Imagine a mashup between In-N-Out Burger, Fuddruckers, and Culver’s, and you’d come up with something like Freddy’s. Like Culver’s they serve frozen custard and hamburgers. The hamburgers look like Culver’s burgers, but they call them steakburgers instead of ButterBurgers. I can’t speak to those, as I haven’t had one. You order at the counter, and then they call out your order number later when it’s ready to be picked up(like Fuddruckers). They serve very thin fries, like shoestring fries, along with their own Freddy’s Fry sauce. They serve a variety of frozen desserts — sundaes, malts, concrete(Blizzard-style) confections. My first visit was a real disappointment. The place was quite busy, with a lot of families with children. The décor is red and white, diner-like, with lots of black and white photos associated with Freddy history/personalities. I ordered a simple strawberry malt. I do not know what the server did with the malt from the time the custard came out into the cup, until the time it was served to me, but it was THEWORSTMALTEVER! I don’t know what was in it, but it was the color of vomit and it didn’t taste at all like strawberry. Honestly, I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. I should have brought it back to the counter. I’m still perplexed by what was put into that cup and why it tasted the way it did. There was no whipped topping, no cherry on top. The best I can figure is that they added way too much malt flavoring. That’s the only explanation that makes any logical sense to me. I’d like to give the burgers a try, but will have to get over the failed malt experience. How do you mess up a malt?

Freddy’s is like the Culvers of the Southern Midwest — think Kansas and Missouri minus the cheese curds. My parents dragged me here one afternoon because my Dad was really craving a chocolate malt. I let my parents do the ordering for me because I had no idea what I wanted. Freddy’s atmosphere reminds me of what a burger joint would of been like in the 50’s. They use an old school microphone to announce when the orders are ready. I was shocked when the place was busy at 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon! My mom ordered me a grilled chicken sandwich and fries. I’m not a huge fan of grilled chicken but my sandwich was awesome! The buns and lettuce were very fresh and the chicken was perfectly grilled and not too thick. The fries were very thin and salty, just the way I like them. They even have a new Freddy’s fry sauce which is absolutely delicious. It’s a tangy and similar to an aioli. I dipped everything in there. Lastly, I had to get custard because its my favorite. I went with the little kid option of the Dirt n’ Worm Sundae. The custard was very good and next time I definitely will get a malt. Overall the staff was very friendly and helpful. My only complaint was that you couldn’t understand what they were saying through the microphone because it was very muffled. I will be back for that malt and a burger. oh and the Freddy’s sauce!

Worst burgers ever. No taste whatsoever. Plus fries are wanna be baby fries. Will not come back here.

Hands down THE best fries and burgers anywhere! Friendly staff! Consistently great quality. The place is clean and even though its fast food, the staff will offer to remove your tray. Frozen custard is to die for. This place will however RUIN you to eat at any other burger place ever. Anyplace else will pale in comparison. I ate a lot at Culvers which is good, but this is GREAT!!! Burgers have a perfect sear on them. Always cooked well like I love. Fries are thin and crispy– I am not a fry –person but I am there! Wish they sold t-shirts there! Because I would proudly wear one! Keep up the good food!!!

Food was disappointing — Five Guys it’s not. Bland taste, and can’t hold a candle to Culver’s beef.

Insanely rude!!! Went through the drive through. She rushed us, she didn’t even let us finish ordering before she told us our total and told us to come to the next window. Completely blown away by the lack of customer service.

Staff was friendly. The manager was there and walked around asking how everything was. Fries are like shoestring fries with awesome fry sauce. My bacon cheese burger was delicious and unexpected from a fast food place. It was like a dinner burger with a great crusty sear on it. The pickles on my burger were superb… I’m a pickle lover, they don’t have the crappy flimsy dill rounds. This is a nice crispy pickle slice similar to a Vlasic.

Freddy’s was a fun place to go to. Staff was very kind. Busy atmosphere. Burgers and Chicago dog were good. It was cool you can make your own shakes of smoothies choosing ingredients they had like a cheesecake strawberry smoothie for example. It was busy so find a table first if dining in before picking up food at the counter.

This is only a comment on the service and value. Went to Costco to shop, on the way out wanted a strawberry frozen yogurt sundae. Their machine was broken. Went through Freddy’s drive thru. Only one car ahead of me — took forever — more than 5 minutes. I asked for a small strawberry sundae. Got to the window, and they had a strawberry shake. Waited two more minutes for the sundae. Noticed an employee throwing out food — apparently from another screwed up order. They put a minuscule amount of strawberries on the custard — this is for $ 3.35. Costco charges $ 1,65 for more than twice the amount. IMO, there’s too many of these mediocre joints, run by an unorganized, confused, staff.

