The Design Element

Everyone has a story from their perspective and this is mine. About a year ago I posted a review online about my experience with having a custom home built by R Henry Construction in Mankato. After it was posted I began receiving calls and messages from others who went through very similar experiences as I depicted. Not surprising the review made its way back the R Henry Construction, the Design Element, Artisans, Lights on Madison and Mankato Cabinet Crafters– all of whom were named in my review which coincidentally are all owned by the same people who own R Henry Construction (Rich Weyhe’s wife Margot owns the Design Element and Lights on Madison). Not long after I received a letter from their attorney stating they had placed a lien on my home demanding me to pay them and that I remove the reviews I had written online about my experience with them. (After speaking with other customers of theirs, I am not the first to get a letter from an attorney demanding something). I had agreed to payoff the lien (which the way their contract is written should have been money I kept from escrowing items) but I was so tired of dealing with them and their antics I was done. So, I paid the money and simply requested they remove the photo they took of the front of my home without permission and not use it or my name/​job as a way to promote their business. I also complied with their request for review removal and assumed they would do the same with discontinuing the use of my home on the site. They have not. So, I have decided to go back on my word and not let them intimidate me info silencing my 1^st amendment right. My hopes in sharing my experience with the world is to helpfully help someone from making the same mistake that we did.
Here is OUR story! As a Realtor in town, I thought going in to build my first house I would have a good handle on how it is done. I did my homework (or so I thought), met with different builders in town, got bids and selected R. henry Construction to build our dream home we had designed. I have been in homes they built and we were super excited to get started… if only I could go back in time and know then what I know now!!! I do not think we could have had a WORST EXPERIENCE!
