Sugar Plum Consignments

I gave this place 4 stars for a few reasons! It’s seems as if this place only take things that a partially new, worn maybe one or twice. I was considering taking a few items here to see if I could get money for my designer pieces but the prices are based off a ⁴⁰⁄₆₀! Maybe in the future I could bring a few items here instead of giving them away for free. One of the ladies here asked me was I interested in anything but I can’t wrap my mind around purchasing things that can’t be cleaned or sanitized to the fullest such as shoes! The prices are great but I would rather save my money and purchased new! I fear foot fungus ;(

Super cute shop with great prices and selection. Lots of high-​end designer duds, mixed in with some more mainstream labels, and some vintage thrown in, too! Everything was neatly displayed with easy-​to– read price tags. All the sales staff were helpful, friendly, and attentive. I work nearby so I’ll be back!

I found me a fantastic new consignment store. Really good variety of higher end clothes, good variety of jewelry and great shoe selections! I often find clothes that still have the price tags on them so I really feel like I’m getting a deal on new clothes. Name brand purses can be found here too (in the counter top case).
Not a fan of the location as the parking can be limited. The store space seems a little tight and the dressing rooms are always full when I go in, which is usually on the weekends.

I don’t often go back and update a review I made but I should let everyone know how well the management is doing at their job. I made a customer service complaint and the owner/​manager stepped in and handled it in the most perfect and professional way. I’m really glad because I do love this store. I always find adorable pieces for a reasonable price.

Rude, intolerant staff and do not ask to look at the designer purses to check for authenticity as replicas flood the market. Go the Plato’s closet or Hope resale — much better service.

I stop by Sugarplums often to troll for bargains on higher end items. I follow them on Instagram to keep up with new arrivals. Sugarplums is a high end consignment store with an approachable feel

This place is great and everyone is super friendly. I was at the junior league gift showcase and the ladies all knew me despite that I’ve been busy working and haven’t been in a few months. I love that they share new items on Facebook. I have gotten some great new to me items here. Great variety and selection, these ladies have a good eye and it shows.

I’ve been walking by this store for months (I work out next door), but it took winning a gift certificate to finally get me in the door. And wow! I have been struggling to find shoes that fit, and I found a gorgeous pair of suede Prada cowboy-​style boots for $ 62.50 (half off the original price), as well as some slingbacks that are perfect for work (just $ 4). On my last visit, I snagged a couple of super cute knit dresses in the $ 14 – 20 range. The biggest find so far was my boyfriend’s — a beautiful shearling coat with fur trim, consigned all the way from NYC. The owner was extremely helpful, offering to call the consignor to negotiate the price, something I thought was really above and beyond. I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on the coat and just love it!
I also brought a couple of items here to consign, including my old Coach purse and a small fur piece. I was quickly directed to the appropriate area of the store, given the paperwork to fill out, and asked to hang my items and browse while they were inspected. The owner appeared, announced that they were accepting my items, and gave me a receipt that also listed the prices and my consignment number with instructions on how to check their status online. I think they sold within a month — when I was in the store last weeked, I asked for my balance and was promptly given a check for the amount I was due.
Overall, I am very impressed with Sugar Plum, for both shopping and consigning. They have quality merchandise at prices lower than department stores, and made it easy to sell my unwanted items. It’s a win all around!

Wow, Ya’ll! I don’t often update reviews but Sugar Plum Consignments has improved drastically since my last review.
I visited yesterday and I was floored! First of all, the store has expanded to the space next door. They really needed the space. If you read my last review, my major complaint was that the racks were crowded. Well that is no longer an issue. Also, they have really stepped up there game as far as the quality of the consignments. They have a much larger selection including a decent amount of high-​lever designer items. A much better selection of shoes too! The prices are great. I scored a real leather jacket for eight bucks and a pair of Frye sandals for just 28! Kudos to management for turning the store around. I am now a fan and I will be back soon.

