I am totally on the fence on this one… I used to really dig this place a couple years ago. I want to support this local place but I just can’t get passed the fact that I don’t think that it’s that good. I have tried all three things(wings, catfish, tenders) they have to offer and I haven’t been impressed by any of them except the wings. The tenders are way too big and fat. You don’t get good flavor with a tender that big. The catfish is just ok and you can get better down at Soulfish. I was always a Bosses wing fan! This changed on my last visit. They used to charge for wings by the pound, not by the piece. This was much better because a pound is a pound no matter the size of the wing. Now you get a 6 count or a 10 count. My last visit the wings were insultingly small, seriously, the smallest I have ever seen. They were cooked extremely well done so they were even smaller than they could have been since all of the moisture had been cooked out of them. I got the«Bosses Hot Chicken» dry seasoning so there was no moisture whatsoever. The seasoning really didn’t live up to its name either. It was not hot at all! The fact that it is third from the hottest and the eighth one from the bottom of the list I expected some heat and was actually a little worried it would be too hot. What’s up with that? Lastly, I don’t know what kind of seasoning they have started using on the fries but it is really bad. It’s almost sweet and it’s just strange. It is not described anywhere on the menu. I don’t remember it tasting like that. I hope it was a messed up batch something. If it’s the same as it has always been then my tats buds have changed. I am going to try one more time and hope that I see something different next time.

We ordered Bosses’ wings several weeks ago. We had Meals in Motion deliver it to us. Everything was outstanding! The menu is super small, but if you’re looking for wings, fries, or catfish… this is your place!

As a hot wing lover and after seeing most of the reviews here, I was excited to finally visit this place. Unfortunately, I was throughly disappointed. First and foremost, the prices are now higher than advertised here. The regular wings combo costs $ 10 and gives you 10 small-sized wings, a bunch of fries and a dipping sauce. But that’s fine, prices go up. The second thing was the service. I don’t expect to be treated like royalty, but I literally walked in there, ordered, paid, and sat waiting until a girl brought me the order. Through this the only time I was talked to was to tell me the total. Finally, the food. I like my wings HOT, but I didn’t want to go all in the first time, so I ordered what is supposed to be the second hottest sauce, «Questionable Decision». I honestly think they may have confused my order, because it was not hot. Not one bit. On a scale of 1 to 10, a 1. On top of that, the wings themselves were very dry and kind of cold, which coupled with the cold fries and how long my order took(less than 4 minutes) tells me that I may have gotten reheated food. Even ignoring all that, the food was average. No great flavors, nothing in particular to write home about. I don’t know if I’ll give this place a second chance.

I brought my boss and the whole office in for the Hallmark Holiday of Bosses Day. With such a short menu, the food has to be good. It didn’t disappoint and everyone was treated with hospitality. I had the dry rub chicken tenders, thought I would like them, but they just weren’t my cup of tea. But can’t argue with the price. I’m excited to come back and try the catfish next time, as folks in my party remarked on how good it was.

It’s worth fighting the Poplar Avenue traffic for — I promise! Wings, Tenders & Fish all good stuff!

Had lunch there this weekend. Pretty nice spot. Great place to have a quick meal with no fuss. Very small menu with about 3 – 4 items. Staff was very nice and made sure you had everything you needed. It was my first time, so I tried the hot wings, which were good. I look forward to trying the other items.

2 Dads and I took out sons here for wings. Before we ordered the owner told us be quiet due to other customers being present. This occurred again at the end of our meal. Boys can be loud but they were not that night. My family walked away sad because this is the last time we will eat at Bosses.

