History
Established in 1952.
In 1952 the State of Kentucky appropriated $ 2,900 for the organization of a library in Crittenden County, which was matched with approximately $ 300 by the fiscal court. Mrs. Jessie Croft Ellis was hired as the first Librarian. After her retirement Mrs. Betty Taylor was hired after she resigned. Mrs. Margaret Rhem was hired in 1962 as the Librarian.
During Mrs. Rhem’s tenure she saw the Crittenden County Public Library out-grow its building. In 1974 with help from the state, taxes and local donations the library built its present building, which opened in 1975. Mrs. Rhem retired in 1979.
Past library directors include Gayle Alvis, Joan Stovall, Sherry Tinsley, and Janice Pritchett. The current Library Director is Regina Merrick, who began in 2004.