I concur with the review that talks about how this store has changed since it opened. I am a very loyal customer and typically stick with one consignment shop where I buy (and sometimes sell) a good portion of my wardrobe. I am the type of customer who will pay a bit more to be loyal– just ask my manicurist and hairdresser– and my husband. (hehehe)
I hadn’t been in the store for about 11 months because I was pregnant. The first time I went in post-​pregnancy, the store had doubled in size (great for them) but the employees were in the back with a stash of new bags that had just come in. The employees were talking about which ones THEY were going to buy. I was a little annoyed about employees buying the best stuff before it hitting the shelves but I blew it off.
This time I went in and asked if they would come down a bit on the prices of 2 items ($ 6 on a $ 46 purchase). Mind you, EVERY SINGLE TIME I had been in there before I had done this and the owner had marked down the prices of both new arrivals and other things (to the tune of sometimes 30% on an item). This time the owner not only acted insulted but treated me like I was the problem. She actually tried to whisper to me, «if I give you a $ 1 or $ 2 discount, I have to give everyone one.» (Yes, like a cheap car salesman would say). This is just one of the many condescending insults she hurled my way. She acted like I was yelling (I was speaking in a normal tone) but I wasn’t going to whisper. Mind you perhaps it would have been less of a problem for her if she didn’t have multiple employees standing around watching or if she didn’t proceed to walk around «apologizing» for the «scene».
Negotiating at a consignment shop is not only normal, but it is good practice for everyone involved in the transaction. Just Google it and there are tons of articles on it. I also want to say that i was not stuck on the discount. It was the way I was treated when I asked. 1. I was told that they NEVER had negotiated with me. (basically calling me a liar) 2. When the owner came out she acted irritated and her demeanor (intentional or not) was just plain insulting. (It is totally acceptable if she didn’t want to negotiate on those two particular items but ask me if there is something else I was considering that she could negotiate on etc…) don’t behave like the act of me negotiating is insulting. I actually would have paid full price if she had treated me properly.
I’m just glad I saw this now because I am getting ready to consign my size 6 wardrobe from when I lived in New York City. (I’ve given up ever being a size 6 again, despite that I have the cutest clothes!) I also have the cutest Prada clutch I’ve realized a mommy just doesn’t need. I am SUPER glad I didn’t consign it to them (and yea, if someone offered me $ 50 for a skirt I consigned for $ 52, that would work).
Sad cause I like the shop but happy that I will find another one with an owner I love!
Addendum: This owner posted a bizarre «comment from the owner» which is blatantly false, funny to me and offensive to others. (BTW– I’m not taking it personally because in reading her other responses, it seems similar in nature)
I asked if she could «do $ 40 for the 2 items?» These are carefully crafted language and tactics I use when negotiating. I always bring at least two items and I actually had a third in mind (a cute little colorful purse) that had been on the store shelves for a while that I was hoping we could bring into the equation if necessary).
Before I spoke to the the owner, the salesperson had no idea what I was asking about, so I asked her to get the owner (because we had done this before.) The person was a little snotty but nothing horrible.
The owner’s comments about how my experience went are also bizarrely untrue. She caused this incident NOT her staff. I feel the way she approached me was confrontational. I had to look around other staff to see her. It was weird. I knew it was going to be bad right then. In hindsight I should have not even bothered. I knew where it was going, I should have walked out and never turned back.
My experience before the incident is not as she stated it. I had a whole conversation with the blond lady. I very pleasant one. She was the one who was helping me a few weeks back when I overhead the conversation about the bag. (I think she was embarrassed about it too).
Her response to me here is downright insulting. Hiding behind your religion to justify your bad behavior is poor forum.

always find the best deals at sugar plum… they had the 75 percent off sale and i went ballistic!!! tons of designer for less. snatched up a pair of gucci loafers for 80 bucks!!! now my eye is on the christopher kon purse!!! can’t wait!!! i loooooovvvvveee sugarplum. and melissa and marzina and faith with the extra bundle!!! all the gals over there!!!

Whether you want to spend $ 1, $ 20, or splurge on designer brands– Sugar Plum has something for EVERYONE. There is not a better boutique in Memphis. In fact, I have not been able to find better service or a better welcome anywhere in this city. I am always greeted with a smile, always offered a fitting room (even if I have just one item in my hands), and always leave happy. It is a different store every time I go, as they tag new inventory every day they’re open. They constantly update their Facebook site, so I check it as much as I can to see pictures of new items (okay, I’ll admit it– I check it pretty much every day). Their consignment process is so organized, and they always have treats or cold water (or tea in the winter) or something fun or cute going on (concert ticket raffle drawings, daily «blessings», Ladies Night every Thursday, etc.) I can’t get enough! Melissa and the ladies who run this shop are so creative. I give Sugar Plum my highest recommendation. What a fun place to shop (without depleting your wallet), and a fun excuse to clean out your closet!