Ok– round one of reviews. This one is for the location in Maple Grove. Duh, ok Captain Obvious… but I will be going to the one in Savage tomorrow. Then, I can compare. This one though, I only went through the drive thru. Let me tell ya, the lanes were narrow and I was sweating bullets afraid to scratch my hot ass wheels on the curb. I would never do it again and just park my car. Though my wheels were unscathed, I was a nervous wrecked for about 3 minutes as two seconds could ruin everything. Yeah, I love my wheels and I just hate it when I get curb rash on it. So, if you love your wheels like me, just don’t do drive thru. I thought it took quite awhile for a drive thru fast food to get the food. Culver’s got it down you know as they take their sweet ass time too but they let you know what’s going on and gave you a number, etc. Here, you just waited and waited. If I had a way to jump that small ass drive thru lane, I’d probably already be gone. Smart, as I had no choice but to stay on the lane. I ordered the single California style and it was awesome. Not at first bite tho. My first impression was not pretty as the lady at the window handed me this greased stained brown bag. I had a look like the honey badger after the bird swooped his prey with my two front teeth showing making faces. It was ugly. I took the bag and after parking I looked inside the bag and found the burger in a greased stained box. In my head I was screaming — holy hell was this place greasy or what?!! Did they have a license to grease since this was a fast food burger joint? After I got passed the grease and the falling lettuce, I started to enjoy the burger. The patty was thin with crispy edges but the whole burger was pretty good. The fries were match sticks and crispy. Not sure actually if I loved it. I’ll let you know tomorrow. It kinda reminded me of Steak n Shake and a bit In n Out. I did really enjoy the burger to a point I wanted another one. Tomorrow! To be continued.

This reminds me of old times when fast food was a destination. I never heard of Freddy’s, still waiting on In and Out Burger. The red and white 50’s décor and WWII photos all around of the founder and family didn’t equate with the obnoxious modern music out of the walls. Here I wouldn’t have minded reliving my Wayne Newton experience. This annoyed me so much I spoke with COO, Paul who happened to be on sight. This turned into quite a discussion of demographics and time of day regarding this crap. Maybe it would be good to get rid of it altogether. Now for the meal I’m trying to digest. I got the double cheeseburger. If you have to eat fast food at all, I enjoyed this one. I liked the mustard for a condiment included. They put on thin whole slices of pickle that gets things messy in a hurry. I would suggest when they take them out of the jar, they do a pat down of the juice. The onions were sliced a lot thinner than BK, which I appreciated. Thin burger, thin onion is the way to go. I usually don’t eat fries. But here the matchstick fries were delicious and I ate all of them. One of the staff brought me some special sauce to try. It reminded me of when I dipped them in Russian dressing at the old sports bar at MOA. He also brought me a spoonful of vanilla custard. Lots of staff around, hope it stays this way.

I’m sorry to report that there’s just not room in Minneapolis for a sub-par burger joint anymore. I had a single California with onion rings. The burger was a little like Culver’s but there was very little flavor in the meat itself. The lettuce was chopped, so every bite you took, a piece of mayo covered lettuce would inevitably fall out. I couldn’t force myself finish my burger. The onion rings were good, but weren’t anything special. My beautiful dinner-mate was less than thrilled with her meal. She had steak fries(We shared) and they were similar to Smash Burger, but less savory. We had high hopes for Freddy’s, but we won’t be returning.

Had the #7 combo meal double cheese burger and fries. I’d say it’s like Culvers. The burger was OK and fries were the shoe string type(which I didn’t care for). Nothing that great, but had to try it out.

Burgers: Fresh, delicious and the meat hangs off the edge of the bun — these patties turn«love-handles» into a compliment! Fries: Thin, crispy and lightly seasoned :) plus I’m always up for a special sauce! Custard: it’s frozen custard, it’s just good! Overall: better than Culver’s and worth going through all the Arbor Lakes chaos

Like the other reviews have said, this place is very similar to culvers. The burgers look the same and they both serve frozen custard. It was good, but I wasn’t blown away. I was surprised to see that lettuce and tomatoes were extra, not by much, but those are typically complimentary. I typically get chocolate frozen custard and raspberries but was bummed when they didn’t have any raspberries. Not as many topping choices that culvers has. I would go here again but I would rather go to culvers.

Great burger and fries! I got a single cheeseburger with bacon. Very similar to Culver’s and in a great location. Drive through was busy even mid-day Monday. Some of the staff is new and therefore a little off top game, but that can be expected.

Spectacular. It’s like Culvers except red… and better. You can tell how new it is still because most of the employees will be seen dinning there.

Great shoe string fries and hot dogs! Brought home some custard with high hopes. Price comparable to Culvers or Chic Fil A.