The«Pure Hotness» wings didn’t disappoint even though I wasn’t sure initially. The sauce is Habanero-based and mixed with a good amount of vinegar. Like my experience at Max’s Sports Bar, the heat didn’t hit me at first. My initial impression was that it was spicier than Bosses’ hot wings but not overwhelmingly strong. However, as I ate more of them, the heat increased significantly. The«Pure Hotness» definitely kicked in on the fourth wing that had me sweating. I managed to get through all five wings by drinking 1 ½ glasses of water and plenty of ranch dressing. I’m not sure if I could have made it through a whole order of «Pure Hotness» wings because of the spiciness. While they’re not as spicy as Max’s, the wings were more than hot enough for me. In terms of taste, the sauce and the wings were really good. For this portion of my meal, the«Pure Hotness» wings changed my view of Bosses in a very positive way. As much as I liked the«Pure Hotness,» Bosses’ honey gold wings provided a relief from the«heat.» In terms of taste, the mix of honey mustard and hot sauce made the wings very sweet while maintaining a small degree of spiciness. In my opinion, they were a little sweeter than most honey gold wings that I’ve had. Overall, I liked them just as much as the«Pure Hotness» wings. The sides that I had during this visit were decent supplements to my lunch. The fries tasted the same as the ones I had earlier and were even better with dressing. Speaking of that, the ranch dressing didn’t impress me as much as Bosses’ blue cheese dressing. Not that I had any complaints, but the ranch dressing didn’t stand out in terms of taste like its counterpart did. Still, it was as good as most places that serve it and went well with my meal. My husband and I LOVE bosses. The wings are the best in Memphis. The sauce is neither too thin nor too thick. The french fries that each order comes with are perfectly seasoned. The restaurant is clean and service is quick and courteous. We are always looking for an excuse to get Bosses.

The last time I dined here, Jerry Lawler and his(I assume) wife came in for a casual lunch. So that right there deserves 5 stars. But that wasn’t my first time here. I dine her quite often, because it’s terrific. I get the tenders, and they are by far my favorite tenders in town. YES, even better than Chings! The service is always very good, the place is clean, they have big TVs for sports, a good beer selection and the owner is very engaged with the customers. The décor is very«Memphis» too! All in all, Bosses is a great dining experience for lunch or dinner when you want to kick back and have a good time with your friends. My recommendation: the tenders dipped in honey gold sauce. The fries are good too!

I’ve been here a couple of times. My order has always been on point, but my wife feels like she’s cursed when coming here. The fries are great as long as they don’t over season them too quickly after coming out of the fryer… otherwise you will get mound of the seasoning caked on. I think they should look at switching out their tenders. The tenders are almost like a giant chicken breast sliced in half. I wish they would offer a couple more items. Their sauces are good and the service has always been prompt. I’d really give them a 3.5 if that was an option.

This place is pretty darn good. We called ahead with an order on a Friday night and they were steamy and ready to go when we showed up shortly after. For 8 bucks you get a pound of wings with a decent amount of fries… seems like a pretty good deal to me! We also ordered the fried green tomatoes, which were nice little slices with a great tartness and weren’t overly battered. The wings themselves were crispy, flavorful, and large. We got the hot and hot honey. The hot honey was a little sweet for me and neither were as spicy as I would have liked. Honestly I could probably handle their hottest flavor if this is the hot, so I’ll try that next time for sure. The fries were decent, and were covered in some kind of bright red spice concoction. The blue cheese had large chunks in it(which I love) but was a little runny to effectively stick to the wings(which I don’t love). Overall, it was a really good deal and I have some leftovers for later.

Bosses has some great food, but their greatest asset is consistency. I know that every time I visit, I will get high quality food, short waits, and polite service. They have nailed the formula. I am a fan of the Wing combo HOT with an extra 10 Bosses Hot Chicken rub. The tenders are tasty too. Get a side of Questionable Decision or Honey Hot to dip them in. Great prices.

