Turk’s Seafood Market & Sushi Bar

Sushi is flawless and super fresh. The crowd, especially during the summer, is obscene.

Wasn’t very impressed with our experience here. We were looking forward to some excellent sushi with all the fresh seafood in the area but felt it was just average here.
The layout of the place is strange. The small dining area to the left, just past the little fish market, and the sushi dining area and bar to the right, which seemed to be a bigger space. Since we were going there for sushi, we headed to the right. Unfortunately, the section was closed so an employee, sitting at a table, pointed for us to go to the other side. On our way down the hallway, we saw a side door to a little shop which had a little seafood counter where they sell fresh fish.
The tables are really packed in the main dining area. It seems they could really improve the layout by opening up the restaurant on both sides and connect them somehow. The wait to get a table wasn’t too bad… roughly 10 minutes.
Thankfully the staff was very patient and courteous with us because we spent a considerable amount of time reviewing the menu and finally narrowed it down to 4 rolls. We also ordered a cup of the clam chowder and lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was not that great. I like more substance to it. It was basically a broth with tiny bits of lobster. I can get more thickness and substance from the lobster bisque at Wawa’s! The Philly roll had some kind of wrap around it that my husband wasn’t expecting and didn’t care for it. He really enjoyed his Hamachi (yellowtail) roll though. The rainbow roll was decent and the rock crab roll was pretty good. My son had the shrimp tempura appetizer and although he said the dipping sauce was good, he wished it was the standard tempura sauce.
Given the limited supply of sushi places in the area, if you are looking for sushi, then Turks will fit the bill. If we were to go back to this restaurant, we might consider ordering from the main restaurant menu. Maybe we are just spoiled because we have so many sushi joints to compare to and pick from at home.

Wow did not expect such an amazing meal. I opted for cooked fish thia time and i got the Shrimp Mozambique which comes covered in calamari and i got in on a bed of rice… simply fantastic.
For an app you have to get the seared tuna!

Stopped in for a sushi fix. Called ahead to get our name on the list and waited at 6 on a Saturday, for about 20 min. This place is packed and loud. We always seem to sit at the sushi bar which is a bustling area. I had a nice Kendall Jackson Reserve Chard, my man had a Tequila cocktail. We ordered a few Nigiri’s, a maki roll, two tuna handrolls and a scallop app. Everything was divine and tasty. Presentation is flawless. My man had a 12.00 flight of two Saki’s and then we were done for about $ 100 and change with tip. I could not afford to come here too often but we do love to come during shoulder season for the lively vibe and fresh fish!

Food is really good… Service not so much– no word of a lie the three girls in a our room that were waitressing were on their phones scrolling or texting the whole time. I would say 75% of the time they were are their phones. We had to wait until they looked up for the from the phones to get anyone’s attention more then once. Then when we were done with our meal we once again had to wait until they were done texting to get their attention. Very unprofessional. When we left and walked by the 3 gals not one word– thanks or have a nice day nothing. It’s a shame because the food is good.

I’ll just add to the list of amazing reviews Turk’s already has. This place is the bomb! I make it a point to come here whenever I’m in the area. Honestly, everything is good. Here are my favorites:
— Green Mountain Roll: This is a vegetarian sushi roll, but you don’t miss the fish at all. The flavors combine flawlessly. I love the combination of the crunchy flakes, creamy avocado, and seaweed salad.
— Lobster Quesadilla: I’m not a big lobster person (which is pretty much blasphemy in New England), but I’ll make an exception for this. It’s pretty big, so I’d suggest splitting it with a couple of people as an appetizer.
–Fish and Chips: Classic. Well done. Get the English battered.
— New England Clam Chowder
When my sister came to visit she went to have lunch with friends first and I told her the only place she shouldn’t go was Turk’s because we’d be going there that night. One of her friends who is from Rhode Island had actually planned on going to Turk’s because that’s where she goes for the best sushi– even though it’s an hour away!

I have to say… I’ve been to Turks before and it was ok. Brought hubby with me this time… I Had the noodle bowl with peanut sauce and shrimp. The noodles were «starchy» but the sauce and shrimp were great. My hubby had fried fisherman’s platter… they plated it differently than I’ve seen… with the fish and chip part separate from the other fried portions of seafood but it was fine. The seafood was super fresh and I couldn’t help but steal a fried clam and scallop… I probably would get the scallops and clams again. They were amazing! I also would love to go for sushi sometime. Kudos to them for a varied menu with many options beyond your typical fried seafood-​type fare you see in restaurants in the area. I’d recommend you give it a try…

This is Mattapoisett’s best food! This restaurant is absolutely packed every night that it is open.
Turk’s is split in 4 sections. There is a a section that is a traditional seafood restaurant. This portion of the restaurant offers a decent variety of classic NE seafood dishes, along with some creative offerings. My favorite is the Miso Grilled Salmon. The ambiance is noisy and crowded. The service is competent and friendly enough.
The star of the show, in my not so humble opinion, is the «Sushi Side». This is probably the best sushi, sashimi, & maki I’ve ever eaten. The menu is super creative with different dishes to try frequently. The flavor, freshness, and presentation are top notch! There is also a full compliment of Japanese style appetizers to choose from. Seating can be chaotic at times because it is always crowded. It is a decent ambiance for a first date. Lively enough to keep it light, but aesthetically pleasing enough to enjoy. I’ve been here a bunch of times and have never had bad service. However, said service is not 5 Star either.
The bar has just been added off the «Sushi Side». It is well lit with natural lighting. This portion of the establishment is small but generally packed, and has a bit of a younger crowd than a typical seafood restaurant bar. It isn’t a co-​ed scene necessarily, but a young late 20 to 30 something crowd that is upscale. There is a good variety of cocktails offered and the Red Sox always seem to be on the TVs.
Finally there is the fish market, between the sushi section and the seafood restaurant. They have a good offering of shellfish from their raw bar. My favorite feature to this is the sushi grade tuna for sale at a reasonable price. This is where I go when tuna is on the menu at my house.
Turk’s is not fancy and is probably not an anniversary or Valentines Day (it’s closed for staff vacation then anyway) type of place. However, whether you want to take the family for dinner or get some sushi and a cocktail, at a lively place on a first date, or you’re looking for a place for dinner before a night on the town, Turk’s is your best bet in Mattapoisett.