Had the worst experience ever at this store! I was already warned before I went that they were snobby and rude! I was never spoken to the whole time I was in there. I went to the dressing room to try on a few finds. I walked out and they had closed the STORE! I was locking in!!! They said they close at 7 and it was only 6:10. I even had to let myself was not told sorry for being locked in… I was however told when I left to have a great day… Umm really??? Yall just locked me in this store! And it’s supposed to be a high end shop… They had target clothes! Nothing against target but if I wanted target clothes I would just go to target and get them cheaper then they had the clothes. If you dare try the store but just be prepared… On a somewhat good note. They did have some cool name brands but were way to expensive for it to be used.

I have been shopping at sugar plum since 2010 I got their living social and their groupon when they were just in the starting out. I love them. Until I was pregant I would shop there monthly.
I have always have an awesome experience with all of their staff. Melissa remembers me and says hi to me everytime I see her.
My husband and I just went recently because I knew they had tried carrying maternity at one point and I wanted to check in and see if that was the case. Melissa talked with me and was wonderfully pleasent. They were not carrying any maternity at the time but she told me they would as soon as the expansion opened. So the plan is to consign some of my maternity in a 2 months.
I purchase all my clothes for work there. I always find what I am looking for and more. I just adore their dresses. They are a prefect play to buy spring and summer dresses and when I was in last week they a ton of gorgeous prom dresses. It made me wish there was a place like this 10 years ago when I was in highschool.

I started shopping at Sugar Plum in late summer of 2011 and have *never* had the bad customer experience that a previous reviewer mentioned. In fact, Melissa and her staff seem to greet everyone w/​a smile. The store *was* overcrowded until they rearranged things a few weeks ago, but now it’s easier to access items. The prices are great… Shopping here is sort of like going to a boutique T. J Maxx — if you can’t decide whether to buy something and you wait more than a day or so the chances are good that it will be gone… i’m still kicking myself for not buying a pretty blue sweater i saw last August (when it still was v. hot and I wasn’t in the mood to buy fall/​winter.)

I have been a customer of Sugar Plum Consignment since late 2010. I have always had great interactions with the owner & associates. I’ve referred a number of people who have also echoed great things about the store. In the summer/​fall of 2011, the store started to get more notoriety after being featured on the local news and the owner took on more staff. There was a noticeable difference in the new & old staff. The new staff was not as friendly and seemed to only be shopping for themselves. They would ignore customers even if they were standing right next to you looking at a rack. They’d walk in front of customers while they were looking in a display case & never acknowledge they were there. When customers approached one with a question, she’d say «You can’t get an additional % off» without even listening to the question. Around December, I grew tired of watching this behavior & stopped going.
Early January, the store was featured again. I went by the store to offer my congratulations to the owner. She wasn’t around so I just browsed the store. The same behaviors were still going on. I’ve gone back a couple more times since it’s on the way home but the owner was never around then.
Today, I went to the store and owner was there. I asked if I could speak to her to the side to let her know what I’d observed. SHE WENT CRAZY! She said that she always greets me except for today because she was in the back. I told her that today when I walked in, one girl put some stuff on the rack that I was looking at & she never spoke. I told her that I was looking for a vintage clutch that was in the case & the same girl walked between me & the case twice. Melissa raises her voice & goes into this major rant that she’s doing the best she can. She says that they can’t give everyone specialized VIP service and they only walked past me because they were looking for a vintage Gucci tote for another customer. I told her that it’s not just today & that it’s happened numerous times. She then goes to each associate & ask if they greeted me. Because she’s yelling, they all say «yes» and look as if they are afraid she’s going to do something to them. She then walks back to where I’m still standing in the back room and says «See, they did speak to you!» Completely confused about where this went wrong, I tell her again that I’m just bringing it to her attention. Still yelling, she replies «I think you’re just being overly sensitive! Have you thought that maybe you just haven’t been paying attention when you come in here? I’ll fix this right now!» She then walks to every customer (8 people) and loudly asks «Are you doing great today? Is there anything I can help you with? Are you enjoying yourself here at Sugar Plum?»
I had no words for this exchange. I just left & I will NEVER step foot in the store again. I feel like so many stores have lost the art of customer service. I told Melissa (the owner) that I didn’t aim to put anyone on the spot & I brought it to her attention so she’d know what’s going on when she’s not around. All she had to do was bring it up at the next staff meeting. She didn’t have to make it a ‘me vs. them’ situation.
