Dr. Bowens and the entire team at VNCT were a godsend for us and our little miracle dachshund, Ginger. When Ginger started showing signs that something was wrong, we took her to our regular vet who immediately recognized that the problem was more than likely a slipped disk in her spine. She told us that we needed to get Ginger to surgery and referred us to Dr. Bowens asap. While we were on the way to Mansifeld, our vet had called Dr. Bowens to let him know the situation. When we arrived, the entire staff was already aware of our situation and ready to assist us.
As you can imagine, this entire experience was extremely stressful. Dr. Bowens was very thoughtful and compassionate throughout the entire ordeal, explaining all of our options in detail. He was also very positive without being overly optimistic, explaining that there was really only about a 25% chance that Ginger would walk again but that they would do everything they could. We were obviously crushed, but opted for the surgery anyway.
Steven and Francisco kept us up to date frequently during the surgery and were just as compassionate as Dr. Bowens. There were always friendly and willing to answer every question my wife and I could throw at them. They are a real asset to VNCT and their help was greatly appreciated.
After Ginger’s surgery, we were able to visit her while she was recovering and once again we were greeted by friendly staff that never seemed put out by us visiting our Ginger on a daily basis. They would give us updates on Ginger’s progress and gave helpful tips along the way.
I am happy to say that 11 weeks after her surgery, Ginger is now able to walk again (although very wobbly) and use the restroom under her own power. There is a long road ahead to full recovery, but recovery is only possible because Dr. Bowens and his team were able to work true magic!