The food is fantastic looking and the seafood tastes very fresh. The atmosphere is good and it has a great bar area too.
I saw the chef make a very neat dish for a family with kids and my plate looked great too. Service was fast and very friendly.
My only downside and reason I am giving it a 4 is because of the following. The food was fresh but the flavor was not amazing. It was just sub par. The sushi cuts were not even so it was difficult to eat some pieces too.
Overall, it is good sushi and I would recommend it to others. I just will not be returning.

The first word that pops into my head when I think of Turks? Fresh. The seafood served at this establishment is so amazingly, ridiculously right off the boat fresh. I’ve only ever had sushi from here but I will absolutely be back for the fish and chips and a quahog based on all the rave reviews. Now back to the sushi, there are so many different rolls to choose from! We settled on these: Aaron’s sweet and smokey maki, Philly roll, fire island roll and the spicy tuna bomb. The rolls were prepared to perfection and literally melted in my mouth. In total it costed $ 48 for the 4 rolls of sushi, not too shabby. Also not too shabby was the inside of the restaurant. It is very clean, well-​decorated and seems to always be full of satisfied guests and friendly-​ish staff. This place is for true seafood connoisseurs or anyone who just loves fresh fish. Turks will without a doubt excite your tastebuds and blow your mind.

Wish that Mattapoisett Chowder House was still open but this works as a replacement.

We love the Turks! As a Greek, after centuries of Turkish hate, that is difficult to say, but its true. Hands down, the best Sushi around. Today we went with the Karins roll, the lobster California roll and the Tempest… cue soul fulfilling music… it was like Marvin Gaye all over again. If you get a seat at the sushi bar itself, they treat you with a sushi salad, indescribable yet ecstatic… we are always gunning for seats there. The dude making it happen back there is so happy and friendly, we cant wait to go back for more. Also… the waitresses are… whoo whoo!!!

Turks Stuffed Quahog (***).
Loaded within a hinged clam shell in a most unique stuffed ‘technique’ — overstuffed and a knife trims the edge. Interesting to see. Very bready and moist with pieces of onions, pepper and finely diced chorizo. Tasty but minced clams almost missing from the stuffing. The internal temperature was warm, not hot. Tabasco available upon request And served with a pat of butter and lemon slice.

Returned one year later. Sat on the sushi side again.
Food is still delicious. My Daughter loved her fish and chips, I loved my sushi, and my former wife loved her shrimp scampi.
Only downsides:
* we ordered apps that were severed with the meal. Wha — ?!?
* whole place could use a good scrubbing and a fresh coat of paint

Huge diversity of seafood and sushi items on the menu — you could eat here every night for 6 months and never repeat a menu item. Fair prices, great, cheerful and we’ll-trained staff.
On the down side — always packed and quite loud. But I’m willing to put up with that as long as I know in advance.
And the wine/​sake list? I grade it a D+. Very limited and geared towards low price instead of interesting and innovative, as would befit their menu!

So we travel to Massachusetts once a year for a family reunion and Turks has always been a mainstay for some great fish and chips. But after reading some reviews about the sushi I realized I’ve been missing out. This visit I had the Amazing Double Spicy Tuna Roll and it’s just plain and simple some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.

Always happy with a glass of sangria and some cash sushi. The place gets really busy in the summer so be prepared to wait or come early. They aren’t only experts in specialty sushi rolls they also have an array of seafood. It’s my favorite date night restaurant because they always have something new in the menu and the atmosphere is very cheerful.

Second time and can’t wait until the 3^rd!!! Casual and laid back but the food is STELLAR! Great!

Quite possibly the best sushi I have had in my entire life, and I am a sushi connoisseur! The sushi bar is clean and trendy, they have a seafood market, and a seafood restaurant side as well. I have only tried sushi but DAMN ITS GOOD!
I would recommend the Karin’s special which was by far my favorite. Raw scallop roll with spicy crab meat, avocado, and crunchy tempura on top. I believe it was 12 dollars but big and well worth it. All others I have tried met the same wonderful expectations.
If you consider yourself a sushi lover, this will bring your love to a whole new level.
Unfortunately, the only downside was the service. Our waitress did not seem happy to be there. We had empty water glasses for close to 20 minutes but could not get her attention, although we could see her sitting down playing on her phone the whole time. We were her only table so there was no excuse.

Fresh seafood & friendly service!
We had the fish combo with clams, half a dozen oyster, the Karen’s special sushi and the tropical salad. They were all fresh and of generous portion.
I would give the food a 4-​star rating. However there were some flies flying around the restaurant that held me back from giving one more star.
