Best coffee in town (Metropolis is their roaster!!!) And a great coffee shop to meet friends, read a book or have a poetry slam. I love their espresso drinks and always buy some beans for home…

If I have any say in the matter then the Hidden Pearl is the only coffee place I visit anymore. They have the best coffee, the best staff and the best ambiance. We’re always finding new drinks to try (and love) and we always feel welcomed. This is one of those businesses you know you’d miss forever if you moved out of the area!

My husband and me just happened to take a stroll downtown McHenry over the weekend and came across the Hidden Pearl Café. As soon as I walked in, I fell in love with the place. The ambiance is wonderful, background music was great, and my French Vanilla Cappuccino was the best ever!!!
Cant wait till next weekend to come back with my book to read and chill with my coffee.

Wow. What a hidden gem. Stumbled across this place and make it a point to visit when I’m in town. The owner (I think it’s the owner) really knows his coffee and it is brewed perfectly. Food is amazing too.

This coffee house is precious! I stopped in on a weekday at around 2:45pm and ordered a pumpkin latte. Which was mighty good! I returned the following day and ordered an Espresso Bullet. Now THAT was aaammmaaaazzziiinnngggggg!!! Its 4 shots of espresso, caramel and a tiny splash of milk for «color.» I customized mine with vanilla instead of caramel, too. I’m beyond impressed! Love this place!!!

I was there on Saturday this week and I was so glad that I chose Hidden Pearl. It’s easy to miss though but I won’t fault it for that. Great places are hidden little gems!
So anyway, i was there, the ambience was awesome. It was quaint; the menu was easy to understand. The owner was all about making your experience great.
He came by a couple times to ask me about my drink and when I asked if I can change it, he did it so willingly and he told me that he wanted me to like my drink. I was amazed by his service and his desire to serve his customers. The apple pie was awesome too, not too sweet but absolutely excellent.
So go visit! I know I will be! ;)

Wow. Incredible little gem of a resturaunt here. I went here with a couple of my friends on a recommendation and was thoroughly impressed. From the second we walked in we felt very welcome. The staff were very talkative and joked around with us whenever conversation was struck.
When our food came (and it came quickly!) we were amazed. The presentation of the food alone was wonderful. Each bite of my sandwich was better than the last, and the cafè atmosphere only added to my experience.
All over were different sorts of antiques, paintings, and random sculptures. One could choose from sitting on a big comfy chair, a giant couch, or just at one of the tables. All great choices.

Today my friends and I met for a late lunch/​dinner. We were undecided on where to go but then my friend from McHenry suggested we’d go here, as it is one of her favorite places. She mentioned sandwiches and coffee (my two favorites) and I was sold on the idea to go.
When I first walked in I realized the atmosphere has a very modern/​original aesthetic to it. You’ll find wooden floors, some bookshelves with books, and a shelf stocked with coffee beans. There is also a lounge type area with soft chairs surrounding a coffee table.
Since it was my first time there, I had no idea what to order, but the menu wasn’t too overwhelming so I easily decided while I was waiting in line. The man who rang me up was very humorous and really made sure he typed in my order correctly, which is awesome because on rare occasions, people might not here you so they totally forget to input a specific part of your order. I ordered a small caramel iced coffee, and a sandwich called the American. After I paid, the coffee came out within three minutes of sitting down, fantastic since there were two people who ordered before me. The sandwich took a little longer, but I didn’t really care since the establishment was about to close for the day so it’s expected, plus I was having great conversation with my friends.
When the sandwich arrived, the presentation was nice. It even came with chips! I took a photo of the sandwich and uploaded it. It looks small, but to be honest I ate the whole thing but I couldn’t finish the chips I was so full! And I’m the type of person who can eat three plates of all you can eat sushi! So the fact that the meal was filling was a plus!
After finishing our food, they came over to take our plates out of the way. We stayed for a bit longer then we left and were greeted with a goodbye/​have a nice day!
This is how a coffee shop should be. A relaxed environment with great aesthetic, and a great polite staff who knows what they’re doing. I definitely recommend coming here, plus the location allows you to stroll around that part of town maybe if you’re on a date. I’ll be coming back here with friends more often now.

