Super 8 Memphis / Downtown / Graceland Area

Lawd have mercy on you if you stay here! I don’t even know where to begin.. I believe they stole the pics for advertising from somewhere else bc the Internet sold me on this hotel and upon arrival I wasn’t sure if I was going to be robbed, kidnapped or something messed up happening. .my room had so many ladybugs I thought they were roaches, I only had one knob on the air unit and called the front desk to ask her how to cut it on she said «take the knob off the other one and switch it» WHAT THE HELL… oh let me not forget about the nice view I was told about LOL (a empty scary haunted looking building) if you just need to sleep for traveling or having a one night stand with someone you don’t care about THIS IS THE SPOT… upside the lady at the front desk was awesome and great hot shower

UPDATE: WE ARE SO ITCHY AFTER STAYING HERE! HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS AFTER STAYING a AT ANY OTHER SUPER 8! UGHHH!!!
I always stay in super 8s or motel 6 when I am traveling. It’s a cheap place to stay and they allow dogs. I’ve stayed in super 8s all over the country and haven’t had any real bad experiences. I am not expecting any sort of fancy experience by any means. But this experience was pretty gross even for my standards. We asked for a smoke free room but the room smelled like smoke and they left cans of deodorizing spray on the floor of the room. The tv remote half worked. I found 2 roaches in the room. I also found some fleas on my dog in the room. I know they are not from her CUS she is on flea meds. The rooms are all accessed through outside which is fine except there was broken glass on the walkway. The free breakfast here was pretty sparse. And one last negative. The parking lot is a pain to turn around in. OK so on to the positive. The staff were all very friendly. The place is surrounded by old abandoned buildings which I thought were really cool. The beds were comfortable. not any more so than other places tho. The shower had good water pressure. It’s convenient to get to from the highway. I would have preferred to have stayed a little more on the outskirts of town. would have saved money and it would have probably been my usual experience.

Worst hotel in the world. Room were nasty. Big spiders, broken AC, pool was dirty. In the middle of nowhere. Empty building around. Had to put a chair by the door because I didn’t feel safe. Never again will I stay here.

If you like creepy abandoned buildings then this place is for you.
As soon as you get off of the highway, you’re directed back underneath the highway to a dingy, dirty, seedy area of Memphis where this motel stands.
As soon as we park, there was a homeless man sitting outside of the lobby. Awesome. The girl at the front desk was nice and checked us in no problem. Our room was in the back of the building so we drive over and check it out. This is where the real red flags shoot up.
We open the door and our curtains are half falling down, the towels in the bathroom are dirty, the toilet is dirty, the sink plug isn’t actually in the sink but next to it, the «non-​smoking» room smelled grossly like cigarettes and the list goes on and on.
We turned right around and booked a room at the crown plaza downtown (for not much more than this place might I add) and it was WONDERFUL!

We had a higher than average price at about $ 80 a night, wouldn’t recommend it for that but for the average $ 40 or so it seems like a reasonable place to stay. Breakfast was not bad, hotel staff was friendly, taxi service was timely and very reasonably priced.

Omg where to start… we were driving and called for directions the girl at the desk sounded annoyed that we called! I know everyone uses the web but she had NO customer service skills and just kept saying in a «tone» exit 12C! Like we knew ugh… Although this motel is close by to hopping Beale street the area is a bit scary and the room was clean BUT the heater made a huge noise like car starting, the tv only had reception on 1 channel and very noisy area surrounded by abandoned buildings. …You get what you pay fir it Was Cheap! !

I stayed two nights in mid-​March of 2014. My girlfriend and I bought a random hotel at a ~$ 48/​night price point (via
) and ended up with this one. We expected the worst after reading the reviews and seeing the surrounding area that it was in but our opinions were drastically changed once we stepped in.
First of all, there was a ton of carpet and other room elements piled up outside so I assume they had just finished a remodeling. This was a good sign. We checked in quickly with no problems, super friendly staff. Our room was clean in all categories and I can’t remember anything that didn’t work. The shuttle service is wonderful and their continental breakfast was a really cool experience.
I’m guessing they may have taken to heart the low reviews and turned their establishment around, because I found no negative reviews relevant during my stay.

