Pep Boys

3+ hour wait time for a tire patch up and an AC diagnostic, only to be told our compressor was broke and $ 1500 was needed to fix it.
With a second opinion from a local mechanic, we instead paid $ 300 to replace damaged wiring, and the fix should have been obvious according to our new mechanic.

My experience happened in 1990 (so I know this is a tad late, but we didn’t have the internet back then). My water pump went out early on a Sunday morning. My car limped to the Pep Boys in Marlow Heights. I waited at the door until they opened. I was the first customer in the door. The car sat in the bay all day long; and I sat on an uncomfortable wooden bench waiting… and waiting… and waiting… At 4:30 pm they tried putting a new pump on. They were literally banging it with hammers. At 4:45 pm they told me they’d ordered the wrong pump but it would be there the next day. They closed at 5 pm. So there I was stranded in lovely Marlow Heights. I had to walk 2 miles down a highway to get a motel. They didn’t even offer me the courtesy of a ride. And the hotel was absolutely filthy and nasty (different story for a different day). The car was finally ready the next afternoon. All told I spent 36 hours waiting for Pep Boys to get my car ready.
If anyone feels that my review, coming 25 years after the fact, is too late to be relevant, then just take what I am saying with a big grain of salt. But from reading the other reviews on here, it doesn’t appear that much has changed. AND I’ve been waiting 25 years to speak my peace about this place.

My experience today was great. I was sold the wrong rear wiper for my car at another location after being explicit in stating that my car is not listed correctly in their system. Ebony working the returns counter at this location today was very helpful in making sure I got the right size this time around. Thank you.

I went to pick up some parts which were previously paid for. I dealt with a horrible unprofessional employee by the name of ‘Estelle’. She was beyond rude. She claim that if I did not have my receipt to prove that I paid for the merchandise then I cannot take it. I told her customers loose their receipts all the time. I told her that is not true and that she can ask for my ID and do a search through their computer. Of course she then asked for my ID and snatch it from me. I asked her for help in taking the merchandise out to my car, she had the nerve to tell me that no one was available with an attitude. I then asked for the manager, she replies ’ I am the manager right now’. I said well who is the store manager, she replies ‘Steve’. I made a note to make sure I give him a call to report her behavior. I saw atleast 2 men walking around doing nothing but yet she tells me there was no one available. There were two men standing in line behind me shaking their head in total disbelief. One gentlemen finally got fed up and said maam I will help you. I said thank you. I was shocked that someone of ‘Estelle’s’ age would be behaving in this manner. As I always say, if you are having a bad day, stay at home because customers have no right to be treated in this manner.

Hot mess. Wait time is 3+ hours. Customer service sucks and the one on Marlboro Pike is worst. Machines always broken… You can never get good service at any auto shop in this area. DONT GO TO PEPBOYS!!!

I just received service from Pep Boys yesterday! It was time for new tires and after shopping around to a few places I decided to go to Pep Boys. Mike, the manager, was very friendly and professional in assisting me with my tire selection. He also shared discount promotions so that I would be able to maximize my savings. When I needed a part unexpectedly while my car was being serviced he drove to pick it up right away.
Keith was my mechanic and not only did he replace my tires he did a basic check-​up on my car sharing updates that were needed. What I appreciate most is that he took the time to explain why I needed this or that and made sure I understood. He also went the extra mile coming across the street to AutoZone to make sure I received my discount for my battery exchange and that it was installed/​reconfigured properly. even came over to AutoZone to make sure my battery I will definitely be back for an oil change and alignment next month.
The entire staff was courteous and attentive. Keep up the great service and you will always have customers like me :)

I needed tires and saw the tire sale on the internet and this location was only about five minutes from my house. I had never been to Pep Boys before and I was pleasantly surprised. I was there about 8:15, they open at 9:00. Mike arrived about 8:30. I asked him if I was at the correct door for tire service and he stated yes. He cam over to my car to look at the tires checked the size and stated he would be right out. He came out with the top three prices so that I could pick so he could have everthing ready for me when they opened. I selected the most expensive tires, I got two tires installed for about $ 350.00, I was floored number one by how nice Mike was and then by the prices.
He notified me that my back brakes and pad were bad so I had them to replace those as well also for a great price. My Mercedes is riding very nicely now. Mike (Michael) was very courteous and made my first experience at Pep Boys a remarkable one. I will be back.

I got my tires rotated here today for free since i bought 4 tires from them last yr. The staff was friendly however, he told me the whole service should only take about 10 – 15 mins. I waited about 20 mins until they got my car in and waited another 30 mins for them to finish it. The service is pretty slow. I recommend coming in the morning when they open to be the first to get in and out.

One headlight goes out over the weekend. As I am leaving work, I realized that I don’t have any headlights. It is dark, so I have to go to the nearest. Thank God for PepBoys! I walk in nearly in tears but the friendliness from the gentleman was golden. they had the headlights that I needed and the price was nice. They only charged $ 15 for installation. Good deal! (or so I thought)
Then, the night turns for the worst. As I am sitting in the waiting area, I see my car. The mechanic pops the hood and literally starts tugging on parts under the hood. All I needed were new headlights, so why is he tugging? I start to get worried because I can tell tell that he isn’t sure about how to put in the headlights. Another mechanic is called over, and now there are two people pulling and tugging on my car. The other young lady and i watched in horror as they pull and tug on the grill of my car. This goes on for 30 minutes. Then, he comes to the waiting room and says «I get off in five minutes, so you will have to come back tomorrow». I am livid because he wants me to drive 20 miles without headlights, and all he can say is «we close at nine». Basically, they stopped working on my car, so they can leave. Needless to say, I had to leave PepBoys and drive over 20miles with my high beams.
The kicker is two other people warned me about Pepboys, but the friendliness in the beginning made me think that everthing would be ok. I am sure this place is great together parts, but the service department needs work. There is no way they will get my business if I can help it.
