I loved this church so much! I grew up in a southern baptist church deep in «the country», so the experience here was a bit different than what I’m used to. Everyone was so kind and welcoming that I didn’t feel out of place though. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by two women who handed me a program and told me where to go and what a pleasure it was to have me. The service was beautiful. The pianist is incredibly talented and I loved listening to the gorgeous music throughout the service. The Rev. was young and intuitive and had a beautiful, well-worded message. There was amazing art all around the church, which was one of my favorite aspects. Afterwards, the Rev. Came to talk to me and thank me for attending. He asked how I liked the service and told me I was welcome to come back any time. The environment there was so welcoming and open; I certainly think I’ll be back.

It feels weird reviewing a church, but I wanted to post my thoughts. I visited Shady Grove a few weeks ago as part of my search for a place to call my spiritual home. From the moment I walked in the door I was swarmed by kind people who thoughtfully made sure I knew where I was going and what bulletins to take.(I know it’s not complicated, but it was a nice gesture!) After I sat down an older lady explained to me that I could take part in Communion even though I was not Presbyterian, which made me feel even more welcome. The sanctuary has an edgy vibe to it, and the church exhibits a lot of local art around the building, which I loved! The service was intelligent, progressive, and had a strong element of the holy. I’m glad to see an LGBT-affirming church. Even though I have moved on, I’m sure I would feel welcomed at Shady Grove again.
