History

Established in 1974.

Southland Landscaping, Inc. began over 35 years ago by John French. John smiles when he describes himself as that kid you see pushing a lawn mower through the neighborhood with a milk jug used as his gas can. His grandfather gave him a 3.5 horsepower Briggs and Stratton lawn mower from Western Auto in 1974, and the business began.

Over the past 35 years the business transitioned into doing apartment communities and commercial properties. John says he feels very blessed to have over 75 apartment communities as well as several commercial and industrial properties. Southland Landscaping, Inc. offers full 12-month landscape maintenance programs tailored to fit each property. These services include mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, shrub care, lawn weeds and fertilization programs, mulching, plant installation and design, and tree care (one service offered that most other landscape companies subcontract out).

John smiles when he describes himself as that kid you see pushing a lawn mower through the neighborhood with a milk jug used as his gas can. His grandfather gave him a 3.5 horsepower Briggs and Stratton lawn mower from Western Auto in 1974, and the business began. John’s business philosophy is «you reap what you sow». He always strives to give the very best service possible, to treat people fairly, and to do what you said you were going to do. He considers the trust managers have in him to be sacred. He considers his relationships to managers to be long-term; in fact he has some management companies that have placed their confidence in him for over 20 years. Keeping the manager happy is job one. Sometimes this means going the extra mile.
