint nights in pubs/​bars!
Would recommend.

So I’ll start off by saying I have ZERO artistic abilities, especially when it comes to painting, but this class makes it very easy to follow. Blake, the instructor, was awesome. He provided bottle openers, a refrigerator, water, and all the paints supplies. You start with a blank canvas which scared me but when your finished, you’re amazed at what you created. Definitely a great time. Byob. You can talk and relax and feel like an artist. We did the brooklyn bridge which sounds hard but it was very simple. Can’t wait to go back and see what other paintings I can do! Definitely a good spot to bring family or friends.

I purchased a Groupon for my sister and I to try this Paint Nite that everyone has been talking about. We absolutely loved it. It is such a great experience even for people that cannot do a stick figure justice lol Our instructor Tommy was great. He really guided us through it and we could not believe the results. I would def do this again and highly recommend it. Oh and you can bring beer or wine as you paint. What is there not to love?

Purchased a Groupon for here and went with a friend for a Paint Night on a Sunday.
The place is located on the 2^nd floor of an apartment building. It is very cute inside and nicely decorated. The staff is super friendly and they play great music while you paint.
We were able to bring a bottle of wine and they provided the cups which was a plus. The instructor took her time and made things super easy.
They allow you to blow dry your painting at the end if you are in a hurry to leave and they put your painting in a protective bag. The bag came in super handy because it down poured once we got out and my painting was completely protected.
I love my painting and found the whole experience fun and relaxing. I would definitely do it again!

I’ve been to The Paint Place twice and loved both experiences! It’s amazing how fast 2 hrs passes by when you’re having fun! One of my paintings came out great and the other was good (at no fault of the instructor). Pick your choice of painting wisely, and don’t automatically go for the «easy» paintings! Super fun night and BYOB! (cups, corkscrew provided). My instructor/​artist, Chris, made the class really easy to follow. Great advice and instruction! My only complaint was that it was 80 degrees that day and the A/​C was not cool enough, so it was really warm in the studio.
Note: The Paint Place is a studio painting place, not like those «other» places, which hold their painting classes in bars/​restaurants. In my opinion, the studio paintings are MUCH better than the bar/​restaurants. The lighting and space in the studios make for a much better painting, and they never run out of paint/​brushes since they are all in the studio. I once went to a bar painting event, and they didn’t even have enough brushes for everyone… inexcusable! (how are you supposed to paint while sharing a paint brush!!!) LOL
Can’t wait to go back! Oh, they also have a «punch card»…you get a punch for each painting you do and after 5 «punches», you get a free class! My regret: I’ve been there twice, and both times, forgot to get a punch card!!! Gggrrrr! So don’t forget to get yours! :D

I think this experience was lost on me. Not because of the class itself but due to a combination of my attention span and my extreme inexperience with painting, I was not totally pleased. My friend obtained a half-​priced Groupon deal for two hours of what I thought would be fun but ended up being an exercise in apathy. This is essentially a step-​by-​step BYOB painting class in a small apartment with a gifted instructor (her education was impressive) and a paper plate of small amounts of primary color paint.
I was told that we were going to emulate «Saint-​Georges majeur au crépuscule» by Claude Monet (
). The actual painting process was less «paint by numbers» and more of a «keep making lines across the canvas» until it resembles the original piece.
I appreciated the instructor’s efforts but to my friend’s utter shock (considering the vast amount of museums I have visited), I had never painted nor taken a painting class, so I found something as simple as applying a brush stroke complex. Therefore, the instructor’s advice would have been more useful had she suggested how to actually make brush strokes or hold the brush. In this class, as in life, I pressed hard, so my painting was less Impressionistic and more like a small mountain range that was rising up to meet me. I ran out of paint in the first forty minutes of a two hour class.
I did my best to turn out what I could, but I think I lost interest by hour two and floated onto Unilocal Talk, as I had quickly realized that I had minimal artistic acumen. My ennui notwithstanding, the instructor gave me constructive feedback and spoke about artists with a similar aesthetic to mine (I do not know if these were good artists). Regardless, the majority of the other class members seemed to have fun, this activity was conceptually unique and although I would not attend a class here again, in retrospect I may have enjoyed it more had I been inebriated. I was not too pleased with my final product but my mother sure appreciated it. Thank you Paint Place.

Came here for a team building event with my co workers. I have to admit this is much better than going out to dinner with co workers and talking about work. Our team was much more focused on painting! Our group had booked the entire studio for a 2 hour session, we started at 5pm and finished around 730, another group was coming in at 8.
Small space on the second floor, above a dry cleaners, a short distance from the subway. You are able to bring your own beverages of choice and light foods, not meant to have an entire dinner here. They provided plastic cups and napkins for us.
Came in and everyone has painters anxiety, our fabulous instructor, Jane assured us that we can paint! Step by step she guided us through the painting. The paint dries super fast, and they provide plastic bags to take your artwork home in! The one warning that she does give is that the paint does not come out of your clothing.
A tip jar is there for the instructor, so bring cash, the instructors do rely on tips to supplement their income!
This is a great place to come and release your inner artist.

I got a deal for this on groupon and it was the perfect date night. It’s something really different and fun. The place has a BYOB policy and provides corkscrews, plastic cups, and water. The walls are covered with paintings that instructors teach and chalk art.
The instructor we had, Jane was amazing-​hilarious, a little zany, and super friendly. I have always been terrible at painting, and so is my boyfriend, but she led us to create a pretty beautiful art piece! She walks you through step by step and lets you know about certain problems that people often have so that if you run into them when you start, you’ll know what to do. She also made sure everyone could personalize their piece by offering different background colors, flower colors, and teaching you how to create pieces that could connect.
At the end she graciously offers to take your photo with your painting and gives you a plastic bag for you to take your piece home. She is also really helpful while you’re painting and makes you feel like an artist!
In the end, I think the pricing was perfect-​if you were to buy two canvases, different size brushes, and 4 or 5 different paint colors at a store, it would have cost you much more than the price of this lesson-​and the lesson comes with an instructor. Jane was incredible and we had an absolute blast! We gave her a generous tip and she totally earned it.

We went here in January for a «winter in Central Park» painting tutorial led by Cary and I was extremely impressed by the caliber and warmth of our instructor. He provided a lot of personal attention but did not hover, and even gave us a fun analysis of our personality based on our brushstrokes.
This is a little pricey without a deal, but I see it on livingsocial frequently which makes it worth it!
