Department of Motor Vehicles – Manteca Office

I realize that this is indeed the department of motor vehicles, and it is very random the service one will receive. However, I do not appreciate the question, ‘What do you need?!’ being snapped at me. Um, we’re here to take care of some business, OK? It’s 10 in the morning, and I am not the jerk you had just dealt with. (if that is what happened). I don’t take the 1^st shot and I don’t like returning fire when being spoken and disrespected, but I will do it. That is why I raised my voice, drawing attention to your attitude, making you realize you had messed up.

Manteca Dmv is awesome!!! Nicole at window #1 is awesome! Thanks for all your help! Never had customer service like this at any Dmv ever.

Five stars to a DMV office, and without any pigs flying!
I’ve been several times, at different times, with appointments and without and I have to say, excellent service on all fronts. I tend to research a bit before heading in for whatever may need updating/​fixing-​trust me, it makes a difference when you make it to the front of the line and have to let their check-​in person know what you’re there for (it’s all in the explanation, people, duh!). It’s always clean and I have yet to see it filled to the gills like I have seen Stockton’s DMV office. Helpful hint: if you don’t have an appointment, going first thing in the morning is best. They open at 8am, I got in line outside about 7:45 and I was done with my business and on my way by 8:15. BONUS: the people that work there are pretty friendly. Highly recommend!

Seek ANY other DMV. I have never had an issue paying for another person’s registration before in my life. I patiently waited two and a half hours (their systems were apparently down) to be told that I would be unable to make the payment on my mother in law’s registration because I was not on the title. I would have appreciated it if the man who checked my paperwork and ID the first time mentioned this before giving me a number and telling me to wait. (The gal I saw at window one was the same person I worked with the first time, My mother in law were there two weeks ago and sent to come back with an additional form. We mentioned my mother in law would be going out of town and the woman informed us then that it would be no problem for me to come back to submit the paperwork and pay it for her.) I reminded her of what she said when we worked with her recently and she seemed to forget. She was completely unwilling to help, stating it was just their policy that a person on the title had to be there. I just wanted to pay the registration… I didn’t care about getting paperwork or anything, I just wanted to pay. Anyway, summary of the story is; I feel like the people I dealt with in this location couldn’t care less and essentially were useless for a customer facing career. Save your time and visit another DMV.

Best DMV ever! Needed a driver’s license renewed, made an appointment online, 15 minutes in and out. Clean. Nice people working. It’s light years ahead of that armpit office in Stockton.

Okay, so I’m totally confused with this state-​to-​state move. It may be me or it may be that California has more red tape than most. I don’t know.
I went to register my car in the state. I happened to have one of the cars that was legal for emissions/​smog in California, so I didn’t need to trade it.
I stood in the line at the desk for «non-​appointments» and I was talking to the security guard. He told me that I needed to take my car around to the side of the building for an initial inspection.
I did that, and waited a while for someone to return from testing a driver, as they do double duty. He returned and we were talking about the fun of moving from state to state.
The inspector returned from a test, took care of my inspection rather quickly. Then, she told me to go back to the first desk – near the entry way. As I went back into the line, she came out and pointed me toward the red line on the side. This shaved a bit off my wait, thankfully. I didn’t expect anyone to be so helpful.
The person behind the desk looked at my documents, had me fill out another form, with mostly duplicate information from the Inspection form, but whatever – they need the information. I handed the form to the person and she gave me a number.
I waited a bit. Okay, you know what I mean.
They called my number. The person was friendly and caring, which is a real surprise after living in several other states. I was concerned when she said that I had to get a smog test because the web site said that there was a «smog abatement fee» or something like that for Diesel vehicles, but whatever. $ 370 total, which is still cheaper than the last state.
I returned for my driver’s license appointment this morning. I had to get around the crowd that was in the non-​appointment line, naturally. The appointment line was empty, and someone in the other line gave me the smirk smile, as to signal that I was in the wrong place. After the current person had finished, the person behind the desk asked to see me.
I filled out more paperwork (even though the paperwork didn’t explain much of anything on how to answer), got a number, and was called almost as soon as I sat down to wait. The process went quickly. They kept asking for everything but a naturalization paper, which is all I have. She took my money, had me read the eye chart, and told me to wait at the window nearest the camera.
That person also did a thumb scan to identify me, as well as putting things into the computer and checking my paperwork. I stood at the line to have my photo taken, and of course, I look deranged, as I should in a DMV photo. Thank goodness for consistency across the country! She sent me to a little room to take a test.
The room was barely 7×7 and there were several people crowded along the counter attached to the wall. As soon as I was given the test, I increased my level of panic. None of the questions seemed to be from the driver’s manual I read! In the end, I missed one question and I apparently didn’t read it correctly, because I answered as if it was a different question. The person behind the desk was a bit surprised because I was the last in the room and the first to finish.
He checked more things, got my thumb scan, took a chunk out of my out-​of-​state license, and handed me a paper to sign. He gave me the paperwork and said which one was a temporary license and that they would mail the permanent license to me.
Everyone today was quite friendly.

I did not have an appointment but drive by anyhow. There were just a couple cars in the lot so I went in.
From check in to walk out was about 15 mins. to pay my wife’s registration. This is the best experience I have ever had at a dmv. I’m originally from San Jose and never would have been in and out so fast.
The DMV employees even seemed to be in a good mood.

This place is a joke! Workers here treat you as if you should know every little detail regarding your visit! No one is helpful at all! You can not even ask a question with getting a smart ass remark or grin. I’m sorry if you hate your job, your here to help ppl. Won’t be back to this location.

This place is terrible they don’t inform you of anything, just too busy going on breaks and making you wait. After all they don’t care they have too stay there all day so why not make you keep them company.
Totally incompetent

Hit and miss anything pass 930am good luck. Unless you have an appointment and that will be a breeze.

