Try another place for sushi or hibachi! This place reminded me of a Chili’s that serves sushi. Inattentive wait staff. Poor ambience with Céline Dion and Shania Twain playing in the background. There were cobwebs and dust visible next to our table. The sushi was okay, but not as fresh as I’ve had at other places in Memphis. We won’t be back!

This is one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. While the sushi was decent (the only reason my review has two stars), the chicken teriyaki tasted like fishy gym sock. I kid you not. It tasted like they cooked fish and then didn’t clean the grill before cooking mine and my friend’s chicken. We complained to the server saying it wasn’t what we expected and she said «Ok, sorry» and walked away. She didn’t offer something else; she didn’t ask if we wanted to speak to the manager; she didn’t even refill our drinks. Not until we got our checks and paid did we see a manager. Even he was reluctant to help. The food was ultimately refunded and taken off the tab; we paid for our drinks and sushi and proceeded to leave. To make the manager’s life easier, I said we’d be willing to settle for gift cards for the amount of the entrees (like I said, the sushi was decent), but he didn’t. That’s okay, though. We won’t be back.
Update: 2 hours later — food poisoning.

First time here, I liked it. The restaurant is Huge and their parking lot is always full! We had good service and they were super quick. Had a good array of sushi. They have over 50 sushi rolls! I love how you can get half rolls if you don’t want to order full. This way you can try more sushi. My only issue was that most of their Sushi rolls are baked or fried. I am not a huge fan of fried sushi. But was pretty good.

I went there on Friday February 26, 2016 at 3:15 p.m. The young lady on the bench was on her cell phone possibly texting. She did not acknowledge me when I walked in. That’s a no-​no in any customer service job!!!

I would like to give 2.5 stars. The service was great but the food was NOT.
As of today, I will officially never go here again. First, I was seated at a table with a dirty dish. When my server came to take my drink order, stated first he could remove the dirty dish. I will say he didn’t hear me. So, I get my hot green tea & it was nice. Asked for a second time for him to remove the dirty dish & he did. I ordered a bento box with the salad dressing on the side. Salad comes with dressing on it. My guest asked if I was OK with it, & that is when the server noticed it wasn’t right. It was a good thing the server graciously brought me another salad with the dressing on the side. I didn’t like the dressing at all, but my guest… well, let’s just say he had a little salad with his dressing. Yes, there was a pool of dressing at the bottom of the bowl.
The bento box arrived & the temperature of the food was fine, but OMG, I honestly believe I have met my salt intake for the next week. I didn’t add any salt & used very little low sodium soy sauce, but it was just extremely salty.
I am back at working trying to drink enough water to quench my thirst & yet not float away.

So this place has gone WAY down hill… The staff is rude, told can’t sit at the bar because the bartender can’t make drinks, even though it’s dead at the bar… Once we sat down the service was slow at best… She brought the wrong food and never brought our wine…
Avoid at all costs and go to Sekisui or Sakura!

Of course I had fun because I was with my sister. We sat at the bar and service was quick. My problem is that I ordered vegetable fried rice. The purpose of me ordering that was because I’m not eating meat. So why are there eggs in vegetable fried rice? I was so disappointed.

I just had the bento box «B» for lunch and am very disappointed. I’ve eaten here twice before and it was not bad, not great though. But when I’m looking for something clean and quick for lunch Japanese is near the top of the list. However after today I’ll strike this place off of the list. The miso soup was ok but the chicken teriyaki (I think it was teriyaki) was well, different. It wasn’t bad it just didn’t taste like teriyaki. The sautéed vegetables were so mushy and over cooked, I didn’t touch them. The California Roll was the only thing I ate and it was alright. Don’t they put avocado in a California Roll? Well maybe they were just out. Well gotta get back to work. Happy New Year. Café 1912 tonight!
PS my server was nice but she never asked about food and and it seemed pointless to tell her.

My husband and I eat here quite a bit when we are meeting for a lunch date. Although the hostess desk and service can sometimes be off, the sushi is usually very good! I love how many different rolls they have offer!

My husband and I were impressed. We did not wait long for our food and beverages. The sushi was delicious! Please try the Dragon Roll. The atmosphere was perfect with music. We will return. The service is great! Everyone there is a team.

