Hemingway’s Bar & Grill

I guess this place gets a lot of business because of location but it isn’t worth a stop-​by. Maybe if you’re drunk enough the microwaved bar food is palatable but the menu is overpriced and not worth it. The beer is a total rip off price wise. Service was good but this place is living on its location, not its value.

Don’t Work There. Hemingway’s is a nut house. The don’t no how to run a business. They yell at you for the stupidest things, will make you pay for anything if you ring it in wrong on accident. They make you tip out mangers to run food when your running more then half the food already. The owner is a cheap ass and rude man. Kicks people out for know reason. All over rude to everyone will just push you out his way. Makes you pay the whole check plus tip if someone doesn’t sign their check stub even tho the card has been ran. Says inappropriate things to employees. Oh and one of the mangers is an ex porn star. Just horrible management and owner. Not professional at all.

Great atmosphere here, indoor and outdoor seating so you can have a more intimate setting or join the bustle of the Marietta Square. The drink selection is great and the servers are helpful and quick. The food is traditional American fare and there is good range on the menu. We bring visiting family here as a must– stop and all have left ad pleased as we do. I highly recommend at least having an appetizer and drink here.

This place gets knocked around a lot, the article is good and Sunday’s out on the patio are good with live music. I have never been here at night or drink or eat inside. If you want good food and good run punch. Eat here. The Mahi sandwich is very reasonable priced
And with jerk seasoning. Very good. Add a side of plantains and a side Caesar and you are set.

Luckily we were able to snag a patio table because the crowds were way too big to enjoy the Taste of Marietta and even better was our waitress, Ashley!!! We had a large group & a lot of people coming & going all afternoon Ashley performed like a champ & had a GREAT personality! Hemingway’s is all about the location & the people watching — not so much the food & really not so much the service BUT Ashley was incredible & we would go back just to see her! There needs to be more Ashley’s in the world! Thanks for a great day!

I wish I could this place a negative Zero! I went in from the taste of Marietta and the bartender was the most rude and racist person I’ve ever encountered! He told me to make like a leaf a blow my ass out of the door. He talked so nasty to me. Due to the fact I told him I don’t drink wells liquor because it triggers my migraines. He told me that I would be alright as he continued to make my drink with Wells liquor. The other bartender tried to tell him I can’t have it. Then he became frustrated and started yelling and cursing. One Caucasian man began to clap as the bartender kept disrespecting me. I’ve never felt so humiliated. I won’t stop here with this Unilocal.I even spoke with a police officer about the situation. He said he knows the owner and will speak to him. The bartender was an older Caucasian man with a light yellow shirt.

If I could give this this place a 0 I would. The owner is a complete liar, went in with a 30 person wedding party and the owner turned us away because we were required to be all on one check. Staff was very unprofessional. Drinks sucked too. Honestly they lost a ton of money requiring us to have 1 check for 30 people. Mccrakens is a much better choice in Marietta Square.

Oy, Hemmingways. I have a love/​hate relationship with this place.
The Cons: $ 10 minimum on credit card purchases, food is overpriced and most of it tastes like it’s frozen food that’s been put in a microwave. For me, this is the kicker: they don’t use any real silverware or cups. Everything is in Styrofoam or plastic. So weird. It’s like eating at a dugout stand at a little league game, except it’s a smoky bar. Beer menu is minimal and drinks are overpriced.
Pros: There is a really nice outdoor patio that is part of an alley with nice bricked pavement, umbrellas, and occasionally some live music when the weather is nice.
Last time I was there, I was hit on by a late 50’s Indian gentleman who was so drunk he didn’t realize he was flirting with another man. Or maybe he did? He kept talking about his wife though. When he started to get handsy, the bartender was kind enough to kick him out without me so much as saying anything.

It was not busy at all on Sunday evening. I was glad to stop in during non-​peak hours.
Friendly and patient staff and plenty of seating for a group. They have a full bar. The only silver tequila worth drinking was Patron, but that was ok with me. My only pet peeve was they served alcohol in plastic, including wine.
I had the fried chicken strips with fries. It was small but satisfying. The nachos are a little flimsy but tasted good. Wings were fresh and hot and probably my favorite item. The BBQ sauce was sweet and yummy. If I was in Marietta again I would come back.

The food wasn’t too bad but expensive for what you get but what makes it a bad experience is everything is served in or on cheap plastic, even your silverware is just plastic. Try eating a nice entrée on a paper/​plastic plate … things like calamari was almost too chewy to eat, I could cook better food at home. We won’t be going back.

The service was decent. Our waitress brought the food or in a timely manner and she was nice. In terms of the food… It was terrible. They definitely need to redo their menu and hire a new cook. For the price you paid, you might as well go to the mall food court.

Went today for lunch right when it opened. The restaurant was empty aside from employees. I’ve read most of the negative reviews and aside from plastic utensils and styrofoam cups, it’s not a bad place.
I ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and it was cooked perfectly and was quite good. The tater tots were good as well.
This is a no frills kind of place with sidewalk seating for warmer weather. I’d definitely go back.

