I would give more stars if I could. The best meal I have ever had in a restaurant. We went on a Tuesday night where they have buy one filet mignon and get one free. The steak was cooked perfect, the sides of green beans with bacon and mac and cheese were excellent. The rolls come with honey butter. From cocktails to dessert it was fantastic. The service was quick and oh so friendly. If you are in Memphis and you want a great steak, this is the place to go.

Came here on a Tuesday night for their 2 for 1 filet dinner. The steaks were the best part of the dinner, very tender and delicious. Garlic mashed potatoes were ok. Unfortunately our server was not very cheerful and that kind of put a damper on the evening. I liked the ambiance and the other server seemed very nice and outgoing. Without the 2 for 1, it would have been a bit expensive for what you got, but all in all, it was a nice dinner.

Ordered chopped salads, filets and sautéed spinach. The food and service were excellent. The filets were tender and perfectly cooked.

Took a group from work for Two ‘fer Tuesday 8 oz filets. We all agreed that it was possibly the best steak we have had in a long time. Medium rare to perfection. So tender it practically melted in your mouth. We also had most of the sides that we all shared and enjoyed. Staff was attentive and pleasant. We all commented that it will be our new go-to for entertaining guests, or just to treat someone to an excellent meal.

Good steaks and cool atmosphere but service is lacking. Went twice a few years ago and would be 4 stars but service has declines and prices have increased.

I am traveling for work and happened to find this place walking. Was not on my radar initially based on the reviews. Is it perfect? No. No restaurant is. It happened to be Tuesday and they have the 2 for 18oz. Filet. I sat at the bar. Service could have been better but I would come back every time when I am here every 6 months for work. I will check back in July.

We decided to have dinner here tonight just to try something new even though the reviews weren’t great. We had bacon wrapped shrimp, bacon deviled eggs and wedge salads to start, and all of those were great. Everyone in my party had steak for main course except me. I had the pork chop which was one of their specials for the night and it was great, juicy and flavorful, also nice to have a pork chop that didn’t have a sweet glaze. According to the others the steaks were a little lackluster. We had mashed potatoes, macaroni, and creamed corn for sides and those were all tasty. Service was great too. Only negatives were that they were out of chicken(?!) and grey goose which is our vodka of choice. Overall good experience.

This place Sucks ! Actually the food was not bad, although it took 3 tries to get my steak cooked right. Also who runs out of vodka? Seriously on a Saturday night? Do yourself a favor and do not spend your money here. Pony tailed male server is a total dickhead. I travel for a living and I will not be back here. Fair warning ! Try this at your own risk !

The quality of this place has steadily plummeted within the past year. I used to be a regular at this place and would be at the same seat at the bar twice a week for a steak and an old-fashioned for dinner. Used to be unbeatable food and drinks. The owners evidently forced the manager to make some changes and staff members began to gradually disappear. Most of my friends stopped coming when they discontinued the burger — I stayed a regular for the steaks and the awesome bar staff. Apparently, the owners felt more changes were necessary, and the menu went from refined to mediocre. Some dishes stayed the same but with dumbed-down names. The manager had to dismiss the chef for some reason and the quality of the food went to a death spiral. Then the owners replaced the manager with some creepy and extremely rude, inept cronie. The food? Golden Corral leftovers would have been better. I went back recently and was BEYOND disappointed. All of the staff I had known from my time as a regular was all gone. The kitchen area was crowded with what appeared to be the worst recreation of the three stooges — the food orders coming out looked like overcooked roadkill. The bar staff was extremely in dire need of training and is probably better suited taking orders from a drive-thru window. I ordered one old-fashioned, and the poor girl had to go look up the recipe in a recipe book. It took her 7minutes to make it, and was the worst thing I have tasted — turpentine would have tasted better. She was severely lacking in costumer service skills at best. I did not even dare order food. I paid for my drink and left after wasting time with poor service. It has come a very long way… down. One can only help but wonder: owners, do you just want to run your business into the ground? There are far more better options for dining in the area to settle for this poor, poor place. I miss the mesquite from a year+ ago. Get rid of the weirdos working there now, make peace with the old staff and chef, reintroduce the old menu, and explore some marketing ideas to get your brand some exposure… then you will get my hard-earned money. Until then, enjoy watching it go to your competitors

I don’t understand all the hype for this place. It’s extremmmmmmmely expensive and the food is mediocre. Not a fan.

I’ve been going to mesquite ever since I moved downtown. The food has usually been great and the service excellent. There is one item missing from the menu though that was there when I first started coming, and that’s their burger. The burger was hands down the best thing on the menu. In all honesty me and my friends stopped coming as often because the burger was removed. i am giving them a one star review due to what happened last night. I went to mesquite last night and the new manager there was very rude not only to me and my friends but also to the staff. After my experience last night I will not be going to a once favorite spot.

