Nice little locally owned and operated place on Main Street, near the old libraray(Art Incubator) in McAllen. Cute décor. Loved the tea cups, table cloths, etc. Lots of interesting things to look at. Fun place to go enjoy a luncheon or tea, especially with lady friends. We enjoyed the quiche and salads when a group of us ate their recently. The hot tea, with floral blossoms and fruit, was a fun treat, as was the homemade cheesecake and cocoa-flan. I’d go again for sure!

Ordered cupcakes for Valentines & a Star Wars storm Trooper cake for my sons 7th birthday. All the pastries have been amazing. The cupcakes were moist & the perfect blend of sweetness but not to sweet. The storm trooper cake was magnificent. Not only was it beautifully crafted, it was moist & a perfectly blended marble filling. I highly recommend their cakes & cupcakes. Especially for events or party’s. I will be using them very much in the near future. Thank you Mrs. Birdie! You’re awesome!

I’ve passed by this place a few times already & I finally decided to try it out. I loved the ambience, the décor, the auora. The one that helped me must’ve been the owner & she was quite delightful and friendly. The food was great. I tried the poblano quiche with the salad and the guava mousse cake. I recomend the blueberry cheesecake & the cream cheese with raspberry jam crêpe. I will be coming back to this place no doubt(=

Finally went back. Yes I know I know. It took almost a year, but hey, I was distracted with other things and forgot. I decide to make a quick stop here after work to treat myself to some cupcakes and I was not disappointed. I got a s’mores cupcake and a carrot cupcake. I don’t think they normally do a carrot one, but they had left over batter from a carrot cake order so they used the rest to make cupcakes to sell. I’ve gotta say, I think they improved their recipe. The cake was a lot more moist and softer than I remember. The cream cheese frosting for the carrot cupcake was rich and creamy. Not hard or over granulated with sugar. Just perfect. The carrot cake itself had all the flavors and spices it should have. It was extremely satisfying. The s’mores cupcake was also very moist. The frosting was super creamy! It had real toasted marshmallow on it and little chocolate candy bar pieces. My only criticism with the s’mores cupcake was lack of graham cracker on it. I would’ve liked some graham cracker crust on the cupcakes bottom or maybe even crushed into the batter. Perhaps some pieces on top with the marshmallow too. Even without the graham cracker, it was still a very good rich cupcake that any chocolate and marshmallow lover would go crazy over. Oh almost forgot, the lady who helped me out at the counter was very nice. She had great manners and made me feel welcomed. I think I’ll be returning to Birdie Cakes every once and a while to try out some more cupcakes and maybe some cookies.

This place in wonderful! I have only tried their coffee and cookies(2 for $ 1, what a steal!) but they were delicious! The ladies who run this place are also really friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend for anyone needing an afternoon coffee and sugar break!

What a treasure in the Valley! Birdie’s is the most adorable and thoughtfully appointed bakery in town. The ambiance is the true star – from the mismatched chairs to the portraits of dogs in tiaras. The desserts themselves were very good, but some could use improvement. Mini chocoflan: Valleyites love their chocoflan – as the name implies, it’s a dessert of half chocolate cake and half flan. Perhaps because these were mini or perhaps because it was 4 in the afternoon, these chocoflanes were pretty dried out. Red velvet cupcake: Really good and neither the cake nor the frosting was too sweet. I am pretty picky about my red velvet not being chocolatey enough, though, and this one could have used a tad more cocoa. Coconut cupcake: Surprisingly the better of the two cupcakes. I hate fruit-based cupcakes, but this was light and coconutty, without being overwhelming or artificial at all. Cheescake brownie: The star! In the style of the chocoflan, this is half brownie, half cheesecake. Both were moist and the flavors played off each other well. The cashier told me they are award winning, and now I know why. The only other improvements I would suggest are to have the desserts displayed and to have a menu. They have a large display case with a few cupcakes in it, but when I asked for a chocolate one, she said they didn’t have any chocolate today and then named two flavors that they did have but which were not in the case. They also have breakfast and lunch and an espresso machine, but there was no chalkboard or menu, so I had to tediously ask her about each item. Despite these quirks, this would be a great place for Sunday morning breakfast or an afternoon girl’s date. Try it out and support local!

Wonderful! I ordered a traditional round chocolate birthday cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. It was DELICIOUS, the layers were moist, sooo chocolatey with a perfect crumb. In addition to cakes, you will find cupcakes and cute miniature cupcakes for the perfect small bite. Breakfast and lunch are also served and the bakery is just delightfully decorated.