Went to Osaka on Friday night. It was busy as usual and had to wait 15 mintues for a table. Our server was ok. As always the sushi is delicious. The sushi didn’t look as perfect as usual but thats probably because it was a Friday night.

Just sat for 15 minutes for my friends birthday with 8 people (we even made reservations) and never even got a glass of water –after complaining once. Then as we were walking out two waitress were playing on their phones! I’ll never go back. Good food too. It’s a shame.
Oh and the hostess wasn’t nice either– told me they were ‘really’ busy and they’d be right over — on a Tuesday night?! There was barely anyone there. When I told her we were leaving she rolled her eyes.

Located what it used to be Bookstar this Osaka is probably the most lavish of all the Osaka around Memphis. Though sometimes those bright colors can be a bit overkill.
As for a Japanese Resturant, their main hibachi and sushi are just Ok. Nothing too special. Though their Udon, on the other hand, is probably one of the best in town, mainly cause it tastes authentic. So If you are a noodle fan, I suggest you come here and try out their Udon with Tempura. I always get the Shrimp Tempura Udon; plus the broth is perfect during those cold Memphis Winter season.
The service was ok in my opinion during all of my visits here, but I can see some mishaps due the size of the place. Above all, it’s a great place for a family night out.

I arrived about 9pm on a Friday night. My party was seated promptly, and the server appeared within minutes. We ordered sushi appetizers, and a few main entrées. Food arrived quickly, was tasty, and overall we had a pleasant experience.
I noticed that many of the negative reviews focused on poor service. We did not have that problem at all.

Ok, I’m partially being a bit mean for pushing their 5 down to 4 stars. It’s only because they closed the portion of the restaurant that we wanted to sit in. But… Let’s get to the grit and grind of the actual review!
1!!! Walking in to Osaka, you notice all the fancy lights and the beautiful seating arrangements. Want to sit at the bar? NO PROBLEM! Take a seat at a tall table for 2? Feel free!!! Have a group and need a bit more room? Find you seat here!!! Or want a cool seat where the seat themselves are built into the ground? Sit yourself down now! Either way, you’ll be amazed at everything that you are seeing when you’re in this amazing place.
2! The service! We had a great waitress. She brought drinks rather quickly, then the sushi, then the actual food. VERY QUICKLY! Even gave us a few laughs while taking the order. We came into Osaka somewhat late and walked into music chiming in above us. I mention this because our waitress hummed some good tunes while walking back and forth. It was nice!
3! The food!!! Now from the Crunchy Shrimp Roll, to the Chicken Fried Rice, and the Hawaiian Fried Rice (Chicken, Shrimp, and Pineapples in fried rice), it was all GREAT! I asked for an extra 2 servings of Osaka Sauce and drizzled it over the top for a great flavor! It. Was. Awesome!
We also had a 10% off to use, so that made it a major plus as well. Just as a side note. :)

Awesome lunch specials… you can get fried rice, chicken and steak, vegetables, and salad or soup for $ 15 or less. Also they have $ 2.50 sushi plates for lunch and I’m all about a good deal. They have a good variety of sushi and I am usually never disappointed with the quality and appearance of it. They have my favorite fried rice in Memphis. The chicken and rice itself has great flavor. My favorite rolls include the Osaka sauce. If you haven’t had it with your sushi you must try it. If you like spicy that is. Overall I really recommend this place for good drinks, sushi, and hibachi. The service is not something to compliment on but it’s also not something to complain about. But, I have had some
pretty rude waiters/​waitresses there. The atmosphere is upscale but laid back at the same time which is unusual but cool.

The sushi belt is nice. A lot of different types of rolls are available, and they make more pretty regularly. I do wonder if they keep track of how long a roll has been on the belt. Surely there is a time limit before they have to toss it? I was there for about an hour and saw a tempura shrimp roll pass by the whole time.
My friend asked for gluten free soy sauce and they looked at him like he had two heads. Guess a simple «no» just wouldn’t do.
This place gets ripped often about the service. I think the only time we had TERRIBLE service was the opening week. I can’t really say we have ever had great service, but not bad enough to not go back.
