History

Established in 1986.

Mashpee Commons is located in the the geographical center of the town of Mashpee, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. Mashpee Commons is designated as the town’s growth center by the town’s comprehensive plan, which calls for the development of this area as a «mixed-​use, town center». In the mid-1980’s, Buff Chace and Douglas Storrs created a plan to transform an existing strip shopping center into a traditional New England town center. This goal was a reaction to the «malling» of Cape Cod and reflected their sense of civic responsibility for appropriate development at the town’s center. The plan for the core of Mashpee Commons was created and permitted in 1986, and the transformation of the original shopping center began at that time.

Manager

Lissa joined Mashpee Commons in early 2003. As marketing director, Lissa coordinates the advertising, marketing and special events for Mashpee Commons. Lissa is active in the community; serving on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod and working with the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce and Mashpee Special Events Committee.

Lissa holds a BS in Communication & Journalism with a minor in Public Relations from Suffolk University.

The Mashpee commons is absolutely adorable. Tons of shops and home décor shops as well as a variety of restaurant to try as well. It does get busy during the summer months so i try to avoid it because it goes get so packed with tourists.

With so many historic vibrant downtowns on Cape Cod I wonder why one would visit a newly created one. Still like many I was passing by and unlike my first visit a few years back I had time to roam. Unlike many outdoor centers I have visited Mashpee Commons probably is different. First, the center is laid out in various streets with store side parking. Second, the center has a mix of national and small business owners. Third, they have a few essential services like a drug store, doctor office, and a organic grocery store. Finally, this center has many stores but I think a small department store would really «authenticate» this center as a downtown experience

After about a billion expansions and renovations, it looks like MC is losing its touch. Parts of the original mall area look old and tired. Signage is minimal and hard to find. You need a bloodhound and a topo map to find the restrooms. I’m hoping they will take the winter to do some sprucing up and be back to their old ways for 2015.

It’s a great place to take a walk and spend money. Mashpee Commons has all kinds of boutique stores and restaurants, but they also have some big name stores like Vineyard Vines, Pottery Barn, and Williams Sonoma. They also have places that provide great entertainment, like the movie theater and The Lanes Bowl and Bistro.
However, if you’re looking for big department stores, you might want to head to Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis.
It’s also worth noting that this place is outside, so dress accordingly.

The «Commons» as the locals call it, is a wonderful place to shop, dine and have fun. I grew up in Falmouth, and went to the Commons at least once a week. I’m happy to say that over the past 20 years, the Commons has really expanded, and some wonderful brands like Pottery Barn and Williams-​Sonoma have moved in over the years.
Whether you need a «Gone to the Beach» sign at Maiden Voyage, a new beach dress at Lilly Pulitzer, a a fancy cigar at Tinder Box, your fix on the new action movie at Regal Cinemas, a funky new bracelet from M. Braunn or a new dutch oven at Williams-​Sonoma, the Commons has you covered. You could walk around for hours and enjoy a great time.
I have loved the Commons my entire life, and can’t recommend it highly enough for a fun afternoon!

This is a decent shopping center, not high end or low end. It is nicely laid out and has very clean public restrooms. There is a decent restaurant selection.
That being said, if this was my only shopping outlet, I would probably be unhappy.

I LOVE the Commons! It is a perfect blend of small businesses and staple stores. The eats are incredible. French, Italian, Asian, Mediterranean and pub. The choices are endless. The shopping can’t be beat on the Cape. Ample parking despite the awkward parking lot layout.
They plan loads of free events that are great for families. They host farmers markets, Octoberfest, a sand sculpting festival, a Halloween parade (for dogs too), an Easter Egg Hunt and free movie nights. Then, there’s Christmas. Christmas in the Commons just doesn’t get any better. There are lights, carolers, horse drawn carriage rides and Santa.
The best part is the atmosphere. The merchants are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. They are smart, educated, honest people trying to run a small business during a trying economy. There is a massive misconception that the Commons is high end and therefore over priced. The products that you will find at many of the stores are one of a kind or of superior quality. Sure, I could buy a cheap frame at Christmas Tree Shops or a beautiful handmade frame from Maiden Voyage. The difference is that I know the extra money spent is going to supporting a local business, a local artist and each of their families.
I gladly shop at the Commons to support the local merchants!

Capey stores… Hot Diggity, Cupcake Charlies, In The Pink, Pottery Barn, Soft As A Grape, Origins, GAP, Talbots, The Black Dog, Vineyard Vines, Ooh! Ooh! Shoes!, Williams Sonoma, Chico’s, White House/​Black Market & Purple Poppy amongst others. A few restaurants, most notably Bobby Byrne’s & also a Regal Cinema is on the premises. A large area to cover walking-​about on a hot humid day, so it’s wise to pick the area of the Commons that has the most shops that interest you and park nearby. They’re open 10am-​9pm on weekdays but don’t make the same mistake we did one Sunday & show up for 10am, they don’t open until 11 & close at 5.

Cute place. I liked coming here when I lived in the cape. Nice to shop and go to dinner and a movie. Not much going on in the cape in the off season so this was fun sometimes

Most stores were out of business. Lots of empty buildings. Only thing open worth going to was the Gap. Which actually was a waste going to since there was no good sales compared to other gaps I’ve been to. Don’t bother going out of your way to go here.

It’s basically an upscale outdoor mall/​shopping village, and we had a great time here poking around the shops. We also ate an excellent meal at one of the restaurants and I am dying to remember the name of it so I can Unilocal it. It seemed to be Italian — but we ordered one of the BEST lobster rolls there.
UPDATE: It is Siena and I Unilocaled it!

What’s not to like about a fake town? It is cute and adorable just like what it would look like if there had ever been a town of Mashpee. The upscaleish stores are nice albeit chains and the local one offs are actually very nice. Walk around and enjoy its small town like atmosphere take in a few local shops and buy stuff from them, see the old Mall stand bys and have a drink. It is very pleasant for a fake town.

It seems as though hoity outdoor malls are all the rage these days, and Mashpee Commons certainly fits that mold. Expect to find most of the usual suspects here: Starbucks, Banana Republic, The Gap, etc. Additionally there are several unique yet hoity local stores, a few hoity restaurants, even a hoity candy shoppe. Most shops here consider themselves to be «shoppes», it’s that kind of place. The movie theater here is kind of lacking as far as modern amenities (wide seats, stadium seating, big big screen… none of these are happening) but hey, they are bringing new releases right to the Cape, so I can’t complain about that.

I love the Commons and Im not just saying that because I have a store there. The previous reviews are correct in that it is a well-​thought out shopping marketplace. The big stores like Banana and The Gap appeal to the younger crowd and Talbots and The Purple Poppy appeal to the older (not necessarily old) crowd. There are cool unique shops like my own, Hot Diggity ;) as well as Picket Fences for kids, Alizee and Sorbus. Sorbus sells some great Prana yoga wear and their owners are super nice and knowledgeable.
Siena has awesome salads and their chef, Pierce is great at his job.

I agree. This is a great place to go shopping or just walk around. Unlike the Derby Street shops which is essentially a giant parking lot with a border of stores that surround it, Mashpee Commons is a thoughtfully laid out area. They have your usual retail stores and a $tarbucks. But to balance the large retailers they have several small cafes/​restaurants and some niche stores. It gets extra points for a Vineyard Vines store.