The owners are so sweet and I absolutely love the décor. The name literally does this place justice. Definitely a hidden pearl in McHenry and one of my favorite places to catch up with friends. The coffee is always amazing. The food their is also delicious. Skip Starbucks and panera and give this place a try!

Always stop by when I’m in the area. Plus they have bulletproof coffee, which is awesome. Big fan of their cold brew coffee as well.

Not a coffee drinker although they have Chai Tea that is awesome! Great ambiance. Will be back to try

Great place! Very friendly staff. My husband and I had sandwiches and tea. Caprese sandwich was divine. Totally recommend! !

This is one of my two favourite coffeeshops. The other one’s in another state, so that one’s irrelevant.
It’s cute and has a nice, trendy atmosphere and I’ve never had anything be bad here. One complaint: the sandwich I really want to try seems to be everyone else’s favourite, because they just can’t keep it in stock! But, you know, good for them for making supply and demand their carthorse. Apparently puppies are allowed inside, according to another reviewer, so I might have to bring my little fancyfeet for some coffee once I get a day off!

Just as the name states, this is truly a hidden pearl in McHenry. The sandwiches are awesome, the coffee divine, and the best scones around. My writing group occasionally meets here and the atmosphere is perfect but it’s also a great little spot for musical performances as well. My most favorite place in town to kick back and relax.

Since this place has opened, the service and quality of the coffee and food has dramatically improved. I’ve always loved this place, and it’s always been a really welcome addition to the coffee scene in McHenry (which before it was zero), but they’ve definitely stepped up their game.
Before, one of my main complaints was that if the two owners weren’t there, the coffee was messed up almost every time. But in the months since I wrote the review, they’ve either hired more coffee-​savvy people, or the people they hired are getting used to the machines — orders are right every time now!
I mentioned to one of the owners that I wish they had a lighter roast for the summer months, and he made me a pourover of Prospero, which is a lighter blend from Metropolis. It was really good, and I ask for it every time!
The food selection has gotten better, and they make seasonal drinks for fall and winter. I can’t wait to get back home for the holidays so I can curl up in Hidden Pearl and do my final projects (yay, school).

The staff is very quick and so incredibly nice. I ordered the hot chocolate and my girlfriend ordered the bulletproof. Both tasted amazing and prices we very cheap. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

I’ve been meaning to stop for a while, and Saturday I finally got the chance. From the pictures I think I was expecting something different on the outside so I drove past it. It’s in the strip there and it’s tucked in at the end.
The inside is absolutely adorable! I love coffee shops with all the whimsical coffee signs so it gave me something to look at while they brewed my breve latte. AND they use Metropolis coffee — a fabulous downtown shop and coffee line. GREAT flavor!
I also ordered the Parisian which was absolutely delicious as well! Must come back and try the scones which sound fabulous as well!

Walking down Green St., I had noticed a new place and wanted to check it out. I was with my dog and the owner came out to let me know that dogs were allowed inside. Awesome! So I stopped in for a quick lunch and had a delicious sandwich, The Parisian. The bread was amazing. They even brought a bowl of water over for for my dog.
The décor is cute, a mix of Paris and old Hollywood, which is appropriate as it is right next to the McHenry movie theater. You can sit at a small table or lounge on a comfy couch.
I am definitely looking forward to going back soon and to try their coffee!

I stopped in to The Hidden Pearl today on my way to a meeting. It was a nice 80 degree day and I was seriously craving a good iced coffee. This was my very first time here and I have to say that it did not disappoint one bit. It is a true coffee house and the only one we have in the McHenry area.
I was planning on getting an iced latte this afternoon, however the barista said that the machine was down at the moment. Things like that understandably happen so I asked him what he would recommend on this hot day. He asked if I had ever had a cold brewed coffee. I hadn’t…until today. It was perfection. My vanilla cold brewed coffee was not bitter at all, and had the perfect amount of sweetness and cream. I am already craving another. Might have to stop in there again tomorrow on my way out to Barrington.
The Hidden Pearl is reminiscent of the kind of coffee shop you normally find in Chicago (or in my other favorite city, Nashville.) It has a very comfortable atmosphere, and I was happy to have the interaction with a knowledgeable barista. That is something that you don’t normally find out here.
I think that the prices were more than fair, and the coffee was delicious and expertly made. I look forward to making this my go-​to coffee joint and hope that McHenry supports this local gem (or Hidden Pearl!).
