History

Established in 1987.

Since 1987, we have been providing top quality beauty services to residents of Memphis and surrounding areas! We are celebrating over 25 years in business and are proud to be recognized as industry leaders in trend and fashion. Our purpose is to make life more interesting, more information and more beautiful for ourselves and everyone around us.

Our owner is one of the founding members of International Hair Color Exchange, American Board of Certified Hair Colorists, National Cosmotology Association and a member of the prestigious global organization Intercoiffure. We were awarded «Ordre de la Chevalerie» in Paris, France for excellence as a salon, a business and a community service participant. We enjoy supporting local fashion shows for Carnival Memphis, City Beautiful, Symphony League and other charitable organizations.

Business Owner

Sheila Wilson, President of Master Design, is a creative, innovative person who has over 30 years of experience as a stylist, salon owner, educator, mentor, and colorist. She has been acknowledged as one of the top five female stylists in the country. Sheila was given one of the highest awards in our industry on September 12, 2009 in Paris, France. She was given the «Knight» award from Intercoiffure, the most prestigious beauty organization worldwide with headquarters in Paris, for her dedication and educational involvement in the US. Intercoiffure represents the best salons in the world. Sheila has been trainging colorists and cutters for 20 years and looks forward to meeting you soon!

I love this salon! My mother saw the calligraphy cut on the news and she wanted to give it a try. She has the hardest times with haircuts with her thick hair. After getting hers cut she convinced me to give it a try. I will never ever get it cut another way. The calligraphy cut is with a unique blade not the typical scissors. It cuts the hair at a precise angle. But technical jargon aside my hair was instantly fuller, lighter, and blended. I have extremely fine hair and I hate having a blunt looking cut. My hair is so soft I can’t stop touching it. But to further convince you this cut is worth the try, I woke up washed my hair and blow dried and it still looked exactly how I wanted. How many times have you left the salon and loved your new hair only to come home and not be able to make it look that way again. This haircut is perfect for easy wash and go or style for fancy night out. It’s not the style of cut that makes it wonderful. All lengthens and shapes benefit. It’s simply a wonderful cut. I have shoulder length hair and can wash and go or style and it still looks good. Shelia cut my mothers and Christian cut mine, but anyone trained in the calligraphy cut will do an amazing job. This is the only salon in the area that trains their hair stylist with this technique. I highly recommend! I could not be any more happier with this cut.

Master colorists but don’t let them rob you! When they say, «put this conditioning treatment on…» Ask if it will cost more. Also, don’t let them blow dry your hair, that costs more as well. I let them color my hair and it is BEAUTIFUL. But I only let them fool me once with prices

I really like this place. I have only used the hair salon, so I did not want to rate as a 5-​star since I cannot review the other services that are offered, but the staff are all so much fun, and pleasant to converse with. We use Michelle, and I have referred her to my entire family and any friend that asks. The hair salon is set up well. Not sure how I feel about the art gallery that is located as you walk in the door, but it does add to the ambiance. A little pricey, $ 60 for a 30 minute hair cut, but I can rest assured that the job is done well and I will look good!

This salon is awesome, from the moment you walk in the door, until you float out in relaxation. The artwork is divine! Appointment times are very accommodating and do not take a month to get in. It’s perfect for days when you just need new hair, new nails, something waxed, a stress-​relieving massage or just to be pampered! The staff and stylists are all excellent, friendly and courteous. My former stylist moved out of town (without informing any of his clients) and my husband and I were very fortunate to meet our new stylist, Michelle, this spring. We couldn’t be happier with her talent and ninja hair skills! She does my hair, my husband’s hair and our 8 year old daughter’s hair. If you are looking for a new salon, you should definitely give this place a call!

Wow is all I can say. This place is definitely «Master». Everyone in the salon is kind and courteous. Sheila can cut hair like no one’s business, but I guess that is what 40 years of experience provides. Melanie’s colors are all beautiful. Michelle’s makeup skills belong on the runway or in the next photo shoot. Christian’s color application is clean and neat. He has a great sense of humor and will make you laugh. I have never seen a person walk out of this salon without a smile on their faces. Bravo to Master Design.

This place is amazing. The stylists and staff are not only amazing but super friendly as well. They are always keeping up on the newest trends. I love going there to have my hair done, get a facial and a massage. A total pamper day.
