The Booksellers at Laurelwood

Love this bookstore, but it needs to update its website more often — website said they would resume buying used books the first week in Jan. so I took a sack in yesterday, just to be told that it actually would be the *second* week in Jan before they resumed that operation. No «I’m sorry you made the drive for nothing,» either.

Not many bookstores left in the city so I take what I can get. This used to be Davis Kidd, but has since been changed to Booksellers. Nothing changed with the name though.
Actually, they added a used book section that is pretty good. I’m obsessed with used books, its more of a game to me. They buy books from you at a certain price and restock them for a major discount. Not a bad idea, but I don’t part with any of my books lol
The only issue I have with this store is the climate! Its always so freaking hot in there, OMG what the hell is wrong with a little AC!
They have a decent selection, however the African American Lit/​fiction is a little disappointing. I typically always find something that interests me.
Don’t forget to check out their bistro, great food.

The Booksellers at Laurelwood has a great atmosphere! The selection is also quite diverse. This place isn’t just books, it has books and gifts. Cute little things that you don’t need, but do want artfully line the shelves and display cases. I called for a title, and the employee immediately went and retrieved it from the shelf and placed it at Information. I came and paid for the book less than 10 minutes later. The staff here seems to be quite conscientious and is always eager to help. They also have a café, but I’ve never eaten there. The Booksellers at Laurelwood frequently hosts authors to discuss their books and sign them. It is really cool to shake your authors hand and tell him/​her how much you enjoy their work. Support your local bookseller and buy a book or two TODAY!

Surprising how few bookstores pop up on a Unilocal search for the Memphis area, but other than religious book stores, and B&N, this place is about all you’ll find. When you come in it’s a mishmash of greeting cards, chachkies, and rows of books. The staff seem friendly and helpful and overall it seems like an adequate «bookstore» however the desire to linger and read is spoiled by the Bistro which apparently like many such places is able to avoid the restrictions of a full restaurant and therefore lacks proper ventilation so the whole place smells like a panini press. This may sound benign until your head is throbbing and your clothing wreaks of food you didn’t order or desire. Coffee, paninis, and sweets all good compliments to books, but improper ventilation leading to headaches, not so much. I’ll stick with B&N for now.

in love with this place. I attend the Literitini every year and browse the selection. So I just had to come back and experience it full on. Best book selection ever!!! Let me not forget the gift section throughout the store some from local artist and designers.

I stopped by the Booksellers at Laurelwood because it turned up in my search on Unilocal for used bookstores in Memphis. Frustratingly, this is not much of a used book store. It’s a very nice book store with a café and many non-​book things to peruse, as well as having a good general selection of new books. But only a small corner has a limited selection of used books. I’m not sure if that’s a Unilocal problem or a store problem, but my rating reflects my expectation of finding used books.

Laurelwood is not my neighborhood so I recently made my first visit to Booksellers to purchase a book to attend a book signing by my favorite author. I am so glad there are still a few bookstores around to host events like this. Booksellers is large and I’m sure I could spend hours browsing. I had limited time on this day and I was pleased by the set up for the signing. I went in to buy the book and asked how the signing works. When I bought the book I was given a line number and the clerk explained the process. Later, when I went back for the signing. The numbers were called in groups to have their books signed. Limited time waiting in a line. They have it down to a science.

My favourite book store in Memphis. Going here reminds me of how it used to be to shop for books, back when everyone read and before all the major chains went out of business. Okay, that made me sound really old, but it’s true.
The employees here are knowledgable, when you ask them a question about if this author’s book has come out yet or if they can recommend a book like something else, they don’t necessarily just jump on the computer to search (I mean, I could’ve looked that stuff up on Google myself, you know?). If that person doesn’t maybe read that style of books, they’ll ask another employee. It’s great, because I find recommendations from a person to be a lot more helpful than just looking online, because then you can talk to the person about the book, they can adjust their recommendation based on what you read. It’s a lot harder to do that online.
They don’t just sell books, there’s also other gifts, like candles, photo albums, things like that. They do also sell some CDs. There’s also an Orpheum box office there, in case you want to buy tickets. Another handy tip if you’re someone who prefers buying tickets in person instead of online.
Also, they have a restaurant. The food’s pretty good. I’ll leave a more detailed review at the venue itself, but I at least wanted to mention this. It’s a full restaurant, not just a coffee shop. They serve breakfast in the mornings (I think it’s until 3 pm on weekends), though I’ve only been there in the evenings.
The service at any part of the store, be it the cashiers, the restaurant, anything has always been outstanding. I really recommend skipping that other chain book store left in Memphis and going here instead.

Every time I visit Memphis, I stop by Booksellers. The book selection is terrific, and the other items — jewelry, lotions, gifts — is beautifully curated. in fact, I purchased a gorgeous viscose Spartina 449 scarf yesterday. Love the colors and the feel. If I had more time, I could have bought so many other things.
If you are looking for unique gifts, this is a great place to shop.

I don’t know who originally said it, but I recently came across this meme:
«We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t sleep with them.»
That made me giggle and I have to agree. Books are cool, but seem to be a lost art. I love getting lost in a book — the stories, the characters, beautiful descriptions of emotion and scenery…*sigh* it makes me all romantic and nostalgic for my summers where I was required to read. Now I barely have the time.
The wonderful thing about this bookstore is that it is so much more than *just* a bookstore. They have a lovely café with excellent food, stationery, candles, things for the kitchen, knickknacks, art, crafts, and most of it is local! There is no better way to spend a rainy, lazy day than this place. Plus the staff is helpful and very friendly so don’t feel bad about lingering — they want you to browse!

It’s hard to be a bookstore nowadays and even harder an independent one. I was happy to see a large space that is a gift shop, restaurant, and bookstore. The restaurant was very good had chicken piccata and blt. Both were excellent. Really liked the way the books were presented, lots of recommendations. Gift shop had lots of cute things, cards, calendars. Hope this place makes it.

This is my go-​to place in Memphis for gifts. If I’m ever in a pinch I know I can always find something unique for whoever I’m shopping for. They do free gift wrapping, so it takes all the work out of shopping for gifts.
This place is much more than a bookstore. There are a lot of neat novelties here and some local goods as well, like Apothecary Fairy.
I have yet to eat at the bistro, but I know it has to be good because people are always there whenever I go.
Love this place, and I hope it doesn’t fall victim to Amazon like so many others.

It’s still a great bookstore and the staff is excellent. They will spend all kinds of time helping you look for something. They have a new loyalty plan that seems pretty good.
Hopefully these guys will stay in business for a long time.
