Coffee’s Gym

Really, really cool gym. I’m from England, was over for the week, had the same feel to it as a ‘Temple Gym’. The owner, John, is a really cool guy, and everyone who trained there was serious about lifting, it had a good atmosphere about the place. Quality, old school gym, if I lived in Atlanta it would be my 2^nd home.

If you’re serious about training for Olympic Weightlifting or just want an introduction, If you want to get into Strongman competitions, or just want to have a friendly introduction to the sport, even if you just want to make a better you: Coffee’s Gym is your gym!
Coach Coffee and his staff are incredibly friendly, encouraging and knowledgable individuals (Coffee’s Gym is 19-​time Women’s Senior National Weightlifting Champions!). The gym has a very welcoming atmosphere for athletes of all skill levels. Coffee’s Gym offers incredibly affordable prices for memberships and one-​day passes. Coffee’s Gym also offers wildly affordable coaching sessions if you’re wanting coaching for Olympic Weightlifting.
On the main floor there are plenty of pieces of equipment to train with: from a Forza Super Bench, to a Glute-​Ham Raise, to a Reverse Hyperextension, to Dumbbells ranging from 5 — 190 pounds, plenty of benches, machines for pulling, abs, treadmills, et al. It’s all in a limited space, but there is plenty of room for everything that’s in there.
There is a good Strongman lifting crowd here as well. There are implements to train with such as a log for log pressing, axels, farmers walk implements, and much more. I believe there are trainers available if this is what you are looking for in training (not 100% sure but call for confirmation!). And again, a very encouraging and positive atmosphere prevails at Coffee’s Gym, in all styles of lifting.
In the Weightlifting room there is anything one could ever need to become a competent, successful lifter (that includes the available coaching). There are Jerk blocks of various sizes so you can work Jerks, Block Pulls, Cleans/​Snatches from blocks, etc. There are 2 squat stands and a squat rack in this room, an adjustable box for step-​ups, more bumpers than you can shake a stick at, and chalk! Gotta have chalk! There are plenty of bars to be used, so there should never be a problem having one, they even have a Hatfield Bar (Safety Squat/​Yoke Bar).
I cannot sing the praises of Coffee’s Gym enough. The staff are phenomenal, the equipment is aplenty, and the atmosphere so positive and encouraging. Coffee’s Gym is a place where anyone from the average person looking to improve their health to the elite-​level competitor training to be the best there ever was can be successful!

Coffee’s is a diamond in the rough and if you’re serious about Olympic Weightlifting, it’s the only gym you need to know about.
It’s seriously old-​school but don’t let looks deceive you. The place is located in the corner of a sad shopping center off South Marietta Parkway. It’s small and most of the space, surprisingly enough, is filled with your standard globo gym exercise equipment.
Off to the left, there is an even smaller, teeeeeny tiny space where the magic happens. There about 4 lanes and you can usually expect to share the lane with another person or two during peak training times (afternoons on the weekends). The barbells and weights are of good quality. Best of all, the people are great – both members and trainers alike. If you’re looking to advance in your training, you have the most knowledgeable and experienced crew around at Coffee’s.
Fees are very nominal. Five dollars to drop in for the day or you can look into several monthly options. There are no showers so plan accordingly. If you’re visiting for the first time, be sure to call ahead and make sure there is a trainer available to work with you.