Bosses is boss. Sure, it’s not the lovable crap-hole known as Ching’s or Gus’s, but it’s still boss. Here’s why: The flavors here are what you expect them to be. When it says hot on the menu, it’s not«so hot that you burn out your nostrils, lose tastebuds, and prepare for a 2am involuntary stay in your restroom where terrifying noises are made» nor is it «so mild you wish you had opted for what they claim to be the atomic sauce.» The honey gold is on point. Heck, even the ranch is good, and that is important to any wing-eater that knows what they’re doing. The fries have a weird seasoning on them, but they’re still good if you’ll give them a chance. You get a lot of them too. Speaking of getting a lot of stuff, you order the wings here BYTHEPOUND. If that doesn’t make you want to run over here and eat as many wings as possible just to have a scientific understanding of your wing eating limitations, I don’t know how you get out of bed in the morning. Not only that, the prices are awesome! Should you feel like bringing a date here(because of course you want to see your date’s face covered in wing sauce) you won’t be breaking the bank. Even better, they have tenders for people who aren’t into eating chicken off the bone. That means I can take my wife to a wing place! A couple of things I didn’t like: (1) The location sucks. It’s really hard to get in the parking lot and once you get in there you don’t have many parking spots to choose from.(It’s off Mendenhall and Poplar.) (2) THEYDON’T HAVEREALSWEETTEA. This is Memphis, guys. Don’t bring that weak pre-fabricated crap into a restaurant. It’s gross. Hire someone who can make sweet tea.

Good, reliable option if you’re in the mood for chicken wings or tenders. Honey hot is the way to go for the sauce. Service is always friendly at the counter, especially when the owner’s there. Clean place with plenty of TVs, though it can be oddly not-crowded at times which kind of dampens the vibe. The only issue I have is the lack of variety in the menu. Why can’t they do more sides? Fries + coleslaw is a solid combo, but it gets pretty repetitive and isn’t the best pairing necessarily. I’m not quite sure what else would work, but other southern-style sides would be nice, or maybe even a veggie option(though I dunno how well that would well). Changing things up would be interesting to see. With the drink, you’re looking at about $ 10 a combo. Not bad and on par with Gus’ just across the tracks once you factor in a tip.

Bosses is MEMPHIS! Their wings are the BOSS and they have a lot of value. Their sauces run on the weaker side so, I’d go one more up on what you normally do to get the heat you’re expecting. The owner is SUPER friendly and will gladly discuss Memphis sports with you. Don’t come in dressed in Tennessee orange though. I’ve heard he will refuse to serve you! Of COURSE, I’m kidding, maybe! ;)

Thank you Kyle! I saw the review, and even when I’m not a big fan of eating chicken with the bone-in(yep, I’m that weird) I just loved this place. Yes, it is very clean, the girl that was there was very friendly, very nice, the service was very fast, but the chicken is SO good! The wings are CRISPY, the tenders are almost a whole chicken breast each(an order comes with two), it is moist and well seasoned, AND the sauces are very good! I’m mexican, so is my husband, so we always go for the spicy and hot sauces. I tried the Hot and its not that hot, but its so Yummy, and for my kids(they don’t eat spicy foods) I got them the honey bbq tenders and they loved it. The fries are not that great, but hey, more tummy space for more wings and chicken! ha-ha! The cole slaw is very tasty too! We will be coming back ;)

I was not impressed with this place. Perhaps it is just too simple. My expectations were high based on my fellow Unilocalers and since it was taking a while to prepare. This is usually a good sign, but the final product was disappointing. If you are going to serve common food that is as ubiquitous as chicken wings, you had better be doing something amazing if you want to keep a Poplar address for very long. On the positive side, it wasn’t bad, but only just a bit above average. The facility however was very chic and well designed. A good feel inside, well lit and obviously very clean. Probably wont go back though. Peace Bosses and good luck.

This place is super clean and the chicken is GOOD! If you get it to go they punch holes in your container for the steam to escape so they don’t get soggy. I always get the honey hot sauce, so good! Although more of a to go place they have 4 TVs with sports on and always give preference to Tiger and Grizzlies. Beer is super cheap, 2 bottles for $ 5. Prices are very reasonable and the menu is limited, I appreciate that they focus on being really good at what they do make rather than try to please every taste out there.