Plain and simple, this place was disgusting. I agree with the reviews who say you shouldn’t be expecting a four seasons type of vibe. I went into this place expecting nothing more than a bed and a shower. That’s all I needed.
The place was dirty. And not dirty in the sense of, «dingy and old stuff, but they make it work.» This was dirty as in dirt and trash. The shower in the first room leaked all over the floor and through the wall into the room. We changed from that room to another. That room’s shower at least had water pressure but there was hair all over it. The towels in both rooms were gross. They were stained and smelled like mold. The whole room smelled like mold.
The only good thing, the bed was comfortable.

Since I was planning an impromptu trip to Memphis, I looked for the most reasonably priced hotel or motel that had the amenities I needed. I found the Super 8 on
, and booked my room for $ 38.00 per night. This motel had terrible reviews. However, since I didn’t plan on spending much time in my room, I had no need to a five-​star experience. It is important to remember that this is a budget motel, and there is no reason to expect it to be a Four Seasons.
When I arrived at Super 8, I was warmly greeted by motel staff, who definitely had my reservation. The young lady was very polite, and gave me various suggestions on what to do with my time while in Memphis. My room was adequate and the bed was comfortable. The in-​room safe was broken, and the shower was fairly disgusting and did not work properly. Luckily, the temperature controls worked just fine.
The Super 8 also has a small pool and exercise room, which I found necessary because of all the food I ate while in Memphis. The motel also offered a free continental breakfast, which consisted of waffles (and a waffle maker!), toast, pastries, juice, coffee, and cereal. The coffee was horrible, but other than that, the breakfast was acceptable. The most positive aspect of the hotel is the shuttle service to Beale Street. The hotel owners charge $ 3 each way and discontinue service at 11:00PM.
For a budget motel, I have no complaints with this Super 8.

Absolutely, dirty, infested with bed bugs and mosquitos. NEVER NEVER make the mistake of booking here. They ran out of breakfast before 9am. Rationed the plastic ware. Toaster and microwave couldn’t work at the same time they would trip and shut off. Towels were gray. Carpet was black from dirt. Cold showers as the water heater broke down. That place should be shut down by the health department. Obviously poorly kept. Asked for a roll away bed they sent up a rusty metal bed and a pillow that I wouldn’t let my dog sleep on. For the price they charge, they are a rip off. The pool had dirt at the bottom of it. The room smelt like a wet dog! I will never ever book at this place again. They shouldn’t be carrying the WYNDHAM name.
The owner should be ashamed of the place he is running.

Okay, I usually love staying in hotels. I am traveling across the country and stayed in two hotels… the rest I stayed in rest stops and with a friend. WELL let me TELL YOU! I had a better experience sleeping in my car in the rest stop somewhere in north Missouri!
The bathroom, was wiped clean (you know like as if you are having some last minute guest, so you take some windex and some paper towels and then *waahlaa* a quick clean — no one will no a damn thing) it was NOT clean. You could see the dirt on the sink and in the tube.
OH BUT IT GETS WORSE. when i was first walking in, i was walking by a room to get to mine and the people next to me (ajoined room) were BUTT NAKED and getting it on, didn’t even have the courtesy to close the shades. later when i was coming back from my car they were done with their act… yes DONE. the lady was a hooker. NIIICE… NICE.
so the room cost me $ 64, the bed was gross, i slept on top of it. they had a free breakfast… yah i didnt stay for that…

Turn around! Do not enter. This is below a 1 star. The rundown buildings around it are probably more hospitable and comfortable than this place. The service is sub par and there is a reason there is a no discount policy. It’s a trap. The only reason there was no bug problems is because we had enough cobwebs in the room to trap them in. The carpet was filled with who knows what stains, when asking for towels I waited 40 minutes then went down stairs and waited 3 minutes for the front desk person to get off their personal cell call. I also don’t know if any of them know English. Just don’t go there. Dirty rooms, dirty bathrooms, dirty building, dirty pool, run down everything. I guess they had waffles but it was hardly appetizing because of the dust covered table, counter, and plates. This motel is for one night stands, and it smells like smoke, urine, and sadness.

