Interim Restaurant & Bar

Absolutely awesome dinner tonight at Interim! Dan has done a fantastic job since taking over the management of the restaurant over the last year. Wonderful food, top of the line service. Highly recommend for a night out, special occasion, or just looking for a new great spot to dine.

I’ve had this on my list for at least 2 years and was disappointed tonight. From the bartender who took 15 minutes to ask us for our drink order, to the hostess and bartender not effectively communicating about if the bar tab was easily transferred to the table and treating my friends I in a condescending manor about it. The waiter was «nice» but rushed us the entire night. The décor, lighting and atmosphere was all a let down. So, live and learn I guess.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We had a great time! Food and service was fantastic! We got reservation to sit right in front of the Kitchen, it was clean fast and entertaining!

Dinner there last night was the best I’ve had in a long time in Memphis. New chef David Krog is knocking it out of the park! Delightful atmosphere with the open kitchen. Low noise level that was very appealing. We sampled quail stuffed with boudin on a bed of collard greens, fried oysters with a creole mustard sauce plus a marvelous arugula salad, chicken with green beans & roasted potatoes, roasted scallops with mussels & risotto and sautéed halibut. The quail was my personal favorite but all dishes were exceptional. Our server who’s been there for years was knowledgeable and informative. This is chef’s 6^th week in the kitchen. Can’t wait to go back!

Appetizers were delicious! I ordered their special burger and it was delicious too, however I asked for onions instead of pickles and they brought some raw onions. All was fine but they charged me $ 2.00 for the onions? At this price level of a restaurant I was surprised. Service was just OK. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed.

I had the lamb shank. It was dried out and no flavor. It really looked like it had been warmed over and over. I should have sent it back but I hate doing that.

I stopped by this place for lunch with co-​workers who raved about the burger. I was impressed with how nice this place was and I love the open kitchen atmosphere in the main dining area. They offered a nice lunch deal for maybe $ 13 that included a soup, half sandwich, salad and dessert, but the reason I came was for this amazing burger. Bad choice. It was not an amazing burger. and it DEFINITELY wasn’t worth the $ 16 dollars they charged for it. I honestly had trouble finishing it as the meat was so bland. This was also the case for the other 2 guys in my group that got the same burger. The one guy that got the lunch special said his dessert (Chocolate cake) was worth it, but the white bean soup he didn’t eat after the first bite.
I am all for expensive food and am very willing to pay the price, but if you are going to charge the price, the food HAS to be up to par.

LOVED. The service was phenomenal, mussels to die for, and duck DIVINE. The pastry chef made strawberry shortcake the night that we went, and I’m almost ashamed to say that I nearly finished both my crème brûlée AND my bf’s strawberry shortcake… It was THAT good! Making reservations was fairly easy, and parking was plentiful.

Food was good. They were able to accommodate a party of 12 and customer service was great.
Note: I did call weeks in advance to make the reservation for our large party. I recommend you do the same :)

Consistency. That’s what sets the great from the average. I imagine for every negative experience there is 100 positive. This is simply my first and only.
The beloved Mac and cheese: flavors were great, ham awesome touch. Temperature? Cold. Wasn’t given enough time in the ol’ fire box. Was warm in some spots but others cold. Again, seems to be a signature but it was off the mark for us.
Duck breast: not bad. Flavor there. Red wine reduction was salty. Made the whole dish difficult to eat. I loved the bok choy and polenta cakes though. Just had to avoid the sauce.
Salmon: was good. An all around ok dish. Didn’t wow you, didn’t disappoint you. Unfortunately you could do that at home for less.
Service: very good. Attentive waiter. Smiled and appeared to be having fun. No complaints there.
Skipped dessert cause it was time to give up. I didn’t go in with expectations. Just thought it would be better than, say, Houstons. Let me end this by saying there was probably people next to me having the meal of a lifetime. I’m glad, we need good restaurants in Memphis. If you’re going to be the tops though, you have to bat closer to 1.000. My thoughts only, give it a try and make your own opinion.

Went there for a weekend brunch– which is open for brunch on Sunday’s only. Parking and access are easy.
The décor is business/​causal with the bar right by the entrance; and an open concept kitchen which faces the main dining hall.
We started off with mimosas and crispy oysters. The oysters weren’t impressive though; I’d go for the duck confit next time.
She got the Oscar Benedict and I got the fish of the day (Salmon)… Both entrees were well cooked and presented. Delicious. Our server was efficient and cordial.
We skipped dessert and went for Mexican ice cream @ Michoacana (which is amazing btw)

I haven’t been to Interim often since I moved downtown and I rarely ever went there for lunch. Both are very unfortunate! I drove out today to meet a colleague and was wowed by the specials and the service provided by Ms. Julie.
Julie politely timed her description of the day’s specials and provided an attentive, but not doting, level of service. The soup/​salad/​sandwich/​dessert special was a beautifully presented tangle of greens, properly dressed and garnished with strawberries and orange segments. The grilled salmon sandwich was served on a very tasty French roll with pickled onions and pickles. Dessert was a teasing taste of peach cobbler that I would have liked more of, but had already filled up on the first three courses. IMHO, this meal is quite a steal at $ 13! Although I didn’t get a chance to try the other special of the day, tuna tacos, my dining companion assured me that they were quite delicious.
It’s been too long and I need to get back to Interim more often!

