History

Established in 2009.

The Puppet Kitchen was founded by three puppet designers builders/​performers sharing a studio space in a converted kitchen in Manhattan’s East Village. The three «Head Chefs» Eric, Emily, and Michael quickly discovered that by incorporating and working together they could deliver bigger and better puppets for all kinds of media. Now years later their list of clients includes: The Disney Channel, Walt Disney World, Royal Caribbean, Chorion Entertainment, The Public Theater, and Twisted Pixel Games to name a few.

I went to Puppet Kitchen a few months ago with my mom. We had so much fun with Michael and his 2 interns. They were all very friendly and helpful, as well as patient. We love our puppets so much. They’re so cute and it was such a fun day. We walked home with our puppets on our hands and everyone was smiling. makes me feel I should do that more often! I highly recommend coming here & I plan to come back to make another puppet one day. Great for people of all ages!

I couldn’t stop smiling for at least an hour after I left The Puppet Kitchen with my new yellow pseudo-​piratey friend in tow. It was such a fun, sweet experience and the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Our puppet master teacher Michael was awesome and funny and helped us all shepherd a fun new crowd of puppets into the world — they even all sang Happy Birthday at the end. Everyone should do this, and if you’re not super goofy happy at the end I’m pretty sure you’re not human.

Puppet Kitchen is amazing!!!
A group of us went for my friends b-​day, and we all had a great time! The instructors were awesome and really fun, they teach you how to do everything step by step, and give you a little tour and some interesting stories about their shop.
I wish I could do the workshop every night.
Seriously fun.
And I’m completely in love with my puppet.

I came here with my boyfriend and made hand puppets. The instructor was wonderful and we had a great time! Our puppets were really cute when they were finished and made a great gift for my nephew’s first birthday The instructions are clear, but they give you a lot of creative freedom to make your puppet any way you want. It was fun to see the different ideas the rest of the class came up with. OVerall, it was a joy to go and I would certainly recommend a visit. Fun way to spend your afternoon!

Absolutely wonderful.
The Puppet Kitchen was a magical place, surrounded by puppets and puppet-​making tools.
My group took the Pupit Workhip where we received precut fur and mouthplate, and with some sewing and gluing, turned it into a loveable hand puppet. The fun part was customizing with eyes, noses, felt, fur, etc to give our creations personality. It was so fun to watch others being creative and a little silly. Most of people at the workshop did not know each other beforehand, but by the end, everyone was buzzing around, happy, and coveting his/​her puppet like a most prized possession!
Can’t say enough great things about the staff. Our puppet chef Melanie was so friendly and very patient with us grownup kids. Brendan who i dealt with to arrange the private workshop for my Meetup group was so easy to work with.
I am definitely coming back.

This is a wonderful, fun, unconventional place. It has a little bit of everything. I had such a great time. I learned how to sew a bit, put things together and they really allow you to get creative. They also support your ideas and do everything they can to make your dream puppet come to life. They are so fabulous, I cannot praise them highly enough. A little bit of history, a little practical knowledge, a lot of creativity and tons of fun and support. The staff are so wonderful and patient, they treat everyone with respect and they treat everyone as though they have the best ideas in the world. They are so fantastic and I can’t encourage you to try these workshops enough. I personally attended Pup-​It, and I hope I get the opportunity to go again! It was a really fun V-​day idea.

i had such a blast doing their puppet workshop! i’m getting a group together to do it again! the instruction was very straightforward with lots of encouragement to get creative and silly with it to create a character out of your puppet. i have always been into puppets and it was so great to build my own! can’t wait to do it again :)

They ruled. The monster workshop was a ton of fun. And their studio was amazing, filled with some of the most intense puppets of all kinds (marionettes, hand puppets, etc). I learned a lot about arts and crafts too.

I bought a Groupon from here and the business never replied to two voicemails or two emails that I sent. I emailed Groupon and they took 3 days to get back to me, and even with their response didnt’ have an actual answer. Now i’m down money and didnt even get a chance to go.
