This specialty toy store seriously brings to mind Santa’s workshop. Stocked with beautiful, old-fashioned toys, I can just picture Hermey struggling with the pieces of the wooden rocking horse, or concentrating on making the Jack-in-the-box work properly. Find wooden trains, collectibles, dress up clothes or ride on toys. There are toys for about every age(grown-up kids at heart too!), with favorite brands like Gund, Lamaze, Sassy and Playmobil. A great place to shop for special gifts, the Village Toymaker is a fave for kids, and a trip down memory lane for their parents.

Village Toymaker is a sublime place to make your toy purchases. I love this place because it isn’t a huge, warehouse style toy store(though I heart Toys-R-Us) instead, it has a very small town, home made toy vibe going on. They offer more of the intellectual, busy-work type toys. There is a large wall full of Legos and puzzles, lots of games offering up learning of the alphabet or numbers, and a huge selection of craft type things. You can make your own monster out of old plastic grocery bags. Who doesn’t wanna make their own monster out of plastic grocery bags?! I am 30, and have no children, and I still wanted to make my own grocery bag monster. There is also a rather large collection of Madame Alexander dolls. Basically, if you are a Madame Alexander fan, come here for your purchases. I’m not a huge porcelain-I can’t play with you cuz you are too pretty and expensive– doll person, but even I fell in love with her version of the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. He sits atop his very own red, polka-dotted, plush mushroom in a green caterpillar suit. Too cute for words. Oddly enough, you can also purchase a small Barack Obama figurine, sitting behind the White House desk for only $ 10 bucks. My husband and I went back and forth on whether we should purchase him. He would be a great addition to our Christmas Nativity. I think Obama should be at Christmas 2010’s birth of our Lord Baby Jesus. We may have to go back and rescue him. I have to believe that he, E.T., Big Bird, the California Raisin, Hulk Hogan and the other 48 invited guests would fast become friends. I spent about an hour in this place, revisiting my childhood, and wishing that I had an excuse to purchase many of the items that lived on their shelves. The prices aren’t too high, and the selection is amazing. They have a lot of unique choices– and trust me when I say these are the toy gifts you can give that kids and parents will love. Unless of course you purchase one of the bird whistles, saxophones or musical playing instruments. Then, I believe the parents of said child will kill you.
