Quality Inn Monterey Beach Dunes

We have stayed here before and were much happier with our experience last trip (a year ago). The coffee maker in the room was disgusting and there were blood stains on the sheets in one of the beds. We requested a different room as our window view was blocked by the stair case. We were told there wasn’t anything else available facing the ocean. A short time later a large group checked in last minute and were given the other rooms facing the ocean. I know the group was last minute because I was traveling with them but had booked already at Quality Inn. They booked late due to a reservation issue where they were supposed to stay. I only clarify that to explain I am certain when I was told there weren’t other rooms available that that wasn’t true. They ran out of food for the continental breakfast and we were unable to eat breakfast before having to leave for the day’s events.
This hotel is located very close to Marina Beach. Great location and great price but they need to improve on their cleanliness and customer service. We will likely book at the Best Western next door for our next trip.

The tvs are outdated the vending machines do not work there are no fridges in the room the customer service is terrible! zero quality!

This is good hotel. It’s a very convenient location, across the street from Marina state beach. Parking is good. There’s a nice courtyard, with a lovely oversized hot tub, with a seating area. It’s well lit, with lights, at night. The rooms are clean and quiet. The hotel is conveniently located, off the freeway. There’s free breakfast included. Some rooms have a microwave and refrigerator. Coffee maker and ironing board, in the room. I definitely recommend this hotel!

I give one star for location only. I asked for an ocean facing room on my reservation which was lost, then they put us in a room that’s in a courtyard. When I asked about the ocean facing room that I requested I was told they’re booked. At 12:30am there are 5 cars (2 of them in my party) in the parking lot. Nooooone was checked into any of the rooms.
In a double room is a standard room with double beds. There are no microwaves, no refrigerators, very small.
But hey. you get free shotty wifi for $ 106/​night.
Will not stay here again. Ever.

For a «Quality» Inn, the quality wasn’t great. The shower in our room was dirty and the water couldn’t hold its temperature. There were stains on the towels and when we got into the room the bathroom floor was wet like someone had just showered in it. The bed was fine and the wifi connected but was pretty slow. The breakfast room wasn’t appetizing whatsoever and it smelled of old eggs. We ended up just eating the snacks and things that we had brought with us for the drive. It was convenient for where we were going the following day but otherwise it wouldn’t be our first choice for a repeated stay.

Next door is this place called a Best Western… Who would ever think a Best Western can trump anywhere but lo and behold, it does.
Quality INN what or where?
Our ‘Queen’ room was exceptionally tiny, sufficient if you’re traveling far and need a cheap rest stop with a bed and working shower. Otherwise, DON’T say you weren’t warned.
Woman at front desk started nice when we checked in but don’t complain because it’ll fall on deaf ears. She’s possibly the Manager (she’s much older than the young nice girl who checked us out), has a cute dog at least. When we expressed dissatisfaction with the size and asked to upgrade to a larger room, she admitted the Best Western next door was twice the size per room. We stayed there last year. That is accurate. $ 25/​to upgrade. What a joke.
TV and furniture are from the 90s. Bed was more like a double than a queen. Plus only 2 rough towels for us and nobody could supply extra until 9am… (Bring your own if you want to go spa or wrap your long hair after washing?)
Room key stopped working at 10:45.
Had to go get our keys remagnetized right before check out. Inconvenient automatic timers.
Seriously. Skip this joint. Same price at the BW next door. Thank me silently later.

Cheap, small and not kept up. The worst night sleep. The beds suck. Booking .com gave a 4 star not even close.

This place is terrible. To quote another guest, «not so much Quality».
The service is deplorable, particularly the manager Teresa Machado. We attended a wedding in the area this past weekend, and the bride’s website recommended this place, and claimed they were giving a special rate to wedding guests. I really wish we had stayed anywhere else in the area, because the experience here was enough to ruin our weekend.
1. The manager refused to honor the pre-​arranged wedding rate that the bride advertised on her website. She was also very rude about it when I asked. She sounds like a person who is very unhappy with her job.
2. We spent the morning of the wedding day traveling in from out of town, and called to ask about check-​in times so we could get dressed. They said check in was at 3 (the wedding was at 1, which they should know since most of the wedding guests were staying here). We asked for early check-​in and they said they don’t offer that. So we asked if they had somewhere we could at least get dressed (a bathroom, meeting room, anything?). They said no. They were rude and unhelpful the whole time. We ended up having to get ourselves and our two kids dressed at a mall before the wedding. Thank you to Men’s Wearhouse and Macy’s for allowing us to use their fitting rooms.
3. Another wedding guest said she and her 3 kids drove 6 hours, and arrived at 2:45, only to be told that they had to wait until 3 to check in. So she and her kids had to stand in the tiny lobby waiting until 3:00 on the dot to check into their room, despite being sweaty and uncomfortable from a long drive.
4. The room smelled terrible.
5. The bedcoverings were low-​quality and felt grimy. After only one night there, I felt gross and everyone in the family took a bath immediately upon our return home.
I am not at all surprised that even though there was a huge race in Monterey that weekend, as well as TWO weddings using the Quality Inn, that they STILL had «Rooms Available» displayed on their marquee on Saturday. If I were ever in the area again, this is the last place I’d choose.

