The setting was great and the food awesome! Will be back! The burgers are great and the ribs were awesome! Great selection in drinks. Quiet on the river makes it outstanding for family and friends!

I found a long black hair in my nachos. And I was really looking forward to my nachos. On top of that, this guy named Tom was really mean. I don’t know how this place is still in business. Save your money and time and don’t come here.

They are what they advertise. Great music and scenery and he service is great as well. I got the blackened chicken sandwich with spicy slaw and loved it. I will definitely come back again in the near future!

I’m surprised at the low ratings as a result of their service, but yes 4 stars, and please hear me out. This review will mainly be about my specific experience here (which was pleasant overall) and man, they know how to make a burger.
My family made a trip to McHenry Dam with the dog to enjoy Memorial Day 2016 away from the city. We were going to find a spot for lunch and luckily drove by this place, saw that they had outdoor seating right by the river, and immediately made a U-​turn for the Snuggery.
When I asked their greeters if their patio was dog-​friendly they said no, firmly, but offered no alternative. I looked at my sister in disbelief and she gently said, try again «it’s about how you ask.» So I asked with a different approach, including a built-​in solution, by asking if they could set-​up a table in the back or on the side, because there’d be no way we could leave the dog either in the car or tethered somewhere far from us while we disappeared for lunch.
The busy staff was just trying to keep things at a steady level of chaos and avoid any curveballs (i.e. setting up more tables on their grassy area for dog families) but alas, they obliged. And we were happy because the grassy area had a great view right next to the river, and there was another family waiting for a table there with their dog anyway; they pulled right up to the restaurant on their boat.
What a life, dockside by the water. We ordered iced teas all around (they don’t have sweet tea though) and then didn’t see our server for 10 min but she tried her best to make her way to check on is when she could. This weekend must’ve been the busiest all year. That was okay though, because we were just relaxing with a view, watching speedboats and jet skis come by.
I had their Widow Maker burger which was phenomenal. My sister got the pulled BBQ pork sandwich with Carolina slaw, my mom ordered the mahi mahi sandwich, and my dad had the Cajun Chicken Sandwich. We had guac and chips as an appetizer, and many of their menu items were standard Midwestern fare.
The burger I had was five stars — it was a perfect medium rare, barely-​can-​hold-​it-​together juicy with a massive breaded onion ring, quarter avocado and crinkle fries. Nearly 1.5−2 hours later, with several rounds of iced tea, full bellies, a scarcely seen server (but we didn’t mind), and just the right amount of sunburn, I think it was an afternoon well-​spent at the Snuggery :)

Has potential! Beautiful atmosphere, awesome location, great food… HORRIBLE service. From the bartenders to the waitresses! Needs a better staff and it could be phenomenal! Wake up ladies!

Have been here a bunch of times for their great burgers. It’s Saturday evening, the first warm and sunny Saturday and it’s busy as hell. Service is really slow. Maybe they are short handed, the waitresses are really running in their way too short shorts. Not happy with this crappy service tonight.

Not family friendly. It is a generic version of Hooters. Very tacky. Pictures of skanky women in the bar area. Butt cracks hanging out… nice. I see the appeal if this was a strip club. But otherwise, not so much. Also, the service is the worst ever. We had to track down our waitress because she would just disappear. Very weird. The food is only so-​so. Tacky place. Such a shame. The river view is nice. Where are the cute male waiters? Why only ding bat girls in jean shorts?

I literally hate this place. It is a waste of a great location on the river location. Honestly the atmosphere is good, location is great, and the food is ok for bar food.
The service however is horrible. Its almost like the waitresses are trained to give terrible service. Or maybe they just hire them that way. Plus the management is arrogant and just as bad at customer service. If you have been here you know what I’m talking about.
I refuse to go back there and am hoping one day they can either turn it around or at least sell it to someone who actually cares about people.

First trip in the non summer season so was not crowded and service was good. Tried the pulled pork tacos and they were good. Wife had fish tacos and enjoyed daugher had pulled. pork sandwich large portions. Menu was huge so will be back to try something else. Decent tap selection as well

I live 2 blocks away, the food as discussed often here is terrible. The views are nice, but the service and management is the worst in McHenry, which is saying quite a bit. Pass this place for anything else.

Love sitting on the patio in the summer and have no issues with indoor dining either. Service is good, food is yummy, nothing to complain about.

Greatest food place in the world. Love their bbq wings and the Scooby snack shots. Also great place to watch the game. If I could give 10 stars I would.

Not impressed. I’ve been here a few times, mainly for the bar scene, and it’s a typical McHenry drunk fest. The bartenders are half dressed, they try to pull off the whole «club» look with laser lights and a DJ, the drinks are pricey, and I’ve even seen some people dancing on tables.
I’ve had the food here before, but it wasn’t anything special for me to remember. The servers all look like they’re freshly 16 and it kind of creeps me out. I really only come here if someone else forces me to.

Came here for the Bloody Mary, but very disappointed. Used to have shrimp and pickle spears and olives and celery! Now we had to ask and they brought three olives and some celery and carrots. But we had to ask. Also ordered the pretzel sticks ($ 6.99) and were very unhappy to see just two show up at the table. Way overpriced. And they don’t have calamari on the menu anymore.
Sorry, but this is my last stop here. Overpriced and underwhelmed

Thank you so much for an awesome event! Your thoughtful and helpful team made our 30^th Anniversary party a delight for our guests and gave us the opportunity to relax and enjoy because we knew Tammy and Cosmo and Arturo had every thing covered.
The food was delicious and plentiful. We were delighted with the quality and quantity on your Italian buffet. The party house ROCKS! Thanks again!

I have been a Snuggery fan since the early eighties. That said when the Snuggery was relaunched in McHenry I was excited, but after eating there I was not impressed.
They had brought back some old menu item’s like the beefeater but it just wasn’t as good as the original.
Fast forward to today, new menu, great new sandwiches! I had Jessica’s chicken, avocado & bacon. It was fantastic! Service was outstanding and it was busy!
We will be back!

Service a little slow but the view made it seem quick. My blackened chicken sandwich was really good and the coleslaw the best I’ve ever had (no mayo).

Versatile menu for being a pub. Don’t order the nachos, they use liquid cheese… yuck. Female waitstaff need to put some clothes on!

I ordered this bad-​boy for lunch… And yes, it was definitely as good as it looks. Adding the Sweet Potato Fries just happened to top everything off! The Snuggery as a whole is a nice joint. However, you’re best suited to get there for lunch or dinner on a weekend during the summer months. If you’re not there for the food, the atmosphere of beer and boats would be sure to please your senses!
