Burnside Air Conditioning, Heating & Indoor Air Quality

Burnside A/​C misdiagnosed our A/​C issue and charged us $ 748 for a part that they get for less than $ 100. We simply want a refund for the TXV. July 20, 2015 Our A/​C system was blowing some cool air from the vent yet the house was not cooling below 79 degrees. The outside unit was working just fine but the coil was covered in condensation. We called Burnside who had replaced our furnace a few months prior to come out and diagnose our issue. The service tech started going down his checklist and told us that the TXV was bad and that it would cost $ 748 to fix the issue. My wife was 6 ½ months pregnant and it is 98 degrees outside, so we regretfully told him to fix it. After the unit was turned off for a hour or so it turned on and cooled a little better but that only lasted one day. After the issue started again, I decided to look up the cost a Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) and they cost less than $ 100. This made us very upset, not only did Burnside misdiagnose our issue, they robbed us by marking up a part almost 600%. I called and spoke with a Burnside manager named David Weiss and told him that I felt taken advantage of and cheated out of hard earned money to have an A/​C system that is still struggling to cool. David told me that they had to business to run so that justifies marking the part up 600%. He verbally agreed they they get the part for less than $ 100. I told David that I understand marking up a part for profit and adding the cost for labor but to take it that far is not fair to anybody. David would not budge on the part but agreed to personally come to our house and look at our system. When David arrived and had time to analyze the issue, he told my wife that they had misdiagnosed the issue. The TXV valve was not what what causing the unit to freeze, it was that the coil was very dirty. David took a picture of the coil to show how dirty it was inside. He proceeded to send me an email with an explanation of his findings and sent over a proposal for a new coil but subtracted the $ 748 for the valve (TXV) that he would have put on with a new coil. To this day as long as we let the A/​C system rest during the day the system will not freeze but if we let it run ²⁴⁄₇ it freezes because the coil is dirty restricting airflow. There was never anything wrong with the TXV. We are out $ 748 on a misdiagnosis and Burnside will only offer «help» if we purchase a new system from them.

Called on a Sunday at 8AM and they arrived by noon. The upstairs wasn’t cooling and they replaced the dualcap on the outside unit. It only took about 15 minutes and cost about $ 470. I’m not sure how competitive the pricing was, but I was happy to pay it to get the unit running again. Dean was the repair technician. He was very friendly and suggested the gold star inspection membership, but wasn’t pushy. If something goes wrong again, they would be the first call I made.

Wow. This is as good as it gets! I am blown away with the outstanding service Burnside has provided. We had to get a new A/​C unit put in; They were able to get an estimate Wednesday afternoon, and were at the house Thursday (the next day) to put in the new unit with an AWESOME team of guys that did an absolute beautiful job. Everything is working way better than before and I feel like the crew that was in our house is like family to us now. This was our 3^rd estimate and was $ 3,000 cheaper than the one that I got with Classic Heating & Air. We had been dealing with Reliant and have had nothing but problems and disappointment and paid money for a rip-​off. This business is how all businesses should be in terms of customer service and quality work. I can’t stop telling people about how happy we are with them. They held our hand and answered every question. Best design specialist, and awesome employees. Woohoo for having cold air again! David is awesome! Can’t wait for them to come out again to do the routine checkup. I could go on and on into more detail but just know that you WON’T be dissatisfied, they will work until you are happy.

Called out 3 contractors for info and prices on replacing a 15 year Lennox system. Clay Hobbs asked the most questions about where our currant system failed us before it broke. I explained the west side of our house is cold/​hot depending on the season. He was the only contractor that went into the attic 30 min worth and came back indicating that we were short on ac flow/​vents to the west side of house. He gave me 3 bids on energy efficient systems which I researched on line so we could make an educated decision on what was best. It’s easy to look at price first because when you are looking at a must have big ticket item it can be quiet eye popping. I felt no pressure at all to make a decision before he left and I told him I needed to talk to one more contractor. The next day the ac installation team was out with Clay and all the installers were very professional and friendly. After 6 – 7 hours of work they discarded all there mess and cleaned everything up and thanked us for the business. Ultimately after all is said and done we decided that all reviews we read on this company were right on the money. Our resources were Unilocal,Angie’s list and Google. Burnside will continue to have our business.

Today was the second time I had Burnside out to work on my A/​C in the last couple of years. They are top notch!!! Doyle was my technician today and he just rolled along with our humor. I called them and they were out within about an hour, just like last time. No extra charges or anything. If you are in the McKinney, Plano area I would definitely give them a call if you have an AC problem. Thanks Burnside for coming through for me AGAIN!!!

Burnside Air is such a professional business! They always get the job done and in a timely manner. I called last week to have some repair work done on my A\C and they were able to come out the same day! Daniel Guzman was the technician that came out as he has performed a routine check on my A\C last year and he was very pleasant and did a great job. He was very quick in replacing my main drain pan and a few other repairs. Always ask for Daniel if you need a repair. I’m sure all of their employees are just as great so you can’t wrong calling Burnside Air! I have used them for a few years and usually purchase the gold package so they come out in the fall and summer to get my A\C and heat cleaned and prepared. I can’t thank them enough for all they do and will definitely recommend them to everyone!

We hired the Burnside company to replace both the inside furnace and the outside unit and we have been very happy with their professionalism and knowledge. Very pleasant doing business with them and you can be comfortable knowing that what they do will last and they aren’t out to rip you off.