I stayed here and was very disappointed. I actually had a positive experience making the booking over the phone directly with the hotel but as soon as I arrived on the property, it was all downhill. The woman who checked us in was brash, rude and made us feel bad for wanting to check in at normal check-​in time! Once we were in the room, it was cramped and just didn’t feel at all clean. I was traveling with children and was reluctant to put them down anywhere in the room (brought my own travel crib thankfully!). No elevator and no one to assist with luggage. This place is way overpriced for what you’re getting… spend the extra money and just get a room across the street at Sanctuary. At least, you’ll get amazing customer service and a smile!

Kind of blah, nothing special here. They advertise as being next to the water but we didn’t see any water when we walked around the entire hotel. The only possible water location could have been over a dune approxmently a quarter mile away. Our room seems clean so we consider ourselves lucky compared to other reviewers. The plumbing was a little weird. Even on the hottest setting our shower could only get lukewarm water and it would randomly turn ice cold. Our room had a coffee maker, iron, hair dryer but no refrigerator or microwave as mentioned with other rooms. The room is definitely small and my husband and I felt a little cramped. Older hotel, definitely dated. One major complaint I have is that there are no elevators and only flights of stairs everywhere. Beware if you get a second floor room and especially if you get a 3^rd floor room. I didn’t even bother bringing in my luggage and just grabbed clothes from the car. The walkways between the rooms seemed really, really dirty and could use a good power washing. The landscaping, which I normally wouldn’t bother mentioning, was especially bad with just dirt and random wires sticking out of it. Our check in person was friendly and there was a large breakfast selection with waffles, eggs, biscuits and gravy, pastries, hard boiled eggs, and yogurt.

They are the worst that I have ever stay! They do not help at all. All they want is charge more !
Do not even think to stay that place! Their staff also very rude !

After checking in today we were given a room that was dirty and had a foul smell coming from the fridge. After speaking with the person at the front desk the manager agreed to give us another room. Switched rooms and went to see Monterey. When we got back the room they gave us was as dirty as the first and the air conditioner really doesn’t work that well.
A couple of hours later we received an emergency call from home where a forest fire had broken out, burnt some of our friends houses to the ground, others had been evacuated, our grand mother was evacuated, and our property might be in jeopardy requiring use to come home immediately. If we were not so far from home we would leave now, but we need to stay the night so that we can travel home safely in the morning.
We then requested that the hotel give an exception and refund our card for the charges for the second night since we were going to be leaving before check out the next morning. The hotel manager, Theresa, informed me that since we booked through a third party vendor, Priceline, they were not going to refund the charges for the second night. She had nothing but an attitude and said that they were there to run a business and that she did not care that we had a forest fire related emergency and that if we would have booked through the hotel direct she might have entertained the idea of helping us.
We will never stay at any of the hotels that belong to this chain again. What ever happened to customer service, understanding, and compassion. Not everyone is trying to pull a fast one.
I will be contacting corporate office and will advise people to stay away from this hotel and any chain within their control.

I’ll start off by saying that any place trying to sell «quality» so hard has me skeptical from the beginning. However this was our only option as we spontaneously decided to take a beach trip without making reservations ahead of time. My recommendation to anyone visiting the Monterrey/​Carmel area in the summer would be to plan ahead because we ended up paying $ 300 to stay in this dump for one night. The lights in the room did not work. The only lighting we had were the ones above the bathroom vanity at the far end of the room and also inside the shower area. The room was musty and the furniture/​wallpaper dingy. Also the complimentary breakfast in the morning was not good at all. All in all do not recommend.

This cute little hotel is right next to the beach and is very clean. The manager was very sweet and put us in a great room at last minute request when all other hotels in the area were packed. The beds were cozy and had fresh crisp linens. The property itself was quiet and peaceful. There is a nice spa in the courtyard and delicious breakfast in the mornings. Definitely recommend this quaint hotel for some good R&R. The staff are all very courteous and kind. Two thumbs up! And thank you for treating us like true guests!