I usually don’t write reviews, especially bad ones, but I just can’t shake off the terrible experience I had at Hemingway’s Bar & Grill last night.
My two friends and I went here for dinner and sat outside. We started with the artichoke dip and some waters and a pitcher of Black & Tan. We we’re served the dip (which came in a Styrofoam cup) and the waters (which also came in Styrofoam cups) but not the beer. After about 10 minutes with our appetizers the manager on duty came out and explained that he could not serve our table alcohol because my friend looked too intoxicated. My friend, who has mild CP, explained to him that he had not been drinking and that he has a small medical condition. I’m not sure if the manager didn’t understand what CP was or just didn’t care because he aggressively put both of his fists on the table and replied that he «would not risk his liquor license over us and recommended we try McCracken’s down the street». Feeling deeply insulted, we paid for our dip and left.
All in all I would never recommend any restaurant that is A) insensitive to people with disabilities and B) serves $ 9 artichoke dip in a Styrofoam cup.

Oh boy, this place is the pits… I had the misfortune of stumbling into Hemingway’s on a Friday night while waiting for a seat at a nearby restaurant. We had an hour to kill, so we decided to see what Hemingway’s had to offer. What we experienced was some of the worst service I’ve ever seen at a bar. I’m giving this place one extra star for its location. With a competent staff, there might be a reason to have a beer on the sidewalk at Marietta Square. As it’s currently constructed, I hope this place goes out of business so someone with a modicum of business sense takes it over and turns it into a real bar. Let’s get into the grim details…
Hemingway’s is located on the west side of Marietta Square next to Tiny Bubbles. The bar has a strange mix of dive kitsch and nautical. I get that you’re called Hemingway’s, but how do anchors and nets mesh with loads of neon bar signs? Despite this, the place was about 80% full when we arrived.
My girlfriend, her brother and I sat down at a booth. After a few minutes, a server ambled over to us. Out of politeness, I won’t name names. However, this guy was absolutely atrocious. He told us it would be at least 20 minutes before we could even place a food order. We said we just wanted some chips, but he refused to take the order to the kitchen because «they would yell at him». We settled on some beers. How hard is it to throw some chips in a basket? You know they’re just going to glob some cheese out of one of those dispensers, too.
Finally, after about 20 minutes, he wandered over with three beers that had been sitting on the bar getting warm. He also said that he changed his mind and «would do us a favor and try to get us some chips». We said no thanks, drank the gross beer, and asked for a check.
We just wanted to leave. He wandered to a few other tables, went to the bar, came back to the tables, and never got our check. It was absurd. I finally walked up to the bar and told him to give us the total so we could just leave. He fumbled around and finally charged us $ 18 for three warm Bud Lights. WTF.
I will never come back to this cesspit. In my girlfriend’s review, she said this might be a good place «if it was the first place you visited after being in prison for the past decade». I disagree. This dump would make you run back to your cell. If this is the best the world as to offer, there’s not much point to life on the outside.

Plastic utensils.
Service mediocre.
Maybe a decent place to have a bottle beer, that’s about it.

I wouldn’t go here again, it’s in a great spot in the square but they definitely need to revamp their menu and get a new chef. The food is sub-​par and overpriced, nothing else to really say other than that.
Service was OK, and the atmosphere is fine, nothing to write home about.

I ordered lemon pepper wings with fries wich was tasteless and the amt. of fries for 2.95 was enough to feed a 4 yr old child. Never again. The 1 star was just for the bartender service

What a waste of a prime location! My little brother came to visit me so I wanted to show him a good time in Marietta square! He had never been to Atlanta before so I was hoping to show him a part of the city that he would enjoy. There was a looooong wait at our restaurant, so we decided to get an appetizer and drink at Hemingway’s. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
Our server immediately informed us that it would be at least a 20 minute wait for food. We ordered a couple of beers… ($ 5 for a bottle of bud light…) and wanted chips and salsa — but he said it would be 20 minutes even for that! The bar wasn’t even packed. I have no idea what was going on but it is such a shame that this place has a prime spot on the square. THERE IS SO MUCH WASTED POTENTIAL. The interior was depressing. Definitely needs a makeover– staff, décor, layout, menu, prices — all wrong! I hope Bar Rescue comes for a visit!
I also was really confused by the name! Hemingway’s made me think the ambiance would be somewhat charming — nice lighting, fun menu, good cocktails — but no. This was straight up funk.
It might be a nice outing if you just were released from prison, but if you’ve been living in the outside world for the past decade, you know that is just a waste of a great space! And grossly overpriced.

I enjoyed my time with my daughter and my fur child! (My Morkie) we really enjoyed ourselves on the porch and the food was so yummy! They brought a bone to my puppy and a bowl of water. She was so happy! It was absolutely perfect! Oh the food was delicious and the service was so sweet!

Took a client there for lunch on Halloween. I ordered a Mahi sandwich. The cost was somewhere around $ 9.00. The nice waitress asked me if I wanted fries with it. I asked her what came with the sandwich and she said nothing. Normally I like to get something else in lieu of fries. Well I thought hell this must be a great sandwich then.
My mahi sandwich finally came out and it was literally swallowed up my the bun. The piece of fish, I estimate was 2“x3″. It was tiny and I say was ¼″ thick. The taste was mediocre and I left the table and restaurant disappointed, hungry and a little poorer.
My gut is that they are in financial trouble… If they do not turn around their quality I think they will be closed by the end of the year. Sadly I will never know because they just lost 2 customers forever.