We stumbled upon this place last year and had one of the better meals we’ve ever had. We went back this year and they did not disappoint. The food is upscale but the prices are reasonable. They don’t appear to do a lot of business… that is perplexing. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

Decadent deviled eggs and duck breast appetizers were delicious. Ribeye steak was perfectly prepared, tender and juicy. Will order without sauce next time. Not needed

As a basis for this review, this is my first(and so far, only) time going. The restaurant looks like any other I would expect from a downtown restaurant; has character and represents the type of establishment you’d expect to pay for a downtown, city meal. Food? Well, I’m conflicted. The ‘bacon wrapped duck’ appetizer was rather tasty. I did enjoy it. Wasn’t over done, nor over seasoned. For dinner, I ordered the Ribeye, which I love. I’m always torn between Ribeye, Prime Rib Roast, or Filet… Toinight I chose the rib steak. it was good. I want to like this place, because I’m new here and want to find an amazing steak place. Not to say it’s bad, because IT’S NOT! It’s just not amazing. Value. that’s the crux of the review. How does it fare? In regard to output dollars relative to return on investment. Tricky to answer. I’ve had better cheaper, and I’ve had worse more expense. Mesquite falls in-between; good, expensive. This is a portion of the review that’s difficult to address. What I will offer, is that I spent closer to $ 100 than I did $ 50 on a main course, appetizer, and drinks, and I left underwhelmed but not disappointed. Service. I believe that is where this location requires critical improvements. The staff is very attentive to their clients/patrons, but only if you get their attention. On a first impression, it seems the staff only acknowledging your presence when they catch you bored and looking around for service. My friend and I experienced an incredible absence of our server(who also doubled as the bartender that evening) throughout the evening. We were seated at a table, not seemingly attached to, nor in the section of the bar. Why couldn’t we be transferred to a server? My impression… Would I return? Not likely unless it’s a consensus. But is the menu priced accordingly… Food is good. Value? I’m not going to get too involved with price because it’s so subjective. Entrées are posted. If it’s in your budget, try it out. I certainly will.

It is rare that I am overwhelmed by a restaurant. For this restaurant, I’m not worried. I was underwhelmed. The food was served to us cold, and tasted plainly. I ordered the veal loin with succotash as my side. Both items were fairly Luke warm when I received them. The veal had a nice taste, but was tough due to the coldness of the Meat. The Succotash had too much cream. I would not recommend this restaurant.

The staff is really the only reason I give this place 4 stars. They go above and beyond, in my opinion. Even with a party of 20+, they split our bills and made an effort to make this easy on us. However, the food is lackluster. I got a sausage and cheese platter… great cheese selections, but seriously where is the sausage??? I got a parmesan encrusted steak, and it was actually LESS impressive/tasty than one I would have made at my house. Seriously underwhelming. If you want steak in downtown Memphis, go to Double J’s. Much better food, and a more entertaining staff to boot.

We had a great time at the Chophouse. We went on Sunday to try their $ 13 steak deal. I had the parmesan steak and garlic mashed potatoes… they were both great. The restrauant is very nice so I would suggest being a little dressy. The staff and cooks were very nice; we sat at the bar and talked to them for quite a while. So if you are looking for a nicer place to go out for dinner I would definitely give them a try.

I went here for a business dinner and thought this was one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. Therefore it was worth every penny, and much better than the Folk’s Folly experience I was about to have later… I’ll go back at one point when I’m in the area…

Good wedge salad. Nice atmosphere. Not very busy. Called ahead and they had two place settings ready at the bar so we could watch the finals playoff game. They have a Sunday night steak special that was very good. 4 or 5 types of steak to choose from and a side for $ 13. I had the parmesan encrusted flat iron steak and sauteed mushrooms and enjoyed both. Over all it was a good Sunday night dinner and will probably take some friends next week and see what they think. Would probably be a 3.5 rating if possible.

THISIS A STEAKHOUSE, RIGHT?! That was the only thought I had in my mind when i entered this place. I was excited, I love steak. A steak, a salad, some form of potato, and a bottle of wine(or a couple glasses of bourbon) is one of my favorite meals. The ambiance is elegant and refined, making it a great place to take a date. My date and I had just come from an intimate«concert» at the Center for Southern Folklore(you should either check out my review of the place, my review of the event, or just go check it out for yourself. The center is amazing, and puts on some pretty exciting events to boot), and i was eager to ensure that she was a carnivore(i WILLNOT date a vegetarian). The waitress was polite, and attentive, and I was blown away by the rapid appearance of our food. I ordered the bacon-wrapped filets with bechemel(?) potatoes and broccoli, my date had the petite filets. I order them mid-rare, and there in lies the problem. My steak was too undercooked to be considered rare. Rare is a cool, red center. My steaks had a slight sear on the outside, and were literally raw on the inside. I would expect this from, say, Outback, but not from a «quality» steakhouse. I would expect a steakhouse to know how to prepare a steak. Save yourself the time, money, and effort, go to Ruth Chris.
