Specialties

The tutorial program of the Bowie Center is able to support students with any academic need. We serve those who struggle in school and need academic support, as well as those who aim to improve test scores and/or move ahead of the traditional curriculum.

We tutor students of any age and in any subject. Currently the center has students as young as four up to adulthood. We go to great lengths to match each student with an instructor who will best meet his/her needs. Each student who schedules regular ongoing sessions will have the same tutor for each session, allowing a connection to develop between the student and his/her tutor. When a tutor isn’t available for a session the student is allowed to cancel a session, reschedule for another time or choose to have a substitute tutor.

The Bowie Center uses specialty programs in reading and math, both in the day school and tutorial programs. The Wilson Reading System has a great success rate in supporting students of any age who struggle with dyslexia or other reading disorders. Moving With Math is our program of choice when working with any student needing math support from lower school through the beginning of pre-algebra. We train each instructor for these specific programs.

Tutoring for test preparation is a need of many students. Whether a student is in need of support for an upcoming exam, wanting to make a high ACT score for college admission, or working towards a teaching degree in need of help on the PRAXIS, our pla

History

Established in 1998.

The Bowie Reading and Learning Center began in Nashville 15 years ago. Its founder, Dr. Bobby Bowie, wanted to have a center that would specifically address the issues of reading that were holding many students back. Making a commitment to keep Bobby’s legacy and vision alive after his unexpected and tragic passing, the Bowie Family moved The Bowie Center to our hometown of Memphis in the spring of 2006. Bobby’s dream will continue to live on through the success of each of our students. The Bowie Center has now reached way beyond Bobby’s initial reading support to now include all subjects from Preschool and beyond college. The tutorial program of the Center is able to support students with any academic need. We serve those who struggle in school and need academic support as well as those who aim to improve test scores and/or move ahead of the traditional curriculum. In 2007, we became AdvancED accredited and are extremely proud to be part of this organization. AdvanedED holds all of

Meet the Business Owner

Molly C.

Business Owner

The Bowie Center is part of our family. My father Dr. Harold Bowie and my brother Dr. Bobby Bowie founded the center initially. Sherri Bowie Spain, my sister, now heads the day school while I (Molly Bowie Cook) oversee the tutorial programs. Sherri and I both began as school teachers over 30 years ago before moving on to administrative positions at different MAIS schools. Sherri took over the day school 9 years ago after Bobby’s tragic passing and has made her own mark in bringing the Bowie Center to a new level. Under Sherri’s leadership the center has grown into two complete businesses, the day school and tutoring center. I joined her taking over the tutoring side of the center in June 2013.