1. Had an appointment for 8:30AM.
2. Arrived at 8:15AM and registered as instructed.
3. 8:30AM stood in another line for about 10 minutes.
4. 8:40AM they said I was late and told me to make another appointment.
If I treated my customers this way, I would have been out of business, No one cares, They can do what they want and you can do nothing about it. I wasted my valuable time to have to deal with those *$#@^$!!. Shame on them. It’s like you have to kiss their @#!$. Not much good I can say about their operation other than I have to go back for a second torturous time and just deal with it. I know, let’s privatize it and cut out the FAT!

Came at 4:50pm and they said they wouldn’t see me because it was too dark outside to verify the VIN on the vehicle and they don’t have a light in the inspection area. TIP to DMV — install a light. Wasted my time, could have just stayed home.

I guess the ‘get an appointment’ reviewers give the best advice, but with commercial trucks it doesnt always work like that. I was standing behind ONE other girl, at the front of the non appointment line. We were totally ignored, while eleven other people were allowed to go in front of us. Worst part was, nine of those arrived long after we were already here, because she was so slow that the line kept backing up. Eventually, number-​giver-​girl was left with no-​one in the other line to help, so she was forced to make eye contact with me, and begrudgingly called me up. At that point I wanted to tell her there just *might* be one more person out in the parking lot with an appointment, so maybe she should wait, in case she wanted to put them in front of me too.
The worst part was, the whole time we were standing there, we were watching the banner go across, informing everyone that the wait time for non-​appointments was zero hours and zero minutes. Well of course there was no wait… its because they were NOT HELPING anyone without an appointment, because no one could in that line could even get a number to get into the queue. Liars: S

Here to pay tags review; 1. Number Tag dispenser boss lady, didn’t even acknowledge my earthly presence simply took papers, stapled a number to it, not even a simple hello. Place is just as slow as the other DMV’s. Appointments are best way to avoid lines.

I absolutely love this dmv! Ive never had to wait more than 10 minutes here. Also every person I’ve dealt with has actually been pleasant which is refreshing.
The only thing is that like any other dmv there is barely any parking. And who likes going to the dmv anyway. So i’m deducting one point for that. Overall I always have a good experience here.

The old white man at the front desk has a bad attitude, no wonder they wanted to pay these fools Minimum Wage. I have no respect for DMV workers.
No matter what DMV it is there is always one ASS that works there and there is nothing we can do about it.

This is the only DMV I’ve ever been too.
I came here recently around 9am and there was already a line out the door that was wrapped around the building. I should have listened to my parents to come earlier. There was an elderly lady that even brought a chair with her to sit while she was in line. Pretty smart if you ask me. I was surprised I found parking since there was too many people at the DMV. I was seriously only at the DMV less than an hour and a half, thank god! I was surprised that the workers were really friendly. You would think they would be grumpy and all but no. They seriously love their job. Friends and family members would complain about the DMV like how it takes so long but I think it’s all worth it just because they have very good customer service.
Btw, the DMV opens at 9am on Wednesdays while the other days they are open at 8am.

I rather get a root canal in every tooth than go to the DMV.
I just spent 3 hours at this DMV. They are just like the rest of them. Long lines. Inefficient. The person that greeted me had a tattoo on the side of her neck. I spent about 1 hr and 50 minutes in line just to get ‘IN’ the door. I am so thankful it wasn’t raining!
The line wrapped around the back corner of the building. 4 attendants was the most you saw actually working. At one point I saw one of them text messaging! Come on!
What was aggravating was that it seemed that they all get breaks every 15 minutes. They are all constantly moving and shifting paper around, getting something to drink and taking breaks… at one point there was only one person attending people while everyone else was drinking water or left on their break.
I waited for about 2 hours in line in order to get inside the DMV building! I swear they need to hire more people in the DMV that are much faster, harder working and at least have a smile on their face. I would b e curious to know what type of education is required to be a DMV front end person. Honestly they don’t seem like they require much from a birds eye perspective.
It seems like they just WANT to look busy but the line isn’t getting any smaller. I see about 3 employees in these big desk just sitting there on their computer, while the ones right at the front are being swamped. Can’t they go in and help too or are they going to break their nails?
There are about 10 stations in this DMV. but at the most only 4 were filled. This office could run more efficiently if more service stations were opened up and if the managers would manage their ‘flock’ better as far as breaks, lunches and just getting up and doing nothing. From sitting and waiting I observed alot of inefficiencies.
Shouldn’t there be some type of dress code too? Some people were wearing jeans and a sweater that was about 3 sizes to small for their figure. Skin was showing from places you shouldn’t have visible in an office atmosphere. It wasn’t pretty and not pretty to watch for the whole time I was there…
There are a few friendly looking service reps there. but from where I was sitting I had a front row seat to the rude ones. But I don’t blame them, they get to deal with people of all personalities and organization skills. DMV workers cant provide miracles. Bring all your paperwork in order! Be organized! Don’t be like the stupid ones like myself without an appointment!
I look at the clock. I have been in the DMV for about 2.5 hours and my number is not called yet. I am sure I will be here til about noon.
I have AAA, and I would have gone to AAA for my registration renewal had I not needed to come here for something else.
Sigh…
I hate this place.

Out of all the California DMV field offices I have been to this one is the best.
Its in kind of a hard to find location in Manteca but its a hidden gem. It seems like a newer office… not as dumpy as other field offices. What also set it apart was the people working here… I am so used to government offices where people look like they hate their job and everyone here was not only helpful but damn friendly!
Seriously its not like anyone gets excited about going to the DMV but this place makes it seem a little more pleasant. Now if they could just change that robotic voice on the system where they call your number…