I’ve stayed at this hotel the past two weekends. The first weekend was just acceptable, overpriced for the experience, but gave it a second chance. The second stay was a big mistake. When my wife got sick after the first weekend I thought nothing of it, but on my second stay I also got sick and to my horror found mold in the shower I hadn’t seen on check-​in. The state of room 204, the bathroom in particular, just shows a hotel that has given up. The place is gross. What’s worse, I found Unilocal reviews of the same room and then confirmed that the issues had not been addressed in a two month period. The first room had a cigarette butt on the heater and trash on the floor.
The place is falling apart. Many examples of rotting drywall, water damage, markings on the walls, and just poor cleaning practices. The breakfast is held in a dark crowded room with horribly stained carpet and I’m pretty sure the eggs are powdered. The pool is not cleaned thoroughly. The overall hotel is badly in need of renovation, with all of the fixtures, televisions, paint, and furniture showing horrible wear and tear.
When our concerns were brought to the attention of the front desk on check-​out they seemed not to be surprised and definitely did not care.

I stayed here on 3÷28÷15, when I called in to check on vacancy I was hung up on twice. Finally spoke to a manager… She mention it was busy that why I was hung up on, Really?!
The room was super small, No microwave, No refrigerator!
Sink & tub water draining very slow!

ZERO STARS! AVOID THIS DUMP!
Checked in earlier today to dump our luggage and tour Monterey. Came back with take out to chill out. Unfortunately, we smelled foul odor from bathroom. Toilet seat was down. Lifted it to a nasty, POOP FILLED, almost OVERFLOWING toilet!!! Disgusting! If that’s not bad enough, it’s crystal clear these people do NOT clean their rooms. Found a pair of MENS SANDALS under the bed. Immediately called front desk… they moved us to same quality room. I asked for a late check out for the hassle. They gave an extra hour. Got in new «upgraded» room and found trash behind tv stand while trying to locate a dang open plug for cell phones. Nope. No open plugs. Not even one. Had to unplug clock and light near bed to plug our stuff in.
Was told «upgraded» room was on second floor. Room 204. We had suitcases. Guess what? NO ELEVATOR!!! Not handicapped accessible. We had to drag suitcases up a flight of cement stairs and since the clerk at front desk wasn’t helpful, we walked all around the second floor to find our room. You would think 204 would be by 205. Not so! This place is a joke. TV is from the 1980’s.
Tried to turn heat on in room 204 (it’s chilly for this former Floridian) and the heater smelled like it was ON FIRE! The hell? Oh… did I mention the SPIDERS on the ceiling? Screw this!!! Front desk clerk has the personality like a box of rocks. The «free wi-​fi» sucks big hairy donkey balls. Which must have stayed in this room prior to us. Crumbs all over carpet, black marks on walls by bed. No bueno. No stars. Stay away. At $ 179.00 a night… you better stay somewhere else!!! Crap hole. Literally!!! At least they have a bible. We will need it for the spider exorcism.
Make note: The manager at this quality inn, Theresa Machado has a terrible attitude. She should NOT be in any form of customer service. I was told she would NOT refund any bit of my hotel fee because I booked through a third party: Travelocity, despite being paid by travelocity the moment I checked in. BEWARE!!!

Wir waren auf der Durchreise und suchten in der Hochsaison eine Übernachtung für eine Nacht. Hier sind wir fündig geworden. Wir bekamen ein geräumiges Familienzimmer mit insgesamt 3 Queensizebetten für 4 Personen. Das Zimmer war sauber, allerdings ohne Kühlschrank und Minibar. Dafür waren auf dem Flur ein Getränkeautomat und eine Eismaschine vorhanden.
Das Frühstück ist für einen Mitteleuropäer eine Katastrophe. Es zwängen sich rund 15 Mann in einen Raum von circa 5×4 m, so dass man bestenfalls im Stehen oder draußen an der Bordsteinkante des Parkplatzes essen kann. Das führt insgesamt zu einer Abwertung.

So let me start off by saying, this hotel was perfect for what we needed it for. We decided relatively last minute to go to Monterey for Father’s Day. I got two rooms with an adjoining entryway for $ 200 TOTAL. Every other place I looked at was closer to $ 200 PER ROOM and we were only planning an overnight stay. We had to get up at 5:30 am and drive home so everyone could go to work.
We were a five minute walk from the beach (sadly way too cold to do more than walk the beach for about 30 minutes).
Rooms were clean. Our room faced the freeway and we had very little traffic noise. We could hear the people in the room next door who had a crying baby at midnight. We didn’t stay for breakfast or use the hot tub so I can’t speak to that. But come on, this is Monterey. $ 100 for a night is a steal.
It’s a 15 minute drive from downtown Monterey, so you need to take that into account. Also we basically spent the day and evening in Monterey and then crashed at the hotel for about 8 hours. There is a resort and restaurant across the street so you could concievably hang out there for a glass of wine/​beer if you wished rather than go into Monterey for dinner. Great bargain in an expensive town.