Moving from Houston to DC usually can be done in 24 straight hours, but we wanted to take in some sights before we got there. Naturally, I wanted to go the southern route, stop in New Orleans for a bit, then head in a northerly direction. My wife, recognizing my taste for alcoholic beverages and subsequent behavior thereafter, decided to have us drive to Memphis instead.
Now, on a budget, choices are sort of limited if you want to stay multiple nights and don’t want to have your wallet feel like it was somebody’s prison b! tch. Plus, we had cats, so we needed something feline friendly.
This hotel is right on the banks of the Mississippi, across a very long bridge from Arkansas. It’s in the middle if nowhere but oddly close within driving distance to downtown. Not particularly foot leather express worthy, so huffing it around the immediate area on foot isn’t advised.
They stuck us up on the fifth floor in a dank room, very dark inside. Yeah, it wasn’t particularly nice inside, bit it wasn’t hideous however. The bed was comfy, and the tv was an old school crt model.
In back of the hotel faced an old abandoned naval hospital (urban exploring, anyone?), and the Mississippi at sunset or sunrise was dopalicious.
The parking lot is ultra tiny. Therefore, the idea is to not move your car if you can avoid it. To help us do this, the new owners offer a shuttle (both ways, you just call them when you want to be picked up) to both Beale Street ($ 3 a person) and Graceland ($ 15 a person) whenever you want to go. They do this until 11pm, so if you intend to get yer drinking on like I probably would have in New Orleans had my wife not been wise to my plans, you should bring some cab fares.
It didn’t smell like cigarettes to us, and for the most part, it was clean. The shower worked. For all intents and purposes, if you’re in Memphis and you plan on spending your trip in a hotel the entire time, you’re doing something wrong. However if you are in Memphis on a budget, this place is worth it.

Horrible horrible horrible. Stayed here 6 years ago and it was ok but I’m pretty sure that was the last time my room was cleaned. Mold everywhere, stains everywhere oh yes and HUGE bed bugs!!! Checked out after 5 minutes! Worst place I have ever been!

If I could choose no stars at all for this hotel, I would.
This hotel was disgusting. There was no parking available. Our non-​smoking room smelled as if it was scrubbed down with the remnants of an ashtray. Then to top it off, there was an inch long bug on the pillow where I was suppose to sleep. You must live on the street if you even think this hotel is acceptable to sleep in, let alone stand in.
We were checked out within minutes.

you pay for what you get

This hotel was another place that we stayed during a Beale Street Music Festival weekend. And for hotels in the Memphis during the music fest, it wasn’t all that pricey. And it was a lot cleaner than some of the places that I have stayed.
This place is a little awkward to get in to, and a little more awkward to walk to and from. Driving pretty much means leaving Metal Museum DR and getting on I-​40, which sometimes isn’t what you want to do. Walking, on the other hand, involves having to get up on the railroad tracks and following them for a quarter mile or so. We managed it after some drinking but it is something that you want to be a little careful while attempting.
Cabs are not TOO difficult to get to come pick you up, but we did have some trouble trying to explain where the motel was when coming back. For us, it was easier just to walk in order to avoid that hassle.
The neighborhood doesn’t look all that great, but the staff at the hotel was friendly and it seemed pretty safe. I think the staff does a pretty good job keeping tabs on the goings on at the place. When we were hauling ice and a keg into the room, a manager came and checked us out and talked to us for a few minutes (although he seemed more interested in acquiring our room number and an invitation for a beer than harassing us). The staff was even accommodating when we had to have a friend pick up a room key at the desk, as he was arriving from the airport when the rest of us were going to be at one of the shows and none of us wanted to leave to let him in.
All in all, if you aren’t going to spend a whole lot of time in your room and be out exploring the city, (or partying it up at the music fest if you are so lucky to be there the first weekend in May) then this place is pretty good. You could do a lot worse.
