History
Established in 1990.
Jean Gedeon, Artistic Director and founder of the Pittsburgh Youth Ballet School in 1983 and helped form The Pittsburgh Youth Ballet Company in 1990. A charter member and soloist of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, she studied on full Scholarship with Frano Jelencic, Duncan Noble, Frederick Franklin, Nicholas Petrov, Leonide Massine, and Edward Caton, among other outstanding Ballet Masters.
She passes on to students her passion, attention to detail, energy, strong clean technique, hard work ethic and joy of performing. She has former and current students dancing and teaching in over 60 Ballet professional companies across the country as well as Europe.

In 1999, she was elected as a lifetime member to the National Registry of Who’s Who in Washington D.C. and was recognized in Pittsburgh Magazine as an «Artist to Watch» receiving the Harry Schwalb Excellence in the Arts Award.
Mrs. Gedeon has been awarded the «Best Artist/Teacher of the Year» award from the «Chautauqua Institute «and «Best Dance Teacher Award» from Dance Teacher Magazine as well as a feature article inDance Magazine titled «Only the
Best will do, I never give up on anyone».
Pittsburgh Youth Ballet Company was featured in numerous news articles in The Pittsburgh Post-Gazetteand The Tribune Review with Gedeon featured as the Artistic Director. Recently PYB was awarded a Plaque in 2013 by the world renowned «Youth America Grand Prix» as «The Outstanding School Award» as well as several dancers who were invited to perform in the New York Finals.
Mrs. Gedeon lives in Jefferson Hills and has a supportive husband Ken.