I love the blackened gulf shrimp salad– yum shrimp avocado romaine lettuce tortillas and roasted peppers yum factor all day long

Nice place but food was not impressive. I had the salad lyonnaise and lamb shank. Nothing to write home about. Actually the shank was nearly tastelessly bland with a watery juice that thinned out the cheese grits and the squash was undercooked. Service was spotty and not prompt
I left hungry and disappointed.

Well today the executive chef is leaving. I wish J. the very best!!! Thanks for making my wife and I feel like family here. The crew he leaves behind is awesome but the place is not going to be the same. This year… they lost the best chef ever and their manager. They will and are missed.
The food today was great as usual. Dinner last night… the scallops were fresh and fantastic. But change is in the air and as I get older I don’t care for it so much.
The Interim that I knew is gone. Hopefully some of the old crew will stay and the place will continue being a great neighborhood meeting place!

It’s nice when you walk in and nice when you stay. Easy going atmosphere and the menu is very pleasing. Didn’t look too heavily at the menu but talked to the chef and he talked all about it.

Nice restaurant and a good experience. Like the open kitchen. However, the dining room was a little loud, and our group came on a Wednesday night and not on a weekend.
For appetizers, we shared steamed mussels, fried oysters, and the mac n cheese. That mac n cheese is to die for. Several people added it as a side to their meal once they’d had a taste of it as an app. The fried oysters were very good, and the mussels were good, but the same type dish you’ll find at many restaurants.
For my meal, I had the caesar salad and the vegetable plate. The vegetables for the evening were green beans, asparagus, a roasted potato/​sweet potato mix, and squash au gratin. The caesar salad was good, and the dressing was a little unique. It had a slight bite to it, in a good way. The vegetable plate was filling, and everything was good, but the potato mix and the au gratin were both a little salty.
I had the chocolate mousse for dessert, and it was sublime. Creamy and light, with a rich chocolate taste and a couple cookies to add a bit of crunch.

This place is fancy, heck the parking lot is fancy. As in every other car is a Lexus haha. The menu is high priced, but this is also a high quality place. I really enjoyed the low key ambiance. It is definitely a spot where people come after work to cool down and relax.
Also my waiter was a little «distracted» if you will, but the girl going around filling people’s water was the best. And I say that because I worked out before and literally drank 10 glasses of water. She should have hated me, but she just laughed!
Now for the food. Yummm. It was exactly what I needed :). I got the grilled chicken for my entrée. The potato gallete and mushroom sauce complemented the chicken so well! We also got the chocolate cake for dessert. Not only was it beautifully presented, but it was absolutely scrumptious!
I definitely won’t be coming here every other week since I’m 23 and on a budget, but this place is great when I’m in the mood for a nice dinner!

Was alone for the weekend and decided to go to the bar and have a nice meal. The bar was packed but I was able to find one open seat, but soon after 9pm the bar started to empty out. I noticed by the conversation and interactions the the bar had quite a few regulars. The bartenders were very attractive, friendly and attentive.
I ordered the beef tenderloin, with carrots and mashed potatoes. The beef was cooked a perfect medium rare plus and the flavor was amazing. the mashed potatoes were more creamed and served with an amazing mushroom gravy that complimented the beef perfectly. It was a great dinner and a wonderful experience. I look forward to going back to try more of the dishes at the bar and to have a true sit-​in dinner.

I remember when Wally Joe’s was in this location and on a recent visit home to Memphis, we visited the establishment that’s been in this location since he left to start his new venture, Acre. While I really loved Wally Joe’s I didn’t have the same enthusiasm for Interim.
I sampled the fried oysters which were good but certainly not great. The celery root soup however was delicious — creamy, rich and smooth. When our waitress mentioned that one of their specials for the night was salmon, three of us got that. It came with brussel sprouts and goat cheese and beet ravioli. Although the seasoned, crispy side of the salmon was perfect, the lack of seasoning on the other side of the filet made it a little bland. The ravioli was creative but it also lacked seasoning.
We ordered desserts to go — peanut butter crème brûlée and the molten chocolate cake. I’ve had all types of crème brûlée including black and white, vanilla bean, chocolate and banana and this was probably the worst crème brûlée I’ve had. The peanut butter was just too thick so the consistency was off.
I’m not sure what to make of Interim. The service was mediocre but the manager was great. He came over to apologize for the kitchen’s difficulty in getting one of our meals hot and then he comped the meal, which was nice. The dining room was nearly empty on a Saturday night but the bar in the front of the restaurant was packed and there were even people waiting for a seat. Sitting next to the open kitchen allowed me to see the most popular items and definitely the kitchen was churning out burgers like crazy. Maybe sitting at the bar and ordering a burger is the way to go at Interim. It seems like Memphians have already figured that out.
